Core Max - Segment 2

Okay, I just did CM-2 last night for the first time. Does anyone else have huge balance problems when your hands are on the floor and your shins/feet are on the ball doing the pull ins and the pikes. I seriously took a tumble last night trying to do the pikes. It was really funny, but I need to be careful and not do that again :). Any tricks to this or just practice???? I am excited to try this segment more and master it.

TIA

Hi Kain,

Those are tough! Just place the ball further up on your legs, like put your knees on the ball instead of your ankles and then as you improve move the ball further down.

I'll second Amy's comments - it took me a while to figure that out, and I could NOT do the pikes to save my life. Then, sort of by accident, I was not as far back on the ball as I usually put myself, but at the time didn't want to stop to adjust... Suddenly, I was piking away!

Another piece of advice that I learned here that helped a lot with the pike move is to think about lifing your butt to the ceiling - NOT about rolling your feet in toward your chest. That made a world of difference to me.

Now if I can only figure out how on earth to do a levitation hold...

Also, pikes and planks are nearly impossible if you're on carpet. Try it on linoleum or another surface and see if that's easier.

Good luck!

Trouble with planks and pikes on the ball!?! Never...
These both took awhile in terms of core stregth and stabilization. I will say that you do get better, it just takes some practice. A few tips are to make sure that you have correct leg placement on the ball for your height/strength. You'll have to play around a little to find the best placement for you, but in general you'll find that having the ball closer to under your knees will make the planks and rolls-ins easier, but it can sometimes make the pikes harder depending on your flexibility. For the pikes, be sure to "flip" your feet up so that you balancing on your toes, solidly, on top of the ball, and not on the fronts of your feet. Watch Cathe's form closely and try to mimic her movements. Hold your core as tight as you can and aim your butt for the ceiling.
I personally don't have trouble with pikes/planks on carpet, but I know that I have to do the levitation holds on a very firm surface, and use Jai's hand position, not Cathe's, in order to get my legs off the floor.
Good luck and try not to knock over anything expensive:D

Those pikes are very tough, at first I could not do it and just kicked the ball out from underneath me because I was getting so frustrated. But I aired up my ball and WHAT A DIFFERENCE it made. I was actually successful and my hands didn't trimble nearly as much and the pike wasn't nearly has hard.

If you don't mind my suggestion, try airing up your stability ball to its fulliest, it might help you like it helped me.

thanks for all the advice!!! i am going to attempt again tonight. hopefully it will go better than it did wednesday. just in case it doesn't, i boxed up all my pottery so i don't break it.:)
