Clarissa, you look great!

I just wanted to drop a line and ask, how do you do it?!?!
I know that eating clean and exercising are the keys... but do you have any other tips????:D

Hi Alini - Thanks so much. You don't know how much that means to me - if you knew my background with weight loss and fitness you would be surprised at how shocked I was to see my name on here today!

How I do it is simple - I persevere and push to my fullest potential 6 days per week so I don't go back to the "way I used to be" as a teen. I really believe less cardio, more weight training has really worked for me. It has changed my body in significant ways. I was always overweight and teased throughout high school. Now I am a personal trainer (www.embracethechallenge.net) and want to help others gain the self-confidence that I have.

Honestly - I really appreciate your compliment and am blushing from it! Haha! And by the way - you too look fantastic! You keep up the great work. You must be doing something right!!

PS - While I always encourage others to eat clean, my own eating isnt' really that clean all the time - I am NOT going to lie to you about that!!

Thanks again, Clarissa :)

Just popping in to tell you both--you are fine, foxy gals! You both look amazing!:) And both sound like really nice people too.;)

Tneah! You should talk!! Look at you, foxy lady also!! And a sweetie on this forum. From your posts, I see we sometimes agree on a lot of things...

THanks for the compliment,

Clarissa :)

Hello Clarissa,

You do look great.

What system of weight training do you prefer? More heavy, medium or light weights? Do you use Cathe's S&H, Gym Style, Pyramids and 4DS? I can't decide which I like better, therefore, I can't stick to a routine long enough to see results. I go from thinking I need less cardio and more heavy weights to thinking the opposite. I like all types of weight training, but sometimes my mind tells me different things.

Any tips you have is much appreciated.

Yen

Thank you ladies! But the truth is that the pictures you see are at least a year old and i gained a good 10 to 15 lbs. But you are all a great inspiration and I really take seriously any advise coming from women like you. Thank you for the tip Clarissa! Again... you look fantastic!

Joining in the gushing--you gals all look awesome!! :)

Clarissa: you mentioned that you found less cardio/more weights to be the answer for you: just wondering what you mean by "less cardio"? Is it fewer sessions per week, or shorter durations, or both? Do you find that you've lost any cardio endurance by cutting back on cardio?

I'm trying to increase my cardio endurance right now so I can get through the training needed for my first full marathon later this year (not to mention get through the actual event LOL!), but I would love to be able to get away with fewer and/or shorter sessions without compromising my endurance. It might be that I just have to suck it up for now and focus on my endurance and put the emphasis back on weights after my marathon, but I thought I'd see if there were a way to do both ;).

Thanks!
Jennifer

Yen: I'm exactly like you--can't stick to one routine because when I'm in the middle of one, I think I should try another approach LOL! Oh well, at least we get variety, right? ;)

Jennifer,

Just read your earlier post about less cardio. I KNOW EXACTLY what you mean. I go through the same thing.

If I do less cardio then I feel like I am losing fitness, especially the running. When I can run, I run quite well and I think I would like to run better. But if I run I spend less time doing weights (running takes a lot out of me). I must admit that I am more afraid of losing the cardio than the strength because I find cardio (especially running) to tougher.

We'll have to figure this out as I want to results.

Hi everyone! Sorry, I was at work and just got home!!

Yes - I admit, I have lost "endurance" so to speak. I notice when I try to run, say, more than 30 minutes straight, it is quite challenging, but I can still push through it. However, I like HIIT for now, both shorter sessions (about 20 minutes) and less times per week. I mean, I went from 6 cardio days per week to 3 cardio days. I love circuits LOVE THEM, but am currently doing a 6 week Pyramid rotation for upper and lower on alternating days. I do this currently:

Sunday: 60 minute interval training OR steady state cardio- treadmill OR 60 min kickboxing (depends how I feel)

Monday: OFF

Tues: 20 minute HIIT and upper body full pyramids linked w/ eccentric training (meaning I focus more on the negative, slow rhythms)

Wed: Upper body pyramids, full and eccentric

Thurs: Upper body pyramids eccentric

Friday : 20 minute HIIT and lower body pyramids

Saturday: Total body workout OR a circuit workout (both cardio and light to mod weights)

So far, I have REALLY seen results. Starting in March, I plan to go to circuits mostly. We'll see. Take care, everyone!

Right Tneah - like for example, and of course it varies, but say I would set the treadmill for 20 minutes. I would start out jogging at a 10-min mile for a minute or less - then bang out an 8 minute or 7.5 min mile for about 2 minutes, shoot back down to maybe a 9 minute mile to recover and then shoot it back up again and sprint as fast as I can for 60 - 120 seconds, just depends. Yeah, it sucks. But it feels soooo good cuz 20 minutes flies by.

Hee hee,

Clarissa

>Cool, so is Imax3 and 2 considered HIIT?

I think the "blast only" premixes are considered HIIT, but the entire workouts, themselves, are not (because of the step combos--they take your heartrate down to "steady state" for too long).

I, personally, consider 4DS Bootcamp to be HIIT--there's very little (if any) recovery time and my heartrate is sky high for the entire workout. I couldn't do that workout much longer than it currently is.

>Cool, so is Imax3 and 2 considered HIIT?

I am sorry, but I wouldn't know - I don't own them! I own only BM2 for step-related and strongly believe the blast portions would be considered HIIT in BM2. Same with most blasts in BC, like the sumo-squats, ice-breakers, terminators, sequential power kicks - so anaerobic. UGH!

Not to invade your thread but I had to chime in. Clarissa, I don't have a chance to post on here much anymore but everytime I'm on the boards I can't help but notice your arms and abs on your avatar- I'm so impressed. Truly an inspiration. I totally get where you're coming from - I too was heavy as a teenager and am now in the best shape of my life and sometimes it's hard to look in mirror and see who you are now and not the heavy teen with no self confidence that you used to be.

You truly look fabulous.

Clarissa,

I noticed that you work upper body 3-4 (including the total) times a week and lower body 2 times. You don't need to put a rest day in between the heavy weights like they always say?

Do you use the Pyramids DVD or follow your own routine? Which Cathe weights DVDs would you reccommend?

Thanks again.

Yen
