Continuing the Karen Voight Debate ...

Cathlete
Well I’ve checked her new website out too, and yes, she does look different. Softer. However…as some of you may have noticed, she is no longer the “hard body” she once was. In her new videos, though she is certainly in shape, she doesn’t (to me) have that ultra low body fat anymore (videos such as energy sprint and streamline fitness). I have her new videos, yoga focus and 7 day rotation and though her body is great, it’s not the same as energy sprint. Her face is fuller and healthier looking. Does anyone remember the energy sprint video? Her body was amazing, but her face so lean and gaunt. Not an ounce of fat on that lady! When I bought streamline fitness the first thing I noticed was – “wow, her breasts have grown”. But I personally think she looks great with her new improved bustline and while I think that she has probably had something “done” to enhance her looks, she does, to me, look very attractive. And more power to her for doing whatever it takes to make herself feel more beautiful. Now if only her cuing was as flawless as her face! In that respect, she’s really let her self go. But here’s something I’d really like to know…is she still married?

I think that she looks healthier now than before. In her videos she was always too thin. I think she looks great.

Maybe she felt pressure from the Hollywood celebrities she is a personal trainer to to have work done to keep the clients coming to her. Hollywood loves youth and continuing the appearance of it as a person ages. In any case I think to each their own. If the nipping and tucking makes her feel good about herself and that she can compete with the younger personal trainers in Hollywood more power to her. Life is too short. Live it up.

Wise words. I know what you mean, for the longest time she was the leanest person on the planet! I mean were talking single digit body fat numbers here. I bet money that she hadn't had a period for years. So yes, i think she look healthier now than before. But on saying that, as i said i have the new DVDs and in the into, other than looking overly youthful, she does look the same, just smoother.

As long as the doc knows what he's/she's doing.

Have you seen Burt Reynolds lately? His skin is so obviously pulled back it looks terrible. How can anyone think that skin pulled back so tight like that with cat eyes, looks better than having wrinkles? That's not the way anyone looks when they're in their 20's.

I think that when people keep going back for more and more they start to look so weird...(i.e. Michael Jackson ) Look at Joan Rivers! She has that pulled back look but doesn't look young at all. It just doesn't look good.

I'd rather have a few wrinkles than look like an alien.

I do also agree with everyone that Karen does look much better with a little meat on her bones.

;)

But here’s something I’d really like
>to know…is she still married?
I recall that she divorced her first husband (the producer of her older videos) several years ago. Don't know if she remarried or not.

But I personally think she looks great with her new
>improved bustline And more power to her for doing whatever it
>takes to make herself feel more beautiful.

I don't mean to "pick on" your post, but I see reflected in these two statements a societal image that large breasts are "better"" or more beautiful that smaller ones. Karen's bustline is certainly "new," but is it improved just because it is now artificially bigger? If she had gotten away from the "too lean" look earlier, she would have naturally gotten a bit bigger in the breasts as she gained some fat there, also(though not the D cup she seems to have purchased).

And I find it quite sad that she may have felt she had to do this in order to "make herself feel more beautiful," or that any woman contemplates breast implants in order to "look more beautiful," going for just one image of beauty. It perpetuates the idea that large breasts are "ideal."

That being said, I'm sure that if I had had the opportunity to have breast implants when I was 16 and very insecure about my body (I had earlier shaved my arms because I thought they were too hairy, and they aren't at all!), I would have done it (if someone else paid for it!), and, sure, I'd like to be a bit bigger, but it's rather disturbing to me to see such an increase in cosmetic surgery (especially breast implants, and especially in fitness instructors).

Our esthetic sense may be changing into one where the artificial starts looking better than the real, and those who can afford to get plastic surgery will look quite a bit different from those who can't, or don't wish to. It's creating a kind of "esthtic elite," where the rich are able to look younger and change their appearance, while the poorer can't, and the poorer will start looking "uglier" in comparison to those who have the work done (at least, once more people start having work done).

Well said, Kathryn! It is very sad that women feel the need to surgically change themselves. If only we could start surgically implanting self confidence...

I looked at her image and I think she may have a chin implant, or maybe cheek implants. I don't particularly want to debate her choices, but I made mine. After she had her new boobs, I stopped buying her videos.

Thanks for the comments ladies. The reason i say she looks better with her new improved (?) bustline is because before she had none. And i mean none. Now not that there is anything wrong with that, but i personally feel that she looks very attractive as she is. I think it improved her appearance 100%. But anyone who knows anything about fitness and body can tell they aren't real. I mean you don't get single digit body fat and have a great, big, frim rack. They just don't go hand in hand (no pun). Lose weight, lose fat, lose it from everywhere, and eventually the breast tissue gets smaller too. As for the married bit, thank you so much for answering that question. I would not stop buying her videos due to cosmetics reasons, i don't care what she does, but i would if the cueing doesn't improve.

Sarah:

that is brilliant! You have absolutely hit the nail on the head!!!

Listen, if they sold self confidence in packets, I'd be bulk buying at Costco!!!!!!!!!!

Instead, I choose to train with Cathe to make my body the most powerful performance machine it can be, and I look to the love from and for my family to make me feel like a special person on this planet.

No plastic surgery for me. If I could afford it, I would instead start a program in my community to help girls and young women get their fair space in sports and athletic pursuits, free of gender bias.

I think our achievements in our endeavours and honesty in our treatment of others make us far more beautiful than the promise of the surgeon's knife ever could.

IMHO. This debate will rage..........! ;-)

>Well said, Kathryn! It is very sad that women feel the need

This would seem to imply that women who have surgery to change themselves are lacking self-confidence. I don't necessarily think that is the case. I've met many women who do have wonderful self-confidence and have also had surgeries.

Colleen

If someone if completely confident with themselves why do they feel the need to change their appearance with such drastic measures?

Maybe someone just likes big boobs and happens to have small boobs. What I'm saying is that it doesn't necessarily mean that someone lacks confidence because they decide to change their appearance. Look at how many women cut their hair differently, dye, highlight, etc. Does that mean they lack confidence? I just don't think that because someone might like the way something looks differently means that they are an unconfident person. I think that's a wide generalization.

Icklemoley:

I am sure you are a lovely person, but there are so many aspects of your post that bug the hell out of me. I am going to comment on your use of language, not you.

"The reason i say she looks better with her new improved (?) bustline is because before she had none. And i mean none."

The overwhelming negativity of this sentence in fact implies that there is in fact something deeply wrong, maybe abnormal, in the combination of a body gendered female that lacks a visibly obvious bustline.

The negativity of this sentence also overwhelms, undermines and contradicts the backtracking reassurance to bustless Cathe forum members that the following sentence tries to achieve: "Now not that there is anything wrong with that, but......" The "not that.... but...." construction speaks for itself.

"But anyone who knows anything about fitness and body can tell they aren't real. I mean you don't get single digit body fat and have a great, big, frim rack. They just don't go hand in hand (no pun)."

So, if a woman has no visibly obvious boobs, it is a good thing to go get some that "aren't real", even if that falseness should be visibly obvious, because then her body will fit conform nicely to the conventions governing female gender and she will then be aesthetically more pleasing to the public gaze, which cultural theory tells us is always gendered male.

Finally, since it is not possible to have near-zero body fat and "a great, big, frim rack" (and that's just so vulgar I can hardly bear to copy and paste it x( ), Karen has successfully crafted herself into a living embodiment of a famous cultural icon of impossible femininity: barbie doll.

I've done my devil's advocate work and now I'm out of this debate. Have fun everybody!!!!

Clare

The people who like big boobs are men. If this world were full of just women there would be no such thing as breast implants.

I don't think I am generalizing. I was also not trying to say anything completely against women who decide to get plastic surgery. But I think it is very sad that people go to such extreme measures for the sake of what society thinks is beautiful. I'm sorry, but I feel that a woman is lacking in confidence or something to go under the knife.

Wow, Clare ... you comments. Ouch! Ok, let me say a few things. Firstly, i could care less about breast implants, face lifts, etc...whatever makes someone feel good about themselves all the more power to them. Thats what i think. Second, i do think she looks better with her enchanced bustline. Thats my opinion (and this isn't just because i'm a MAN!!! I'm gay so would have no interest in the sexual way). I personally find her more attractive as she is now. Softer. I did wonder about using the word "rack" as here in England it means kitchen item (something to place wet plates on) but heard it in Will and Grace and it made me laugh. I do think that there is negativity surrounding bustsize, but that will probably always be. I like Karen Voight before her "green genies" were in and i still like her now. I would never stop buying someones exercise videos just because he/she decided to do something to better themselves. This continuing the Karen Voight debate was not about who thinks what about her chest or face etc...it was about "is she still married" and now i have found that out, i think it best, for the sake of everyone (and her) that his topic be dropped.

I'm sorry, but there's a BIG difference between spending $50 on a temporary haircut or dye job and spending thousands on an invasive medical procedure that's meant to be permanent. Not to mention the fact that there are still a lot of questions regarding the safety of implants.

My $.02.

I guess what I don't understand is why that the closeminded view of it. So what, she got implants or a face lift. It doesn't change her workouts in anyway, shape or form. I don't care if someone has had surgery or not when I buy a video, I buy it for the effectiveness of the workout. Now, if she had some big claim that her chest grew because of a specific workout when obviously that wasn't the reason, that would be an entirely different story.

Colleen

I agree with Colleen. If Cathe grew another head, I'd still buy her videos, tho I might say "Holy cow! How did Cathe grow a second head?"

(scratching my head wondering how breast implants interest a gay man????)

This (above) was written so well - DAMN! I wish I wrote it first - LOL!

And you can be sure that all the discrimination and baggage that goes along with looking "older and uglier" will manifest itself in our society too. It already does to great extent. There will truly be an "overclass" and an underclass, more so than what already exists in this country.

Plastic surgery is out of control in this country. It boggles my mind what people are willing to risk to 'look good' and the hundreds of people each year who literally 'buy into it' rather than standing up and saying ENOUGH! But what can we do? There's no going back, is there?
