Dear So and So....

Someone just started this thread on another forum. It's making me howl with laughter! She said, "it was really nice and theraputic, and a lot of fun. This is how it works: You write short little notes to people who may or may not see them, just to get your feelings out there and make you feel a little better." Here's my letter:

Dear Lady Driver:

Thank you for not looking behind you when you pulled onto the busy street right in front of my bike this morning. I have a new bike and wanted to test the breaking action. Thanks to you, I am assured the brakes work well as I did not end up as a mural on the back of your ever-so-trendy car. I also appreciate the full stop you came to when you realized that I was behind you. I got to test how quickly I could come out of my cleats, too! Did that pretty quickly and managed to stay up right. Cool! And last but not least, bless you for wanting to make sure everyone gets their share of testing today by pulling out directly infront of the little Nissan that was flying down the road. They, too, managed to stop in time.

Oooo, I had one of those drivers before, only she actually hit me and sent my bike to the shop for some major work. (Luckily, I required no major work!) I so often seem to have some random idiot cross briefly into my life and do something completely, well, idiotic but today has been an ok day! Glad you made it fine, and now know that your brakes work well, and you can get out of those clips!! Our pastor said that he had gotten this cool new bike with the clips, couldn't wait to take off down the road so he didn't bother learning the getting in and out of them part. He came to a stop sign at a fairly busy intersection and didn't know what to do so he had to just fall over. He is very good at teaching us to laugh at ourselves :D

Dear my 7-y.o. DD's Brownie troop leader. Thank you so much for all of your involvement with this little girls' girl scout troop for the 3rd year in a row. I really do appreciate all of the time you spend.

More than that though, I really appreciate the $95.00 fee you are now charging us for the same 3rd year in a row. The fact that that fee does NOT include their snacks at meetings (which we all have to provide), does NOT their field trip expenses, does NOT include the fuel surcharge for gasoline (new this year -- guess that's due to high gas prices huh?) to those field trips just makes me look at creative accounting in a whole new way. And WOW -- to add to it the fact that their troop made $500 in cookie sales last year has taken my head scratching to a whole new level. Thank you for allowing me the chance to examine this kind of issue in a way I never have before.   Your committment rocks!

ETA: THANKS for starting this thread Christine -- it is VERY helpful!

Yikes! I'm glad your ok. I am having a lot of issues lately with people about to turn into me without looking. But atleast I was in my car. I've heard its pretty dangerous to ride bikes with drivers. I see many around here though I'm always super careful when I see them.

Dear Random Mother

Dear Random mother on the street,

Thank you for noticing and pointing out VERY LOUDLY that both of my young boys wear very thick glasses. Without your help I never would have known that they are legally blind.:eek:They thank you for bringing it to EVERYONE else's attention as well. Because you know they are blind NOT DEAF!!!
Thank you also for asking all those innocent questions about how I do it and am I upset about their condition and how do they cope. I NEVER tire of repeating myself a thousand times.
Thank you for asking "How much do those glasses weigh"???
Just because I got to ask you, "How much do you weigh idiot"!!!!!!!:eek:

And for your information you rude, obnoxious, nosy, bitch on the street they have IQ's over 140. Isn't that the size of your left leg?????
Have a nice day :rolleyes::rolleyes:

Yeah, I've done that! I was on the WO&D trail in Maryland with my DD15 (well, she was 4 then) on a trail-a-bike on the back. Came up to a rest stop - of course I had a huge audience - and couldn't unclip. I had enough time to tell DD to get off the bike and move away - she did - and over I went in very sssllllloooooowwwww motion, trying to unclip all the way. Finally managed to get my foot out when my knee hit the ground! :p

I see many around here though I'm always super careful when I see them.

THANK YOU!!!! We really appreciate careful drivers!!

Keep 'em coming, Ladies!!

Lorrie - That is outrageous for Brownie fees! I never paid that much and I live in California where EVEYTHING is more expensive!

Ellie's Mom - I never ceased to be amazed at how blatantly ignorant people can be.

Dear Teacher of my 3rd Grader,
I really appreciate all of the homework you send home everyday. We really enjoy spending 3 hours a night working on Math, spelling, reading, hand writing, etc. I do sometimes wonder what you do in class all day since we have all of this extra work? I was also happy to see that the other parents feel the same way as me since they asked you about all of this homework on parents night last week. I look forward to seeing how much homework we have as the year progresses.

And for your information you rude, obnoxious, nosy, bitch on the street they have IQ's over 140. Isn't that the size of your left leg?????

 :D !!!!!!!!!!!

I wish I could contribute, but I'm not annoyed enough right now. I'll be sure to find this thread when the opportunity presents itself.

LaDonna - Oh I HEAR you on the homework! What 3rd grader (or 4th or 5th grader for that matter) has the attention span to sit and do homework all night long? And what parent has the ability to spend 3 hours a night helping? I was so glad when my kids hit middle school and the amount of homework went DOWN! Amazing.

 :D !!!!!!!!!!!

I wish I could contribute, but I'm not annoyed enough right now. I'll be sure to find this thread when the opportunity presents itself.

It doesn't have to be bad - it can be good, thoughtful, silly - whatever... Such as

Dear Cathe!

Thank you so much for putting out workouts I actually want to do and that challenge me! Your smiling face every morning helps put me in a much better frame of mind and I can face the day a little easier!

Christine -- I too am soooo glad you are ok. What a frightening experience for you. Cool that you get to give proper appreciation here huh?;)

That is why we quit Brownies...well, that in addition to the fact that on the first day of the second year, they were given glue guns randomly placed on the table with lots of little elbows and no supervision, and the leader had no control over the girls so all they did was scream and yell, and scatterbrained moron "guiding" my child just wasn't for me.

This is a great idea for a thread - we could keep it alive for an eternity!

Oh, I need this!

Dear concerned *friend*,

Thank you for asking what I will be doing with all of my *free* time when my children are in school. I really appreciate you worrying that I will be bored and feel lazy and need to get a *real* job. I am happy that going back to work was a good choice for your family. My family is my #1 priority and I like being a TBB coach and being able to work from home. My hubby is very supportive and my kids are well adjusted. I am sorry if that bothers you.

Signed,
A Mom who was sad to put her kids on the bus this morning!

Christine ~ Sorry about the bike incident!!! I'm glad that you are ok!!

L_Sass ~ My dd's are in GS/ Brownies and their dues are $10 a month. I guess that evens out to about $90 for the school year, but at least we don't have to pay it all at once! And that does cover field trips (except for maybe a $2-$5 here or there).

We just joined brownies and it is only $10 for the year. I am assuming that I will have to send snacks and pay for field trips. Wow!! I can't believe the difference!!

Ok, I have all of you beat on this one. This actually just happened to me this afternoon.

Dear IRS,

Thank you so much for the money I am about to owe you from my taxes in 2006. I'm glad to know that you spend all your time picking on a family of 5 when there are many people in the world who never pays taxes or illegaly try to get out of doing so by lying. I'm glad to know that every bit of my stimilus ( or lack there of) check will go right back to you pieces of crap. I'm so gald that it took over two years to find the error and somehow a $200 error has now turned into a $1800 dollar in fines and intrest. Thank you so much for taking my families hard earned money and putting it into the nearest stadium and dowtown high rise not to mention a salary increase for those who found my error. Mind you the first error I have ever made in 19 years.. You are surely worth every bit of the money I am paying for your salary for catching an honest mislake.

Karen

Ok, Now I feel better. I actully just got this from the IRS this afternoon. I hurried up and got my copy of my taxes from 2006 and on my copy I transposed a 0 and a 2. So now what was a 200 mistake has turned into a $1835 fine and error for the two years it went unnoticed. I'm so ticked off not that they found the error but the timing of it. A year eighteen months even to spot the error. Give me a break. So now I owe all this money by the 24th of Sept or they will begin to add a 6% intrest per day to the total.

Good gravy, Karen - that is just horrible. Don't they have some sort of something where you can pay the money owed if you appeal? Does that make sense? I don't know squat about the IRS but it seems that if you make an offer to at least pay it, they would rather have that. I would research online. Good luck. Look up penalty abatement with the IRS, and with that, settling with an amount. I think you can at least ease the amount owed - I wouldn't rush and pay immediately before checking into this.

fun thread! here's my vent...

Dear State legislators,

Thank you so much for the slashing budget cuts in education. I especially love the new regulations that forbid a single dime go toward providing a measly bottle of water or any other such refreshments for faculty meetings. What a stand you took to save taxpayers money by insisting that the state not feed us. Yet, I wonder if you fine, upstanding lawmakers have given up your catered caucus room luncheons and are brown-bagging it now. Somehow I doubt it.

These cuts were so far-reaching that when ordering basic supplies for the school year, we were severely limited in the types of items we could order.

How about if every teacher in the state slashes OUR budgets, too? I’m referring to the personal out-of-pocket funds that we give back year after year to not only enhance the students’ learning experience but to provide some of the most basic needs and comforts. For example, when we ran out of tissues this spring and the administrators shrugged their shoulders, what did my fellow teachers do? Of course, we bought tissues with our own money so the kids wouldn’t have to sit there with dripping noses. We'll do it because it’s the right thing to do. Those in power know it, and they take advantage.

Though I’m all about districts spending public money wisely, the state should go after the districts where financial mismanagement is an issue; don't punish the whole class.

Oh my goodness, all of these posts are making my blood boil! How awful! Poor Karen! I'm so sorry that the IRS is completely full of jackasses. And Cathy! I'm so sorry you have to struggle like that as a teacher--but THANK YOU for doing what you do!

Thanks, Allison! :) I won't say it's a struggle because I do absolutely love what I do, but it *is* frustrating sometimes to be the "little guy" that gets squashed. Appreciate the kind words!!

Karen - I could have written your thank you letter!!! Back in '99 I was hospitalized for the better part of the year. In 2000, my husband called the IRS a NUMBER of times, asking if we could claim the $45,000 hospital bill as a medical expense. We received no answer. So my husband claimed it. 22 months - that's right, nearly two years! - the IRS sent us a response telling us, no, we couldn't claim the expense. Well, it is now 2008 and we STILL haven't resovled the issue. They claim we owe close to $2,000 in penalties, back fees, and interest. Oh, and the best part is this - when my husband asked the IRS worker (after holding for 90 min. and being transfered 4 times) what the IRS's penalty rate was, the worker said, "Sir, we have absolutely no way of knowing that."

Right.
