Congrats, Cards fan here, but in Central Illinois the long time Sox fans are celebrating! Another sweep this year, WOW!

Woo Hoo!!!! I'm so glad it didn't go into extra innings, too! I could barely keep my eyes open last night from staying up for game#3.

Fox news cameras are over at Dick's Sporting store right now. It's a mob scene. I'll have to hurry over to get shirts before they are all sold out.

Yippee!!!:7 :7 :7 I'll be sad if Paul Konerko doesn't come back.:(

You know that song "Vertigo" by U2? They had it on the radio this morning but it was all about Paul Konerko. Instead of saying "Vertigo" they sing "Konerko". LOL! I LOVE it!

I had tears in my eyes, I was so happy they won! I remember my parents taking me to Sox games when I was a little girl. It's been 88 years since they won a World Series! 88 YEARS!!!

Angie! DH is ecstatic!!!!!!!!!! OMG!!!!!!!!

Oh, and I officially love the Journey song "Don't Stop Believing" again! It was so cool that Steve Perry was at all the games rooting for the White Sox!

>Question.....

>Why is it called the WORLD Series when only teams from North
>America play in it?;)

Interesting Shelley!

Here's a link with all the answers to questions about the World Series. Maybe it's in here.

http://www.answers.com/topic/world-series

Oh, wait! I think I found the answer:

The "World" appellation has stuck despite the fact that only teams in the United States and Canada participate. While some would contend that there is no reason to believe that the World Series winner is a significantly better team than any club team outside Major League Baseball, no challenges have been made by other leagues. Attempts to pit the North American champions against champions in the Japanese or Latin American leagues have, so far, not succeeded.

A persistent myth is that the "World" in "World Series" came about because the New York World newspaper sponsored it. Baseball researcher Doug Pappas refutes that claim, demonstrating a linear progression from the phrase "World's Championship Series" (used to describe the 1903 series) to "World's Series" to "World Series". Furthermore, investigation of the New York World for the relevant years revealed no evidence of the supposed sponsorship. (For details, see Mr. Pappas's web page on the subject (http://roadsidephotos.com/baseball/name.htm)).

Okay Sarah! I will!!!!!!!!! :)

Woo hoo! I actually thought of you Dani last night while watching it on TV.

Btw, even though it's played in the United States, the MLB has players from all over the world (and definitely they have fans from all over the world too.) I think it would be cool if they play the World Series in other parts of the world every once in awhile.

Oh, I love U2! I missed that. What station? I listen to the Eric and Kathy show if I have the radio on at all.

Yeah, that was cool that Steve Perry was there. Did you see during the postgame interviews, he was singing that song with several of the players?
