Crazy Sexy Cool Ontarians! It's March 9th - let's get moving!

morningstar

Cathlete
Thread title notwithstanding, I am so exhausted today, probably because of the time change (and because I ate too much yesterday) that I am only going to do two Cardio Coach walks today with weights - no circuit training like I'd planned.

I hope you all are doing well, being healthy, happy and active. I made some major changes to my workout plans last week, and am looking forward to implementing them this week and into the future (see last check-in thread and my blog, if you're interested).

Have a kickass week, everyone!

Happy Monday Everyone,
Yesterday i had a very good yoga practice. I think it was because i did not eat very much after napping through most of the afternoon. I was tired from getting home late from my staff party and then getting up early to teach yoga the next morning with the time change. In any case i felt very light and flexible and really enjoyed my practice yesterday.

Tonight's workout: i just finished doing Muscle Endurance. I really like all the leg presses in this one. That was one thing missing from Jari Love's Ripped workouts.

Morningstar: I hope you are feeling better. I admire your dedication in continuing to workout while getting over shingles.

I hope everyone else had a great weekend.

Elle

Hey guys,

Yesterday I was exhausted, so just did two 40 minute Cardio Coach HIIT walks with upper body weighted exercises, and then took 15 minutes at the office and did non-weighted squats, plies, lunges, calf raises, pushups off the desk (way more challenging than I thought they'd be!) etc. Actually worked up a little sweat. So, no official workout yesterday, but definitely moved my butt - and my glutes are feeling it today! Normally I do weighted squats about about 100lbs (weighted vest and barbell) so I was surprised how effective doing 50-75 quickly without weight can be, especially when you squeeeeeeeze that glute!

I am still very tired today. A bad incident in the middle of the night left me awake most of the rest of the night. I will do another Cardio Coach walk today, and a regular walk tonight, and then Jillian Michael's Banish Fat Boost Metabolism for the first time. I'll let you know how it goes and if I like it. I will have to modify the jumping moves, I know, but that's cool.

Elle, I want to hear more about your Silver jeans. I have never found a pair of jeans that I found comfortable, and I want to know where I can get a pair of your Silvers!

Hi, Onties!

Morningstar, I hope you get a good night's sleep tonight. There's nothing worse than feeling exhausted and trying to push your way through your day. I admire you for keeping up some semblance of your workouts!

Elle, your yoga practice sounds great. I feel tight and stiff all over from STS Disc 10 on Sunday, then Spinning yesterday, and not finding more than 5 minutes to stretch either day! I didn't have time to work out today but need to try to stretch out a bit before I go to bed.

Tomorrow will be Spinning in the a.m. and STS Disc 11 in the p.m. I need to fit in more yoga! Just a few years ago I was doing yoga 3-4 times per week. Now it's once a week if I'm lucky, and I'm really feeling it. Next week is my first STS rest week, so I'm intending to do more yoga.

Stebby

Okay, so I did Jillian Michael's Banish Fat Boost Metabolism (BFBM) this morning instead of last night (last night was many hours of sports bra and running shoe shopping -at least I sprinted a lot at the store!)

Here's my review:

Some of the moves can be effectively modified to low impact, but she doesn't show you how to do that, so you have to figure it out yourself. Doing it low impact, it is a light cardio workout. The whole thing is plyometric, so if you do it as she intended, I'm sure it would be a much more intense workout. Moves are easy, nothing complicated, and there is no choreography to learn. No equipment needed other than a mat. I think her 30 day shred workout, using light weights, is actually a more intense cardio workout.

One thing that kind of bugs me -she keeps talking about how her workouts aren't fun. A little demotivating, as I enjoy working out - I guess she doesn't!

I would use it again, but not when I want a real challenge.

Thanks for the review morningstar. I have been looking at this DVD. I don't own any of Jillian Micheals workouts. I have heard good things about this one. Did you use a HRM to calculate your calorie burn? Just curious. Would this DVD be considered a cardio workout or a weight workout? I think a med cardio considering what your wrote in your review. BTW, I don't have any DVD player advice for you. I wish I could help. LEt me know what you eventually purchase.

Stebby: I too need to do more yoga. I really like it in a class but HATE doing it on my own. I should join a class. Congrats on being on disc 11 :)

Keep up the good work everyone. This week has been really hard for me. I am stress eating so many calories so I probally have gained weight this week.
GRRRRRR, I have no one to blame but myself.
Today is a new day... wishe me luck at my work lunch party :)

Mary

Hi HDAWG,

This is definitely a cardio workout, not a weight training DVD. I have a HRM, but didn't use it. Without modification, I would say that this was probably a medium cardio workout. With mods to make it low impact, it was a light cardio workout. And whatever you do, don't stress about the stress eating - it just compounds itself!

Okay guys, here's the situation:

You know I haven't been sleeping well. Well, yesterday I had a bad incident at work, followed by an informal job interview over drinks, then a very bad situation at home last night. So, after very little sleep over the past week or so, last night I got about 3 hours. I was the walking dead this morning, and I just couldn't get my ass to work. Just couldn't. So I called in sick, even though that makes me feel really bad emotionally - the guilt factor is very strong in me when it comes to work ethic. I tried to sleep for all of today, and couldn't. So I had a decision to make - do I work out, knowing that my body is already stressed and my immune system has taken a beating lately? Or do I rest up and feel like a lazy slab of humanity? I decided to just try to work out, and if I just couldn't do it, well, I just couldn't do it. So I gave Jillian Michaels' No More Trouble Zones a go. This was my first time doing this one, and here's my review. Please take into account my current state when considering the review.

This is a circuit workout again, a bit over 50 minutes, including the warm up and cool down (she does the same warm up and cool down for all of her workouts, by the way - a bit boring but easy to modify to make it more interesting). She does not do any cardio mixed in with the workout, which disappointed me. However, most of her exercises are full body and there are some that I've never done before and quite enjoyed. I used extremely light weights, just because today I couldn't handle any more. I actually broke out my threes, which I haven't used in a very long time for anything except propping up my toes during deadlifts sometimes. It makes you sweat a lot, and I think (and hope) that there was probably a cardiovascular factor happening, especially as I do not expect any muscle building whatsoever to take place doing this workout.

All in all, this is my favourite Jillian workout so far. Lots of interesting exercises, moves quickly and before you know it the workout's over. I think I will stick to light weights for this one and use it as changeup for a cardio workout rather than a strength workout.

One interesting thing I noted, my upper outside glutes (not sure which exact muscle it is) actually has DOMS. Now, during my latest trip to the Running Room, the salesperson gave me some tips on power walking form and running form, and I have since changed my form a bit during my cardio coach walks to work. Why is it always so much harder to do exercises correctly than incorrectly?? Anyway, I think that is probably why I am feeling it so much there. I obviously didn't walk to work today, so the DOMS actually had time to build, instead of being walked out like usual. It's an odd place to have DOMS, and it feels weird!

In any case, I did get through the whole workout, and that feels like quite an accomplishment, all things considered. Maybe I can sleep tonight- or maybe I will have a little help from my friend Unisom to get me there. Unisom - no calories, unlike my best friend vodka!

hang in there

morningstar:
Hang in there. It sounds like you are very streached ti the limit. i hope taht everything gets better adn that you can actually get a good night sleep. It will do you worlds of good. (((((HUGS))))))

You are so right about stressing over a week of stree eating (lol) It does compound itself and you know what, reading it actually helped me allow myself to drop the guilt and move on, so thank you for the support:)

I was also looking at the Jillian Micheals DVD no more trouble spots you tried. It sounds good for $15 dollars. I think I will get it. Doing it is another thing tho ;)
I actually havd a sore left shoulder. I have an ultrasound book for next Friday but my chiro/PT thinks it is bursitis so we are not doing any shoulder work right now. It bums me out though because I thought i was getting stronger and fitter (if that is a word).
Oh well, Were just going to focus on plyo, lower body and abs for the next month. I hope I don't lose to much upper body streangh. When Will I ever be ready for STS?

Enjoy your Friday and I realy, truly hope that you have a better day.
Feel well everyone,
Mary

Hi guys,

After some thought, I am going to bow out of this check-in group and just blog from now on. I find that I am the one doing the majority of the posts and I often just paste from my blog. I appreciate all of you; I was hoping for a little more interaction with some cool people from my home province. I hope you all will decide to continue it on your own. I have found it to be very motivating when we are all involved and almost de-motivating when it seemed like I was almost the only one keeping it going. It may be that this check-in group is not a motivational tool that works for you guys, and that's totally cool and understandable. We all have to do what works for each of us. I hope you will check out my blog once in a while when you feel like it; I'd love to hear from you.

Take it easy, stay active and have fun this spring!

Hello every one,

After taking care of every one in my family who has been sick, I became sick as well this week :mad:.
I hate being sick, I know no one else enjoys it either but I really hate being sick. Any way Tuesday was the worst in bed all day, didn't eat and finally at 7pm DH made me get up to eat some noodles and broth. I never take pills but the head ache was so bad I was popping pills every couple of hours and had a permanent ice pack on my head. I felt so weak and tired. Looking back the Sunday before all this I did the time saver premix of cardio from Low Impact Circuit and I remember dragging myself through it thinking why is this so hard?

Oh well enough whining I am feeling much better now and did STS disk 9 Legs yesterday. It was a great work out and I did pause a couple of times to bring my heart rate down here and there. I was much better this time with the paper plate exercises:D:D I was worried I would never get those  dreaded slide back lunges.

Morningstar - please don't go completely please post just to say hi and what work out you did. Thanks for the reviews on the Jillian work outs, I think I will buy the plyo one. Where did you buy them from?

Stebby - I am planning on doing STS disk ten this coming week  sounds like a goody. I am desperately trying to catch up, so I can start Meso 2 with you and Cathe, and all STS'ers.

Mary - glad to hear your feeling better and not letting the stress get to you :) I hope your shoulder heals fast, my left shoulder bugs me some times. You'll be able to do STS soon :) Focusing on what you can do is great, and you can still do some upper body with out shoulder? :):)
Amy had some pictures on her web site of the new work outs, no date yet on shipping but it can't be long.

Elle - I love muscle endurance, I love all the leg presses too, even when my biceps are still numb and I can barely hang on to that plate LOL :D

Take care every one,

Bri:):)

Awww, Morningstar, I hope you don't leave us altogether! I do love to post here and read about what my fellow Ontarians are up to. I'm just not a big poster (I don't have as much time for it as I would like). I've been a member for going on 10 years and I only have a bit over 400 posts ... most people of my tenure have well over 10,000.

Morningstar - I hope you are getting more sleep! Sounds like a rough haul lately.

Buba - Hope you're feeling better!

Everyone else, keep going with the workouts!

I finished STS Disc #12 on Friday and am now in my rest week. By lovely coincidence it is also March Break week and I am on vacation!! Yippeee! We are doing a stay-cation until Thursday, when we leave for a few days at Blue Mountain. I am doing light workouts and my normal cardio and the DOMS is finally leaving my body.

Stebby

Hi Everyone,
I just wanted to check-in real quick and report that i just did basic step tonight. I did something to my neck in my sleep a couple of days ago and it's been killing me ever since!

Morningstar: I can understand how you feel and i'll definitely keep reading your blogs. I don't post daily, mainly because i don't always have a chance to get online or if i do, it's late and i just catch up on reading the posts instead.

Stebby: Enjoy your rest/vacation week!

Bri: Sorry to hear you were so sick. I hope you are back to your healthy kick-ass self as soon as possible but make sure you take it easy in the meantime!

HDAG: I hope everything goes ok with your shoulder. As for the stress eating, i have been there and done that many times! Just keep moving forward and try not to obsess about it too much!

Have a great Tuesday everyone,
Elle

Hi Lovelies!!

Last, last weekend I had a 4 day headache, a weird PMS thing which I hope won't be a pattern!! For so many years I never really had PMS symptoms though I felt for those who did. However, about three to four times a year I'd make up for it with killer, wanna call the ambulance cramps, diahrea, upjuck and that sort of thing. But recently I'm getting these little annoying PMS symptoms of dizzyness and headaches. But a 4 day headache was the first. Anyway nuff said, I was tuckered out and didn't do much workouts last week, but did get in Cardio Fusion last Wed. and Imax 3—Wooh Hoo!!:D yesterday!! I started with premix 1-5 (with lots of catch my breathe breaks and alot of the blasts I couldn't fully complete, would get 1/2 to 3/4 of the way through) and then did the stretch, then thought, dang it, it seemed so short let me try 6-10 and I got up to 9! And also, I found 6-9 easier than 1-5 and found I could finish all the blasts. So I'm going to do it that way from now on, that way I figure I can build my cardio power up better. Today I did Disc 7, Meso 1 but didn't finish the whole thing as I got too lightheaded. I think I'm a little overtired. But I did most of it. Tomorrow I'm planning on doing Step Works, it's so much fun even though it's older!

Morningstar: I agree with Stebby, don't leave altogether. I'm so much like her about posting. For me I tend to have to pace myself so I'm not a frequent poster, but I do try to read to keep up with everyone. I've subscribed to your blog which I love to read so I'll definitely keep up with you there. Just to let you know, I know how much you enjoy Cardio Coach and there was a recent thread saying he may be closing his store and he has his workouts on major sales so you might want to check it out.

Bri: I'm so glad you and your family are feeling better!

Stebby: Have a wonderful vacation with your family, what perfect timing for your rest week!!

Elle: I hope your neck gets better soon!!

Hdawg: Sorry, to hear about your shoulder. I've had problems with my shoulders too and had to go for physiotherapy last year. Mine is a result of poor shoulder posture so it's ongoing work to correct it. So I have to be more careful doing upper body work and be sure that they get rest days. And, I also ice them in the back when they really act up. So I totally understand, how your feel, it can be such a bummer. Have patience and get it figured out and on it's road to recovery.

Hey gals, what do you think about keeping this thread going as we are doing until the end of the month and do monthly threads instead. I like the continuity of doing them a month at a time. If this sounds good, lets just keep on going from here.

Have an awesome Tuesday everyone!!:D

Hey Twink, I like the idea of the monthly thread! You're right about the continuity factor.

Stebby

Hi Crazy Ontarians!!

Yesterday as promised I did Step Works and it was awesome!! I had some big improvements in cardio stamina!! Yippee!!:p I was able to do ALL of Combo 2 at full blast to the finish, mind you, I have to be honest, I did the first knee up around the world low impact and from then on I went all out. I was so impressed with myself because the blasts at the end of Combo 2 used to kill me and I couldn't get them the first two times I did this workout. Now this third time I can go all the way. "High Fives Everyone!!" as Cathe says!!:D:D Then I sat down for a much needed break and then decided what the heck I might as well do some of Combo 3 and I did about 3/4 of it before I poopered out. The reason why I love Step Works so much is not only does it have great choreography, dancey yet athletic at the same time with lots of propulsion moves but Cathe also kicks it up a notch with blasts at the end of each combo which really builds your cardio power. I find this workout really helps in conditioning me for doing the Imaxes. Then I did my soothing, trancelike dance Namaste yoga's Dancing Sun as my cooldown, stretch. It's so encouraging to witness yourself getting fitter it makes it all worth while and Cathe makes it soooo much fun!!:D:D:D

Today I did my gym workout for my legs, back and triceps and then came home and did the first squat (40# barbell, done as plie squats as they're safer for my knees) and lunge sequence of Gym Style Legs and some weighted leg lifts.

How's everyone's workouts going?

Have an awesome Thursday everyone!!:):)

Hello every one,

Well March break is over, kids are at school and my DH is at his new job.

I'm back to work tonight teaching my two fitness classes at the high school.
Our TV had been getting worse the picture that is, so first day of March break was spent looking for a new TV and then doing Move it Max.
As one piece of furniture was moved from one room to another it set off a whole chain of moving furniture events which took all day .

All other days I managed to get a work out in and I have only disk 11 left to do before Meso 1 for me is done :D. Then I will get busy with Meso 2, can't wait I have missed heavier weight training.
My DD turned 15 on Thursday, where does the time go ?

Our newly adopted dog of a couple of months is definitely pregnant, getting bigger every day :eek:. My DH did some calculations and she could have her pups on my Birthday. We are building her a birthing bed with pig rails, and a puppy corral for when they get moving about. Not long now before they come less than two weeks.

Bri :):).
