Hi Cheetahs :)

How are all the recoverig racers doing??? I hope the knee issues are feeling better :7

HI Adri

Carole- How often do you get massages? I have only gotten them while on vacation. Although my DH can really massage nicely when I am fairly tight or have DOMS. Do you want to laugh? DD and her friends were allowed to get foot massages in one hotel during her China trip. Aall of them did. Can you imagine a group of high school kids all coming in for foot massages???

Today will be a circuit WO for me.(HSTA or BOOT CAMP) Then I am off to visit my older kids for parents weekend.

Fitlibrarian- I read your race report. Your really did well !!! Don't worry about the scale. THe numbers are just not that important in the big picture. :)

Elaine- I am so sorry about your brother. He is in my prayers. God willing you will do well and as mentioned earlier. I'm guessing that is what he will want.

Hi to ALL our Cheetahs!!!!!!

Good Morning Ladies.

Today will be spin or elliptical for me depending on when I get to the gym.

I have a bit of DOMS through my entire body from HSTA! Gotta love it! }( ;)

I got called into work at the last minute yesterday to cover the 5-8 shift so I had to cancel my run w/my friend but I was able to get in a fast-paced 2 miler (20 min.) after work was over so I was satisfied with that.

I talked to my friend about the 5 mile race and she definately wants to do it but is going to wait a bit to sign up. She'd prefer to wait for an idea of what the weather will be like. I dont' blame her! :7 :7 :7

Okay, well my lil' guy is in his crib complainin' so I'd better go. Actually, if I want to make spin class I need to move quickly!

Ta-ta!:p

G'morning Cheetahs!! Well, feeling lazy after doing nothing yesterday! Oh wait, I did do some stretching & gentle pilates last night which felt good.

I woke up w/ more DOMS in my thighs today!! Ouch!! I guess it definitely was a delayed soreness!!! I'm going in for my deep tissue massage at 10 while Allison's at preschool. She has her pictures today, I hope she smiles pretty! Melissa & Erin got their massages yesterday & said it was wonderful! On a good note, my knee is feeling MUCH better after icing & Advil y'day. I hope it was just a fluke thing. I'm wondering if it wasn't from running on so much concrete, I'm not used to that! I plan on getting new shoes before I start running again now that I've trained a lot & ran in mine for the marathon.

I'm going to do some yoga today & stretch out well.

Have a great Tuesday!

Cathy ~ Enjoy your run or yoga! Run for me, ok?? I talked to my brother & he said that he'd run for me this week while I'm recovering since I ran enough for him on the marathon to last him a week!! ;-)

Adri ~ How did the move go? Do you like your new house?? Have a great day at school, Lil' Cheetah!

Natalie ~ Wanted to add my congrats on the half!!! GREAT job, girl & great job on the weight loss!! Woohoo! Rest up & take it easy for a couple days!

Judy ~ Knee is feeling better today, thanks! It was very painful Sun night & y'day though!! Trying to rest up & let my body recover! Enjoy your workout today!

Wendy ~ Sounds like a busy night getting in to work & then working out!! Great job on the run, you're coming right along, Cheetah!! Enjoy your spin class if that's what you decide to do!

Karen ~ GREAT job on your 5K turned to be a 4 miler!!! Sorry about the knee, I can relate!! Very painful!

Linda ~ I'm glad you joined in! This is an awesome group of ladies! Good luck w/ your half, what training plan are you using? Will this be your first half?? I can't wait to hear all about it!

Christine ~ Indian food sounds wonderful. I grew up next door to an Indian family (he was our family Dr. too!) and got introduced to lots of wonderful things. YUMMY! Hope your heel feels better, I think I missed what happened?? Your half is coming up fast!! You'll do great!

Carole ~ How did the massage go?? I can't wait to get mine done today, I know it will feel wonderful!

Susan ~ We all need rest days. I know, it was really hard for me at first too, but after fighting off tendonitis I learned the hard way how important it is. But yoga or pilates are good for *off* days so I don't feel lazy!!

Elaine ~ More ((HUGS)) for you & your brother!! I am excited about your marathon now that mine's over with!!

OK, running out of time so sorry if I missed anyone!

Good morning! Thanks for the welcome, everyone!

Elaine, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your brother. I am sure that is very, very rough to be going through.

Susan, my first 10k was the day of your 10k!

Wendy, I really wish I had a running buddy to train with! It gets boring running myself all the time! Congrats on your race the other day!

Carole, I like that phrase! That is a good one! I was only running a couple - to a few days per week. Then, I decided to try and start to "up my mileage" to try and train for some races just recently. Lately I have been trying to run 5 or 6 times per week. I saw where you have been cross training with your eliptical and you said it has helped your running. How many days per week are you using it? I have thought about using mine some, too.

I really do feel clueless about trying to train for further distance while trying to keep up my weight training. But I am giving it my best shot!

This morning I ran 4 miles and did GS BS&B. I then did the abs from Firm Vol. I. :-(

Hope everyone has a great day!!

Linda

Thought I would post again about my 1/2 incase anyone missed it yesterday.

My 1/2 Marathon

Morning of the race:
I was tired as I had not slept well and was feeling kind of down. I had really wanted to be under 130 pounds for this race. My ideal race weight is 122. I have been getting real close to breaking the 130 point. This morning I stepped on the scale and I weighed 129.5 I was so happy I started to happy tears and got the boost of energy that I needed.

The line for the bathrooms was huge and I feared that we were not going to make the start. I saw another bathroom in the park and noticed no line for the mens batroom. We went in and announced that we were desperate and used the men's bathroom.

We then ran to the start and got to the start 2 minutes before the race began.

I took my shirt off between miles 2-3 (it had been cool enough for long sleves). At mile three I noticed my watch said 25:15. I could not believe we had done the first three miles that fast. Well, we didn't somehow my watch stopped when I took off my shirt. Miles 3-6.5 were great and I saw my family around mile 4.

Miles 6.5-11.5 were brutal as the south wind was freezing. I saw my family again at mile 8 (I should have asked for my shirt back). I stopped and gave my husband a kiss.

I thought I was going to get sick at mile 11.5 (bad goo?) and really had to slow down. The slowness was making my running partners knee hurt so I told her to leave me.

At mile 12 I was feeling mentally fatigued but prayed and told myself how hard I had worked.

Close to the finish line my partner (who crossed at 2:18:00) joined me, as did my two sons.

I crossed the finish line at 2:22:00. All finishers got a medal. My bib looks like it went through a war. The girl that crossed before me threw up. I was a little wobbly but fine. My abs are killing me as this was one heck of an ab workout. All in all I am pleased with my time. I have to consider the cold wind, and the fact that I had an elevated heart rate at the beginning of the race (due to the bathroom thing). Without the wind I think I could have stayed with my partner. Her daughter ran 1:52:00.

Now I am really tired I almost feel like I have the flu. I am not going to workout all week but will be running the Race For The Cure next Saturday. I will try and get some pictures up when I get a chance.

I think I could race this distance again, but would want to be in better shape if I ever run a full Marathon.

Good morning cheetahs

Cathy...you can join at that site for free, and they have a Forum also, I kinda scanned thru it and found the Auto pause answer...:)...enjoy your run and some Yoga..

Adri...sorry about the night of homework! Have fun with bi's tri's and abs.

Judy...I am trying for a monthly massage. The benfits are so worth it. I have heard of foot massages like what your DD got! I used to get my DH to do one after long runs, but then I have to do his, and he doesn't even run!! Have fun with your circuit workout.

Wendy...WOW! You had a chaotic afternoon yesterday!! Enjoy spinning or the Elliptical.

Jess...getting DOMS the 2nd day is quite common after a marathon. Good to hear your knee is better. Enjoy the massage...:)

Natalie...thanks for sharing your half story! I also posted to you in the Open forum. I got stomach problems once from Gatorade (which I avoid) but it could be the gu too. You managed to push yourself thru some rough spots and your training paid off!! Congrats!! I hope you are feeling better today...:)

I am doing GS Legs standing and a 6 mile run. Then yardmax and cleanmax...

Have a great day...:)

jess...looks like we posted at the same time! My massage was great and I bet you will love yours. Just tell the massage therapist easy on the sore legs!!...:)

Jess, I have never run a half before :+ As a matter of fact, last weekend was my first 10k. I haven't been using any certain plan or schedule. I have just been kind of going at my own pace. I definitely need to start using some plan. Any suggestions? A couple of people that I met at the 10k live close to me and they pretty much run the same distances that I have been running and they suggested adding a mile a week to my long run and that should have me ready by the 1/2 (which is in the middle of Nov). What do think? I have been reading Runner's World Complete Book of Runnning for Women, but it seems like the schedules start completely at the beginning. I am really afraid I won't be ready for it, so I truly need some advice!

Congratulations to everyone and their races! I guess I had better get busy and get some work done, since I am at work :+

Linda

Linda...I use my Elliptical 2 times a week and sometimes for about 5 min to warm up before a run. I run 4 days a week unless I am training for something long..I hear you about increasing mileage and keeping up the weight traing...we just need longer days...:)...Good workout today!

And another post from me because my Mom just called. My Grandma is failing quickly. She was in a lot of pain last night so she is on the morphine drip. My Aunt is flying back in from Russia & will be here tonight (Mom thinks Grandma will hold on til she is back). I plan on driving up w/ Allison after Kiersten & Hannah get on the bus tomorrow.

I am so glad that we stopped to see her on the way to the marathon, we all got to see her one last time while she was still able to talk. She was not doing well then though, not even able to feed herself or get out of bed. It is very sad but I will be glad that she is not in any pain. She's had a long life (she's almost 93!) and has touched many lives.

Anyway, just feeling a bit sad about it. My family has been such an important part of my life.

Thanks for reading.

Yep, that sounds like a good plan. Adding on a mile a week is kind of like Hal Higdon's plans. Check it out http://www.halhigdon.com I recommend starting w/ the novice half marathon plan since it is your first. I definitely think you have enough time by Nov to be ready. And runnersworld has some training plans also.

Good luck & let us know if you have any questions!

Jess...I can understand your sadness. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time...sending ((((HUGS))))

Hi Cheetahs,

Can't chat for too long today (or the rest of the week most likely, not until the weekend, at least), but I just wanted to check in quickly and say:

Elaine and Jess: I'm so sorry to read about what you both are going through. I don't have any profound words--I don't think there's anything I could say to make your situations any easier to bear, but do know that I am pulling for you and I hope that you and your loved ones will get through this.

Fitkansaschick: woohoo!! Congrats on the 1/2!! :)

I'm off to do GS Legs today! I did GS BBS yesterday and oh boy, do my biceps hurt... Ouchie!!

Jennifer

Jess, I am so sorry about your grandmother. I hope and pray that everything is okay for her and you and your family.

Fitlibrarian - Great report and congrats on your half! I hope and pray I make it through one! I will probably be the one throwing up at the end of the race :+ But I am going to give it my best shot!

Hey All!

Highly energetic me, is feeling really blah today. I don’t feel like doing anything except curling up with a book and reading. I’m wondering if it’s connected with my injury. My finger is still really swollen – but it’s only swollen where the band hit me, not the whole way through, and I can type with it – just can’t bend it – so it’s not broken. So, I guess I’ll take a rest day today, and see how I feel tomorrow. I will say I’m rather hesitant about using bands again! Holy OUCH Batman! I have my lovely appointment with my OBGYN today… Maybe THAT’S why I have no energy! I hate those appointments! :p

Cathy – Hope you get everything in! Enjoy your run!

Adri – Enjoy your day at the gym! Hope the Homework Monster is a little kinder to you today!

Judy- oooh, foot massages… I like full body massages, but I adore foot massages. Rub my feet and I’ll follow you anywhere… :p The mental picture of all of the kids going in for foot massages is funny. And I think HSTA, which is my fav! Either way- enjoy!

Wendy – I’m so excited that you’re going to run “with me”! It’s going to be another day of races, and Elaine’s in the day before! How’s the job going? Are you enjoying it?

Linda – Sounds like you have the idea of how to strength train and run distance down pat. It IS time consuming, though, I will admit. I’ve been lucky in that I’ve had the summer off to train, so it’s been easier. I’ll do my last long run before I start a new job. I liked the schedule from Runner’s World – it has you running 4 days instead of 3 and I think it just makes more sense. But, you should use whatever works best for you.

Jess – Enjoy your massage –I think you totally deserve it! I’m so happy to heary our knee is better! And yes, I can see concrete doing that – it has no give – tarmac does. The heel was just a fluke. It’s better now after ice and stretching. And {{{{HUGS}}}}you’re your Grandmother. She’s in my prayers.

Carole – I’m okay with Gatoraide as long as it’s not full strength. The sweetness does me in when it’s full strength. *shudders* Enjoy your run.

Natalie – Congrats on the weight loss AND the successful Half Marathon! WAY TO GO!!!

Jennifer – Enjoy GS Legs.

Hey ladies.

I got my butt in gear in time for spin class. YOWZA! My legs were already feelin' it from HSTA and my run last night! It should be FUN FUN FUN getting out of bed in the morning! }( }( }(

Christine, What time does your race start? I'll be thinking of you! :) The job is going well. It fits well into my life right now and there have been no more mis-haps on my supervisor's part so I am very happy about that!

I'll be back with more personals in a few....gotta go make my lunch!:9 }( :D
