So I did Crossfire for the first time today. As excited as I was, I was surprised to find that I was having something like performance anxiety. I put in the DVD, but waited several minutes before I hit play. Then I paused after the warm up. I just wasn't sure I could do it and was having a crisis of confidence. I've waited months for these new workouts and there I was: choking! I guess the clips had scared me more than I realized. I've done Tabata and HiiT workouts before, even used the blue band (green one snapped a while back), so what was the problem?
Well, I took a deep breath, put my game face on (knew that's what Cathe would tell me to do), hit play and off I went. Oh, it's hard, very hard, but Crossfire has what I look for most in a workout: something that pushes me past my current level, that I know will never feel easy, and that's so excellent I know I'll still be doing years from now. I made several mental notes about what I loved in particular, including specific moves, but they're gone. I know many of you can relate to that phenomenon. Should have written it down. Oh well the following is my overall impression.
Love, love, love it! Cathe pushes you to your limit, then gives you just enough of a breather that you can do the next thing. To me she's really masterful in her pacing, not just in Crossfire, but in all her workouts, but I sincerely appreciated this skill today! It was a stroke of genius to put each full Tabata drill amongst other cardio work, since Tabata drill after Tabata drill, even with a full minute rest every 4 minutes, can feel like torture. Loved both the firewater and plyo Tabata, although I loved the other cardio portions, too.
Another thing I love about Crossfire is the tremendous variety in moves. There's very little repetition, so time just flies by and although you're getting tired, different muscle groups are used at different times so you get somewhat of a rest before having to call on those muscles again. This is such an excellently constructed workout! Oh, and the music was great! It's just a fun, sweaty mess of a workout.
I absolutely can't wait to do it again, since it always takes me one or two times before I hit my stride and can go all out.
Thank you Cathe. You really are unparalleled!
I'm so excited (and not scared) to try To The Max. .
