Christmas Present Suggestions...

...for my Bf's nephew. Though I don't know him very well, I do know this much: He is 13, in 8th grade, not "into" any sport in particular, likes video games (but I am not sure what he would need in that realm).

We are a new(er) couple (4.5 months) and will be with our respective families on Christmas, but I wanted to get his family some small gifts. A little stumped on what to get for the nephew that is reasonable in cost and might fit the bill!

ETA - if your suggestion is a gift card, what denomination is appropriate?

Any help out there?

A Best Buy gift card would be nice. I would think 20?

Peter: Oh my god, Brian, there's a message in my Alphabits. It says, 'Oooooo.'
Brian: Peter, those are Cheerios.

I agree with the Best Buy gift card for $20. That's enough to buy a game or movie or whatever he may need/want. My SO's son is 11 and is soooooooooo thrilled whenever he receives a gift card!

You might want to give him a unique gift that he can enjoy year round. My son (12) also likes video games and enjoys his subscription to Nintento Power. I like it because at least it makes him read and he gets excited about getting something of his own in the mail every month. He likes it because it has stories about lots of different games and he takes it to school to show his friends. You can get a subscription for as little as $10/year on ebay, however there is longer wait for the first issue if you go thru an ebay seller - check feedback. It costs about $20/year to order it straight from the company but he'll get his first issue a little faster. Just type in Nintendo Power under the subscriptions topic on ebay if you choose to go this route.
Happy Shopping!:)

I vote for the gift card. $20 or $25. Best Buy sounds good. Or maybe a Visa gift card since it can be used anywhere. When you get to know him better, you can buy something more personal.

An i-Tunes gift card? My 13yo son has gotten a few of these and enjoyed having them. Also, it's nice because it doesn't require the parent to drive you to a store!

Another good gift (this might sound silly) is chocolate. My brother's new wife sent our family, but mainly my kids, a small box of Godiva chocolates for a holiday gift last year and it was a nice ice breaker, because they could talk about how they all enjoyed chocolate!

You might want to conside something different that would help the little guy develop healthy habits, like a gift certificate for an hour or half hour personal training session at a nearby YMCA. When my boys were young teens they practically swooned at the macho-ness of going to a personal trainer...
