Damage Control March 2018

I did work this weekend and for some reason can't seem to sleep in at all. I'm averaging 7 hours and would like 8. Maybe it's the extra job. I got 6 workouts in last week: 2 walks, 2 Total Body weights (did FT TB Sat.), 1 pool, and 1 low impact at home (Afterburn). My hip feels good and my weight is stable. I miss higher impact step and kickbox, but don't know if it's worth it anymore. Work was tough-never enough people to work. I'm starting to see a lot of my classmates' parents coming in with issues. Guess the wheel is turning.

You need to rest! I'm glad your DH is waiting on you. Did you get crutches to use? Let me know how your appt. goes today. I've got my annual physical today. He will try to talk me into a colonoscopy and I'll probably have to see the gyno again after last year's issues. My mom is walking with a cane and still in limbo to see if her leg gets better. I don't know if it's her knee, ligaments, or what.

Off to get started on my list of stuff to do on my day off!

Beth

I'm up early today. I didn't sleep very well last night and it's back to work today. I did get online and go through all the emails last night and to see what my schedule looked like this week. I have a post surgery boot and shoe. I've just been going barefoot, with my foot wrapped in the house. The shoe/boot are heavy and put pressure on my incision which makes it hurt. I'm hopeful she'll take off a lot of the extra padding and I can get a shoe on. I should find out when the stitches come out today too. I'm still elevating and icing and need to keep that up through the end of this week. My eating has been horrible. I can't complain too much as he has taken great care of me. We just eat differently is all. I've had more white carbs in the past in the past 5 days than I've had in the last year. I haven't weighed myself or tracked on WW. I'm starting back with tracking on WW today. I'm in charge of my own food now so that will help. I've already decided when I can workout again, I will start with GS series. I know I can do chest/triceps sans push-ups without issue. It's the standing exercises I've been told not to do until I can stand with equal weight on my feet. You shouldn't weight train with imbalances like that.

You've had a busy week! Good job keeping up with your w/o's, work, and your second job too.

My appt. went well. She unbandaged and x-rayed. Everything is looking good. My foot is bruised and swollen which is to be expected. I get the stitches out next Friday, March 30th. That's a long time to keep dry. She said I don't have any restrictions and can start trying to get my toe moving. She said it will probably always be a bit stiff due to all the surgeries. But I should get better range of motion than I had before. I do need to wear my post op shoe as my foot is still too swollen and bandaged for a regular shoe. I'm also supposed to continue to elevate and ice to aid in healing.

Hey, good news about your ankle! It sounds like after the swelling is down you'll be able to do a lot more. I hope your work schedule is not too bad the rest of this week. You still need to rest.

Yesterday I did Low Impact Challenge-it's a step dvd in the Low Impact series. I did the first 3 sections and the leg blast. My brain had had enough of new step combos by then. I watched section 4 and it's probably going to take me a while to learn it. I also walked 22 minutes so had a good Fitbit day. Today I decided to do Drill Max premix of Total Body. It's 52 minutes. I'm also going to do some cooking/prepping for the rest of the week. My breakfast lately has been sauteed mixed greens with one egg with one piece of sprouted wheat bread toast. I like it! I'm trying to get more veggies without a lot of chopping in the morning and buying a bag has been great.

Not much going on today. I did all the laundry yesterday and it took forever. I can't carry the laundry basket, so I threw the clothes down 2 flights of stairs on top of taking me forever to get up and down the stairs. It was long day for sure. But it's all done now. I need to get Jerod to run to the store for me. If I send DH, he will buy more crap that we don't need. He is a serious junk food addict. Oh I braved up today and weighed myself. It's not as bad as I was expecting, but not good either. I'm back on track with my eating and getting in my gallon of water each day. I started back with the water yesterday and was a bit short. I should be able to get it all in today though. Still elevating and icing as prescribed. I would love to go out, but I can't walk very well or for too long. I'm sick of sitting in this house. My knee is sore from the weight of the post op boot. I wore it most of the day yesterday since I was on my feet a lot more. I'm not wearing it today though. Still working on flexing my toe. It's still pretty painful but the dr. said I need to work it a bit every day. Just following her instructions. My balance is getting better as I can put more weight on my foot. I may try to shower tomorrow-exciting I know. Baths just aren't my thing.

Oh yes, the dancy w/o. I think I did it a few times back in the day. It was too much thinking and not enough sweating for me if I recall :) Once learned though, you will get a lot out of it. Great job getting in more veggies. I noticed that Easter is on April 1st. Starting Whole 30 on the 2nd. I pulled the book out and am reviewing it and checking out some recipes. I love veggies and eggs for breakfast! I usually steam them and add to my scrambled eggs or omelette.

My foot was swollen last night I had to take the wrapping off. I didn't do much yesterday but I did start working my toe a lot. I've iced and elevated today and it is feeling better. I set my equipment up for GS C&T and plan on doing that tomorrow morning. My eating is bad and I'm not getting in all my water. It's tough to get in a gallon of water when I'm not working out. Also, my morning workouts really help set the tone for the day too.

What are you up to?

Hello!

I'm just doing my latest routine-so did Drill Max Total Body on Tuesday and Pool on Wednesday. I added in 100 walking lunges between the first 4 round of Drill Max and my legs are still feeling it! I might try to get a walk in today before work. I just discovered I can log food into the Fit Bit so that is nice! I'm out of greens so have been having 2% Greek yogurt with banana, pineapple, and granola in the mornings.

My cholesterol is down this year from 242 to 215! DH has had to go on medication for his. I was ready to go on since my Dad's stroke, but am fortunate that my number went down. My home job has asked me to go to the doctor's appt. they have next month so I'll be doing that. I really enjoy keeping someone in their own home. Did you read about Ice 2? I am so excited!

Sounds like you're healing up well. How did GS CT go today?

Beth

I did GS C&T this morning, no pushups or dips. I used 30's and 25's for all the chest work. At my strongest I was using 35's and 30's. My forearms were on fire from just lifting and holding the weights. It was nice to work my muscles and feel the burn. I'm going to try some ab work later today. I ate way too much peanut butter and chocolate yesterday and it definitely showed on the scale today. I eat when I'm stressed and/ or bored. Self sabotage at it's finest. Only one more week of the damn post op boot. I get my stitches out next Friday afternoon. I'm hoping I can get a regular shoe on then, even if I have to take out the laces. My foot has been so sore, not sure if that's the right term. All those little nerves are waking up and it just feels very sensitive.

I love Drill Max, great job!! Your breakfasts sound really yummy, almost like dessert! I always used myfitnesspal to log my food. I don't like that fitbit doesn't work both ways. It doesn't feed it's food data to other programs. Interestingly enough, it does send my fitbit activity to the weight watchers app. That is great news about your cholesterol! You know that all comes down to the healthy food choices you've been making. I did read about ice 2, we'll see. I have so many w/o's and really enjoy BR. I saw so much more progress with those types of workouts. Having said that, I think another round of STS is in my future. I'm thinking towards the end of summer.

My son is driving home today. I talked to him a couple hours ago and he was just leaving Vegas. If he comes straight through he should be here between 9-10pm weather and traffic permitting. I'm so sad for them.
I started to do a BR ab workout, but it started of with planks and I can't do any of that yet. I did GS BSB instead. My abs are so weak. This is a great series for me to do. I did few dumbbell squats and kettlebell swings too. I did skip a few of the prone exercises as I don't want to slam my unprotected toe/foot into the ground.

What are you up to?

Yesterday I walked outside with the vest on for almost an hour. It was cold, but I walked fast and it felt good to be outdoors. My right hip flexor is a little sore today so I'll have to do additional stretching for it. Today's plan is to do the pool this morning and then go test drive some vehicles. DH is looking at Ford Edge 6 cyl. We need to replace two of our very old cars and DS2 will use one this summer at the internship. I abhor car shopping. I would rather be meal prepping or reading or exercising!

Did your DS1 make it home safe and sound? I hope so. Sorry he's in this awful transition. It's hard being a parent.

I can't believe you could do squats with your foot?! Good job. I've been thinking about doing a four day rotation: one walk, one pool, one upper and one lower body weights, then a rest day. I think I'll start this in April. The total body two times a week need to be shaken up, I think. We doing a whole30 in April (starts the 2nd)?! Doesn't it seem like March has lasted forever?!

What are your weekend plans?

Beth

Well DS is home, but he got stuck in Vail about 2 hours away due to the highway being closed. He wanted to wait it out and see if the highway opened back up, but David said to just book him a hotel room. So glad we did that. Later I saw that they opened up shelters for the folks that were stranded due to the road closure. He's seems to be doing okay emotionally. He went to a friends house last night. Oh and he took me to the grocery store yesterday. It was nice to get out of the house! Today I might try my own circuit of 50/10. I can do dumbbell squats, kettle bell swings, abs and upper body exercises. I have to be in my socks which isn't ideal, but that's the only way my feet can be level. My weight has breached a number I never wanted to see again. My eating has not been good as of late. It was much better yesterday though. It doesn't help that we had Chinese food Friday night either, with all the salt and oil etc. I'm struggling to get in my water too. It's really hard to drink a gallon of water when I don't exercise. I get in 32 ounces of water with my morning workouts and that's a great start. I'm missing that.

I hope you like the Ford Edge. They are super nice. It's always nice to shake up your routine and keep your body guessing. I'm hoping I can manage my portions during whole 30. I haven't meal prepped in a long time, but think it would help me with portion control and mindless eating. I used to meal prep on Sundays for my breakfasts and lunches for M-Th and it worked great. I haven't done that since working from home.

Today I did Ice Metabolic Total Body and Abs. My right hip joint has been hurting so I'm stretching a lot. Honestly I just want to go to bed. I have to wait until I do my home job between 9 and 10. I haven't been sleeping very well. My latest goal is to have a salad every day. If I do that and whole30 and pack snacks for work I think I'll be ok!

Glad DS1 made it home. You must be having really snowy weather. It's supposed to be 60 here on Thursday and DH is talking bike ride! We'll see. Getting ready to have an Easter Brunch here next Sunday. My brother and his fiance broke up recently-they had been engaged for about 6 years. So it's not just your son...apparently. My brother, Dan's brother, my parents, and DS1 will be here. I'm hoping to play a game, too.

Who knows when we'll get the new car. Now DH is trying to find the best deal and that will take a while! At least we know we like that car.

I actually did a BR w/o this morning. It was kettle bells and bands. There were some push up variations that I couldn't do so I did abs or kettle bell snatches or some other alternative. I'm not sure what I will do tomorrow. Oh, I did 30 minutes of beginner yoga last night too. Friday cannot come soon enough. I'm ready to have the stitches out and hopefully put on a tennis shoe. Our weather down here has been beautiful-sunny and 50-60 degrees. In the mountains is another story. Although we are supposed to get some snow today through tomorrow. The high temps are still in the 40's to 50's so it will probably just melt. We need it though. I had DS1 mail all 3 girls' there Easter stuff. I asked him if I should send Natalia's stuff or not. He said yes. Thankfully we always go to my MIL's for Easter Dinner. MIL does the ham and the rest of us bring everything else. It works great.

Wow, a bike ride sounds nice. Keep up with your stretching and your PT exercises. Not sleeping is the worst. I used to eat a salad everyday and would throw chicken, steak, or tuna on it for a protein boost. I used a broker at my credit union to buy my car. Do you have one of those? That way they do all the work. Unless your DH likes that kind of stuff. What are you making for Easter Brunch?

Since I have to work on Easter we decided to do brunch. I'm going to make a veggie frittata in a cast iron skillet, a sour cream coffee cake, a savoy cabbage salad, chocolate chip waffles, and chicken sausages. My mom is bringing ambrose salad and my brother in law supplied some champagne. It's pretty simple and just a way for all of us to get together without my mom having to do anything.

I walked an hour yesterday with the weight vest on. Today all my muscles are sore. I might try a short kickbox before work later or just take a rest day. I slept until almost 9:30 this morning, so am finally catching up!

You are having wonderful weather! Forecast here now is for rain and warmer temps. I'm not riding in the rain. We'll see how it is Thursday.

Beth

Well we had snow last night but it's all melted. We are supposed to have another bout of snow tonight but it won't last long. It's sunny and 50's today. This morning I did another BR Kettlebell workout. It was a variety of swings, abs, snatches etc. It did have one set of planks and I just did something else. I seem to be healing fine and am looking forward to the PT exercised to help get the flexion back in my joint.

Your brunch menu sounds delicious! I'm so looking forward to getting out and walking too. I've only been managing about 3000 steps per day since my surgery. Hoorah for sleep!!

I weighed again this morning and it's just getting uglier. My eating needs a complete overhaul. I ordered a new scale, a body composition scale. It's called the Nokia Body Cardio. I made salmon and roasted brussel sprouts for dinner last night and it was delicious. I definitely have veggie belly right now. I'm just so out of whack with my normal routine. I'm trying to incorporate more veggies into my diet and lessen the amount of fruit. DS1 went for a 4 mile walk yesterday and I can't wait until I can join him. It is nice that I found some workouts I can do that seems to be helping my outlook.

What are you up to?

Wed. we put together a new bench/shoe holder for the foyer. It took a little over an hour and turned out ok! We replaced the metal rack that's been there for decades. After that I went to the pool and worked out there until it was time to go to work. Today I'm off and need to shop for the brunch and get some wash done. I'm in the mood for PUB today and PLB tomorrow. Liverpool plays Sat. at 7:30 AM so that will probably end up being my rest day (since I work all weekend). Sunday-maybe pool. The weather today is not conducive to a bike ride. Darn it!

As much as you work out and eat protein and veggies, I think you'll find a lot of muscle on the new scale. I have the fit bit scale and it always weighs me more than my bathroom scale. It gives the fat/lean percentages as well and it's nice to see if that changes.

Hope you get the green light to wear shoes and get walking more tomorrow!

Beth

This morning I my first Fit Split workout! Of course I did modify a ton. I did the mixed impact cardio. I did squat jumps for any exercises I couldn't do like split jumps and burpees. It was only 25 minutes but it was better than nothing. DS1 is going to take my to my WW meeting tomorrow. I'm just going to weigh in and get back on track. Right now I have artichokes, zucchini, baby bell peppers and chicken in the oven. I'm trying to get my eating back on track. My new scale should arrive tomorrow. I carry a lot of body fat and I've gained 5 or 6 pounds since my surgery. I'm looking forward to getting back to my workouts. I will still have to modify for quite a while I think. Which means I really need to focus on my food choices. I need to get back to my cleaning/organizing each week.

Nice job on the bench! PUB/PLB are great, the bicep section is tough! Enjoy the game Saturday.

Time to face the music. My son is taking me to WW to weigh in this morning. I already know it's ugly, but it will put me on the path to a better week. Also, it's Friday and I get my stitches out today. My appt isn't until 4pm but I'm so ready for it.

Hope you have a great day!
