Come say hello if you're around

Thank you and you too Marla. I love your longer hair in this pic. Very pretty! I just chopped 6 inches off of mine, wahhhh, I want it back. Oh well, you know how the saying goes..."Hair today, gone tomorrow"...:D
Good luck with your studies. It will all be so worth it.

Hi Cathe!

Happy New Year to you and your family. :)

I look forward to STS -- I've been in "study lock-down" and my mirror is a little "off," too. The reflection looks slightly, um ... wobbly? My, it's been a busy few months.

Thanks, Cathe, for all your incredibly hard work and dedication.

I wish everyone at Cathe.com a warm, blessed, and successful 2009!

Warmest wishes,
Marla

Hi Jerry. I didn't forget you, I just didn't get a moment to answer you last week :)

Well, for anyone with concerning back issues, dealifts are considered high risk. So I would say to find a substitute. Deadlifts work primarily low back, hamstrings, and glutes so yes, you can do other exercises to target these areas. Since you mentioned squats, if they don't bother your back, you can do them. Try Plie squats instead as they will take much of the presure off your low back. You can also do lunges to get your hamstrings and glutes. You can do stability ball roll ins for hamstrings and stationary supine planks on the ball for low back and hamstring strength too (when you are on your back with your feet on ball and press your feet down into ball as you engage your core and lift your hips up and keep your arms down at sides). You can do supermans for low back as well. I hope that helps. Let me know if you need more help.

Cathe,

I do all the exercises you mentioned with no discomfort at all...yet the deadlift is simply taboo for me. One of my favorite moves of yours that I do is the plie squat while holding a dumbbell, so maybe I'll throw that in anytime a deadlift is being done!

Thanks again!!

Hi Cathe!! I hope the New Year is good to you and finds you well!!! I am looking forward to STS!! Take care!

Great idea Jer!

Hi Cathe,
I'm sick and catching up on all the forums. I wouldn't have otherwise had a chance to talk to you. I guess it is true to be joyful in whatever state your in. I can't wait for STS. I ended 2008 workingout but this new year has not started out so well for me. No worry, I'll get right back as soon as this earache is gone. Fitness Freak has put a wonderful rotation using your workouts and I sure am enjoying the burn.
Did you have your pickled herring for New Year's? The Polish tradition is the same. I love it. I guess you have to grow up on it though. Not very many people are fond of it.
Thank you for your great workouts.
I wish it were cold here so I could bundle up,but it is so hot here in Texas we are all wearing our bathing suits.

Veronika
My sister Monika and I loved your roadtrip in July. I sure hope we can make the next one.

Hi Cathe! I just wanted to say thanks for all your workouts. They've gotten me (and kept me) in amazing shape the past 5 years. I can't wait until STS gets here!

Cathe...

Class time is still 9:20, correct...Tri-Staters may be picking up new members for the class on the 16th, want to make sure time is still correct?

Cathe:

I am excited that you will be joining us for STS. Are you planning to share "before" and "after" pictures with us? I am still inspired by your transformation after your pregnancy. I would love to see your new hairstyle too! Enjoy the weekend! :)

Blessings,
Heather B.

Thanks for that fun note Veronika. It was nice to get an update. I hope your earache goes away soon. I can't believe you are in a bathing suit right now....no fair, lol. I am such a warm weather buff at heart. I never tire of sunny and warm days. Happy New Year!

Hi Cathe!

I don't have any questions for you, just wanted to stop by and say
Happy new year to you!!! Looking forward to seeing STS and working out with you in all your videos this year!

Last May I got a cute little 2 month old Yellow Lab puppy, who is now a CRAZY 65# 9-1/2 month old puppy, so I haven't had much time for working out lately. I've been waking up early to take her on her walk, running home at lunch to let her out and play, staying at work late to make up the extra time at lunch, then rushing home to play/walk with her in the evenings. It's really hard to get a Lab puppy enough exercise without running, but I'm waiting until she's a year to 14 months old to do that so her joints last a good long time. We've also been through a 12 week basic obedience school course and will be back for private lessons when she's a little more healed from her recent spaying.

My new year's resolution is to get back into exercise, first adding weight lifting back into the schedule, then adding in running when Gracie is about a year old, then adding my cardio workouts back in on days she walks with the hubbie instead of running with me. I'll probably cave and add in some cardio before then, but that's the plan for now. Taking the time to raise Gracie this way has been hard, and also so rewarding!! I am eagerly anticipating popping a DVD into the player tonight and pumping some iron, though. It's been entirely too long.

IIRC, you're a fellow dog lover, so thought I'd share a couple of pics.

Hi Cathe! My husband asked me to pass a big thank-you from him along. We're having an incredibly snowy season - the heavy waterlogged kind as well as the frozen crispy kind. THIS year I'm doing more than my share :) I explained that's because you taught me so well this year, especially these tips:

(a) what you do to ONE side, do to the OTHER (so now I use both sides for shovelling, not just the stronger side. Which side is stronger? I have now forgotten! Both are nicely toasty.

(b) those one legged squats are great muscle builders for getting down under the weight of a heavy shovel, and then throwing it over the four foot high burms :)

And you also taught me how to getting in looowww, with a plie squat; that's just perfect for pulling the ice chunks up and out.

Anyway, thanks from both of us up in snowy northern Idaho! Enjoy your tea, and have a terrific New Year.

Oh my goodness.....what a cutie and beauty your Gracie is. Thank you so much for sharing those adorable pic's. I just want to reach in the screen and hug her. She is truly a beauty and I think it is wonderful that you have devoted your time to her thorough upbringing. The early years are critical and dictate the future. Good for you! Hugs to all of you!

That's awesom Deb! You are putting all of these fit tips to perfect use. I love it. I am happy to hear that your hubby is lovin' it too. A very happy new year to both of you!
