Comfortable dress shoes

Hi,
Sometimes I feel like I am the only one with this problem. Most days I can dress casual and wear sneakers, but on the days I have to dress buisness, my feet and ankles are killing me and SWOLLEN after a few hours. I have tried low heels, flats, round toes, square toes, wide width, shoes that are a half to a full size to big as well as ones that seem to fit perfectly when I first put them on. I don't know what is wrong. Do I need cushioning, arch support what? Any help any one can offer would be greatly appreaciated. I don't want dowdy looking shoes however. I want something that looks nice and dressy. Am I asking too much? I am also worried about the swelling but it only happens when I wear shoes that aren't sneakers but it happens all the time with shoes that aren't sneakers.

Not that I'm one to give shoe advice (since I wear children's sizes ~2.5), but I like BASS. Yes, they make big girl shoes too.hahaha My feet need support and lots of comfort. The shoes I've purchased are comfortable and supportive in my arches. Bass has quite a variety of casual and dress shoes. Cool boots too.

My feet swell a bit in the afternoon, also. Not a lot, just enough that I'm aware of it. I wear dress shoes with at least 2" heels every work day.

I've put inserts in all my shoes and that has made them more comfortable but the inserts make my shoes tighter because they're taking up space. I've started buying shoes half an inch larger to provide enough room for a bit of swelling and the inserts. This has helped me tremendously :)

I have horrible feet trouble--I have flat feet & they cramp up after a few hours no matter what I'm wearing. But Donald J. Pliner makes really, really comfy shoes that are also attractive. They're a little pricy but the quality is great, the styles are classic, & I still have a few pair I bought about 5 years ago.

For a lower end shoe sometimes I buy Aerosoles. They don't last as long but they're good for daily wear.

You probably need some high quality, leather shoes to start with (no Payless Shoe Source). If you are already wearing good shoes, you should see a podiatrist. He may recommend you get inserts to your shoes.

A good podiatrist is a wonderful thing!

I work in a large hospital and therfore do quite a bit of walking. Most recently, I found european comfort shoes made by Josef Seibel at Dillards. They were $100 but well worth the money. Otherwise, I usually look at the Doc Martens. I wear business casual clothes and usually wear pretty casual shoes. I dress for comfort versus style.

I've started to investigate this myself, and my supervising attorney told me there is a very good line - an EXPENSIVE - line of women's professional footwear named Munro. Locally here in the Twin Cities Minnesota area they're sold at Nordstrom's. She showed me a beautiful, elegant pair of rich dark brown suede on shiny leather.

Am gonna have to check these out myself.

Thanks to all for the other suggestions, people!

I'm addicted to Dansko clogs--have gone through about 4 pairs of them but only because I wear them so much that after a few years they're too beat up to wear with business clothes.

I also read not too long ago about a high-priced line of business shoes that were designed by a podiatrist--Thierry is the brand name, I believe. I saw them in a store here--about $300/pair. Ouch. But they're supposed to be incredibly comfortable. I also have friends who swear by Arche (spelling?).

Good luck--hope you find something that works for you! I have had such trouble finding comfortable dress shoes.
