Cookbook suggestions please...

Hi, I was wondering if anyone had some suggestions for any good new cookbooks out there?

The book is for my father, he is a very good cook, not afraid to try out harder techniques, he eats VERY healthy, he eats meat, mostly fish and poultry, and is cool with oils and healthy fats, and is not concerned with watching calories, if possible I'd like a book that looks nice too. He likes the Bobby Flay books a lot for grilling and salad dressings, but I think he has most of them.

Any suggestions? Thanks! :)

This one looks interesting, I know he'll LOVE the title, I might send him a couple of books, I'm adding this one to the list now, actually I might get this for me too ;)

I love The Food You Crave by Ellie Krieger. Easy to prepare, delicious and healthy!

I actually just bought that one for me, based on comments from this board of course :D. Any favorite recipes?

Oh, yes - there are two that come to the top of my mind. The Baked Shrimp with Dill and Feta - yum! And my absolute fav is the Whole Wheat Fettucine with Roasted Red Pepper and Feta sauce. Both are super quick, super easy and use only a few ingredients. And the Red Pepper Sauce is also an excellent condiment on lentil burgers or used as a dip with pita chips! Delicious. (I'm so going to make that this week now)

Thanks Stephanie, I'll check that one out too, I think he could write his own book on clean eating, I'll check if it's more of a 'how to eat' or a cookbook.

NY, those both sound awesome, thanks!

Food You Crave is amazing. Does he like Barefoot Contessa? I love hers too. They are not perfectly all healthy but you could certainly tailor them that way and they are not all bad either. The great thing is the recipes are all whole foods and high quality ingredients and the books are gorgeous.

I sound like a broken record posting about them again, but...ANYTHING by America's Test Kitchen, the editors of Cook's Illustrated magazine. They are not a health-based group of cooks, but for people who love to cook, and who really want to learn the science of cooking, I definitely recommend anything from them. Just from my experience, once I started using their cookbooks and magazines, it totally revolutionized the way I cooked! By the way, check out Costco for any of their cookbooks, because they will be the cheapest there. (Another idea is he may really enjoy a gift subscription to Cook's Illustrated magazine.)

Now, as for a healthy cookbook, I heard about a cookbook called Gourmet Nutrition 2 from this forum. It looks like a beautiful book. I don't have it yet, but will as soon as I get the $$$. It's designed for people who love food, but who also eat healthy. I've seen several good reviews on it. You can get it on the Precision Nutrition website.

Hope this helps!

My biggest surprise healthy cookbook and one of the BEST I have ever used - and I use it all the time. Rick Bayless's Mexican Everyday.

Now - all of you are thinking I'm crazy - Mexican as healthy? ABSOLUTELY! This book is based on what we do every day with cooking - so the recipes are quick and easy. Rick Bayless is also a premier Mexican chef - having traveled all over Mexico - and his recipes ARE NOTHING like the Mexican food found in the standard restaurant. He uses very little cheese - light sauces - fresh ingredients - lots of vegetarian dishes. His focus is on extraordinary TASTE - not on smothering sauces and ridiculous cheesy masses.

He has salads and wonderful salad dressings - OMG! And his salsas are to die for - all fresh and easy to make. He uses a variety of techniques including grilling.

Also - the introduction talks about his struggle with weight and that this book comes from that struggle - he is a lean, mean chef now for sure.

I actually got to go to his restaurant in Chicago - he was there and he was certainly DREAMY! The food was incredible - and I have to say that prior to this cookbook, I HATED Mexican food. Now - I only love HIS Mexican food.

REALLY - try it. It is the very best cookbook and I have LOTS of cookbooks.

I love healthy mexican food. I never had any till I married my DH. He is mexican and his mom can make some awesome stuff that is so healthy. lots of soups etc with cilantro, cumin etc. I have a killer zucchini soup recipe from her. mmm. she has a way of making yummy stuff so quick/easy/healthy but with a mexican flare. some as simple as cooking some chicken breast, putting it in a warm corn tortilla and top with fresh cilantro, onion and tomato. then she'd make a side of homemade black bean soup. I may have to check out that cookbook :).

I cannot get enough of Jamie Oliver and Barefoot Contessa. I have never made anything by either one of these that turned out anything other than absolutely amazing and delicious. They aren't categorized as "healthy" cookbooks but everything is made from scratch and they use real, live herbs. Jamie's emphasis is fresh, organic ingredients and humanely treated animals, free range/grass fed beef, etc. so it isn't necessarily bad for you either. My house smells amazing when I am cooking one of his recipes.
