Clean eating – HELP!!

Fitnik

Cathlete
I have read and been inspired by K60 and other’s stories about clean eating, cutting out sugar/white flour etc.. for incredible weight loss.

I am not a sugar/white flour addict so cutting these out is not a problem. What is really getting to me is that it just doesn’t seem to fit into my lifestyle during the working week.

I work in Westminster (London) and am always out for lunch. Bringing in my own food simply wouldn’t work out. There were no choices today when I went out with a colleague which fitted within the plan so I ended up eating off plan yet again. It’s so frustrating as I wasn’t craving the white rice and chicken kiev I had today – there was simply nothing else to eat which would also sustain me through a hectic afternoon at work!!

Has anyone lost weight by just halving their portions or just eating things in moderation rather than cutting out whole food groups altogether? I am beginning to realise that, realistically, only this sort of plan could ever succeed with me. Cutting out food groups with limited choices during the week just won’t work for me and will only lead to more frustration.

Any thoughts? Thanks.

I'm not in your situation, but I bet it must be tough. I'm currently reading a book called Picture Perfect by Dr. Shapiro. This book literally has pictures of food and shows calories, fat, fiber etc. For example a chicken soup vs. minestrone soup ~ it points out what is the better choice.
Also, maybe eat some raw veggies on the way to the restaurant so you’re not as hungry when you get there.

Anyone who can control their portion sizes without cutting out any food group (including white flour and sugar) is bound to lose weight. You have the right idea and yes, you can lose weight. Don't feel like you have to cut anything completely out of your diet. Moderation is the key. If you want to lose weight...your output has to be more than your input (no matter what it is) and if you want to maintain your weight....your output must equal your input.
I think that eating a variety of foods in moderation is definately the way to go. The problem with so many people is that when they go out to a restaurant they can't just go to a restaurant and eat half of what they are given or buy a bag of chips or cookies and just eat a handful instead of half the bag. That's why most people choose to avoid them all together. I have read that over and over on these posts.
Do what fits into your lifestyle. I personally eat all kinds of foods in moderation. Last night for instance, we went over to my in-laws to watch the All-Star baseball game on tv and they had hoagies, chips and homemade cookies. I made myself a hoagie with turkey, cheese and vegtables, had a handful of doritos, two pieces of watermelon and a couple cookies. Did I feel terrible about my food choices? Absolutely not. I quite enjoyed what I ate and didn't over-eat. Did I feel terrible the next morning with less energy? Of course not.
Moderation is the best policy in my books. With Cathe's workouts and eating a balanced diet full of all kinds of wonderful foods I've maintained my weight of 120 lbs (5'7), I'm healthy and strong and have lots of energy!

I haven't but a good friend did. I am talking she didn't clean up her habits at all...i.e., Taco Bell burrito for lunch, etc. BUT that is what worked for her. She cut her portions in half or 2/3rds and always left some on her plate and lost about 30 lbs. Doesn't workout either.
