::::: CHEETAHS ::::: Sat., 2/3

Good morning Cheetahs! I’ve got a cold so took some Thereflu cold medicine last night. I was asleep before 9 and didn’t get up until 8 this morning. My workout today will be PUB and elliptical. I’ll throw in some abs too since I could not bring myself to work them yesterday after running 5 miles and then doing B&G leg blast. I’ve got a ways to go with B&G. Like on the one legged lunges (where one foot is on the step behind you) I always have to pull out of those early. For some reason those have always been tough for me.

Anyway, I’m going to attempt some personals now.

Cathy, After almost 2 decades doing the same computer programming job I am ready to switch. For the past 6 years I was working part time primarily from home but have not been working since June. So right now I am working my way toward being a paralegal by taking Real Estate Law, Interviewing and Investigating for Paralegals, Current Ethical Issues for Paralegals, Legal Terminology for Paralegals and a Nutrition class thrown in for fun. I must say that I am struggling with the fact that I am 47 years old and wondering when I am done with all of the classes if anyone will hire an old lady!
I could never come home from anywhere and take a nap then get up and work out. Actually, I’m not too good at getting my workouts done if I don’t get them out of the way in the morning. I’ll just send you a check today for the Cheetah shirt.

Barb, So did your bread machine do all of the kneading and you just used the stock pot instead of bread pans? The marathon I signed up for is June 3rd in San Diego. And we’ll see how amazing it turns out to be! I took some time off from running and my diet was fairly bad too so I have about 7 stubborn lbs to lose. My speed is much slower than it was last year at this time but I’m not going to sweat it. I just needed the focus and that’s really the only reason I signed up. Also, I have a dear friend who is overweight and she’s been working at losing some of it and might be walking the marathon. I did tell her that I would walk with her if she signs up. I actually cringe at the thought but I would be so happy if she were to get herself on the path to a healthier lifestyle that I would do it. But just this once!!! LOL! She’s not the most stick-to-it person though so we’ll see how her plan pans out.

Wendy, I see you are deep into P90X. Which rotation are you doing and how do you like it? I have the workouts but have never ever completed a rotation. The feed back I’ve heard about not enough leg work sort of worries me. Are you using the cardio that is included?

Laurie, I gather from your post that things did not work out with Glenn after all and that you are meeting people through personals. How many dates have you had so far? What happened to your ankle? Sorry, I’ve been out of touch for at least a month and I’m a little lost with what’s going on with everyone!

Carole, It’s good to be back! See? You are one of the people who said their legs didn’t fare well after doing a P90X rotation. I think about doing a rotation every now and then with some Cathe legs thrown in. But then I start feeling overwhelmed, wondering how I can do P90X plus Cathe plus run. So my workouts sit there while I feel like I am missing out……

Laura, I’m in there too with needing to lose some weight. It just does not melt away very easily at my age! But the real problem is probably that I don’t like the uncomfortable feeling of being a little bit hungry. LOL! Maybe following a diet would help. Is the Eat Clean Diet the one from the Oxygen Magazine model?

Judy, I see you ended up getting the elliptical rather than that other machine. What sold you on the elliptical? When you were debating between the two I was worried that there was something better than an elliptical!

Gayle! I have not “seen” you in a long time! Are you married now? So sorry for your mother and hoping everything ends up well. Good luck with the 10K tomorrow! I’m a breadaholic too so I should really steer clear of Barb’s recipe until I get rid of these extra 7 lbs I’m sporting.

Sunny, Another P90Xer! Sheesh I really feel like I’m missing out now! I’ve got the workouts so I’ve got no excuses really. I see you’ve got some clients now. Do you still have your other job or are you strictly a personal trainer now. And, excuse me but I’ve not kept up with any of you, did you get that job at the YMCA?

Shelly, I owe belated congratulations on your marathon last month! I did actually look up your time on their website and was impressed. I’ll be running (Or maybe walking. See my note to Barb above) the San Diego RnR marathon. I don’t know how this one is going to go but having something to focus on is the motivation I need right now so it doesn’t really matter. Are you loving your new elliptical?

Whew! I believe that’s everyone for now. Gotta go get some breakfast then workout. Talk to you all later!

Happy Saturday, Cheetahs!! I headed to the Y this morning bright & early. I did 3.75 miles on the TM (intervals from 6mph- 8.5). The intervals seem to help me w/ my knee issues. I could *feel* it a bit towards the end, not pain but that usual twinge of something. Then I hit the pool for about 25 min, and then took an hour pilates class. I think I'm done for the day! ;-)

I did BM2 in it's entirety y'day, I love that workout. I went to get my hair cut in the afternoon, she cut a good 3" off & did some more layers & framing around my face. I really like it & it feels soooo much lighter. Then I hit Wal*mart & Sam's, it was nice to shop ALONE. We just hung out in our warm family room last night, it's so cold out there! Greg's been keeping the fire place going, it feels great down here. We're just hanging out today. Greg & I are going to get the border done in Hannah's room in a bit.

So what's everyone doing for the SuperBowl? We're not big football fans (sorry Carole! ;-) ), but we'll watch the game. Our church is having a potluck service after the morning service, and then later we'll head to my best friend Michelle's house w/ my other best friend (her sister) & other friends. They have a HUGE TV (we're talking like a 64" TV, I think?) w/ stadium seating set up in their basement so it'll be fun. The kids will have fun too. I'm sure there will be lots of junk food so I'd better make something healthy to share!

OK, I've gotta go CleanMax. That's what happens when I leave my dh in charge for a few hours!! LOL The kids have a blast but for some reason they always make a huge mess!! :p

P90x chest and back plus abripperX done!

shelly- pullups, ha:D i used the bands today. i will have to work on the pullups. enjoy your motorcyle ride!!

elaine- no worries, i know life can be hectic. i did not get the YMCA job. they needed someone with more fitness experience. so i am working on it. i am going to take my primary group exercise cert. next month (AFAA). i am not at the full time job. only working at the gym full time now. YEA! enjoy your workout today:)

sunny- thanks!
shelly- never heard of eat to live. were can I get it?
elaine- I heard about the cleaneatdiet here on the forum. I guess oxygen magazine has it in it this month.
do any of you know about barrys bootcamp and if so how do you like the workouts? are they tough?
Just got back from my 3.5 mile run. It was very very cold. I dressed appropriately though so that makes a big difference. The only thing that really got cold on me was my nose. anyway off to take a hot shower !!

Hi Ladies -

Wow! Y’all are chatty Cheetahs today! I’ll TRY to keep up with y’all. I’m still all stuffy from this crud and my throat is a bit sore, but I slept well and I’m feeling a weird mix of energetic and tired. So, I’m going to attempt a Spinerval this morning. Good thing about cycling (as opposed to a Cathe workout) is that you can coast through it (literally). Then it’s off to get the ole nails done and then grocery shopping. No rest for the weary… LOL.

Cathy- NapMax sounds like a good time. I should have indulged, but we went wine tasting last night and then out for Indian food - which I’m sure was sooo healthy for my cold! So, what’s your rotation for Feb? You’re doing fab with your weight loss!!!

Hey Barb! I can’t wait to try the bread recipe! Sorry to hear it’s so cold. You’re pretty incredible for getting out there and running when it’s so cold! I like quinoa. It’s definitely an acquired taste, though. It’s more bitter - even though I rinsed the heck out of it. Oh well… Sounds like your DH and I are on very similar rotations! P90X with a cycling focus. You can scratch the 12k in March for me. DH won’t be here and I didn’t want to do it alone. *shrugs* Glad you had a good time with Kenpo X - I like that workout- it’s very similar to the drills we used to do in Tae Kwon Do and brings back happy memories any time I do it. Which will be Tuesday - hopefully my arm will be better by then!

Wendy - you poor thing! Sounds horrid! Know that I’m your sister in misery, but I did get out of going to the gym with DH- who’s already there! Hope you feel better soon!! Great idea- I think I should whack DH with the silly putty hammer! It’s a huge bruise- hurt to shift which is a problem as my car is standard! Fortunately, I’ll take the SUV shopping today and that’s auto.

Laurie - Hey lady! Good to see you back with us. ShovelMax is quite the cardio and weight work out, so I’ll say you got one. My fingers and toes are crossed for you today!! Have FUN!!! Sorry to hear about your ankle and great job with the diet!! Good to see you back to your old wonderful self!

Carole - My DH is such a pig head at times that I keep a silly putty hammer as a spare. LOL. My arm hurts, but fortunately I can cycle even if kickboxing is out for now. I’ll be fine. Good news about the TV! You don’t get any HD channels without the receiver - the picture quality will only get better. You’ll enjoy it. Well, next time you’re in San Jose, if you want, I’ll take you riding. I know a really good place and their horses are wonderful (although they always put me on the farting one as she’s a little feistier and they know I can handle her- but it is a bit amusing to have her constantly emitting blasts!)

Laura- enjoy (?) your run in the cold! Good for you for being so faithful to your friend.

Judy - I was doing one legged wall squats up against the garage door - and didn’t know that DH had used a cleaner to wipe up a spot on the garage floor and the floor was wet. I went down like one of those cartoon characters and whapped my arm on the desk or a bo of books (not sure which). I have a bruise worthy of show and tell. :+ Fortunately, it’s just a bruise, so I’ll be fine. I am a bit accident prone at times! LOL. Well, you can run with me - I’m 5’10 but slow - I’d be rushing to keep up with you!!!

Gayle - oh don’t you just hate it when the computer deletes your post? Grrr. Sorry to hear about that. Have fun with your swim classes. You’re a good daughter. It’s tough to watch your mom go through that. My mom fell into more of a “this is my time, so I can do what I want” mode which consisted of watching tv and doing word puzzles. I think she would have been with us a little longer if she had gotten out and about more. Good for you to help your mom do that. Chemo is so tough on the body. Good news about the nodules being smaller!! You and she remain in my prayers.

Sunny- soooo, how’d you like C&B? I’m so excited that you’re starting! God for you! Have fun with your clients and good luck getting in the cardio.

Shelly - Great job on BMax 2. I so love that workout! You’re workouts are so inspiring. Enjoy your motorcycle ride. It’s gorgeous here in Cal too, and I wanted to go hiking with the doggies but I’m just not up for it. Maybe tomorrow.

Elaine - must be the crap I have as well. Fun, isnt’ it? I love that you’re out there pushing on anyway. You’re inspiring me!

Jess- so happy to see you running again! Intervals? Wow! There’s a good sign of recovery! *knocks on wood*

Off to get dressed and do my Spinervals workout… Enjoy ladies!

I'm here. I'll read posts and ck in later. Yesterday was LIC, loved it.
I'm passing on running for a few days. Too cold and windy. Way below zero and wind chill of -35 and stuff.
It's Birthday Max for my soon to be 10 year old. He's having a sleepover with 5 friends for his party.
I plan on doing Step Blast to replace a run.
Colleen

I’m back — finished KPC Kicking & Punching premix & the B&G legs overall premix.

Some replies to personals...

Gayle :: I hope this cycle of chemo is better for your mom…I agree with Shelly—she’s lucky to have you there to keep her spirits up. Good luck tomorrow!

Sunny :: it should be there by Monday!!

Laura :: it’s a special issue – not the regular magazine. I bought mine at Border’s. Eat to Live by Joel Fuhrman is also good. I picked it up at Border’s after Judy recommended it last weekend.

Shelly :: great workout…yes, I did receive your check…I mailed out your shirt on Thursday.

Elaine :: I hear you on the one-legged lunges…they are tough for me, too…also the lunges w/out weights – yowzas! I don’t know if I’d survive B&G after a 5-mile run…WTG! I think it’s never too late to pursue new career goals. Congratulations on taking that step! I got into teaching as a second career and when I went back to complete the post-baccalaureate work, there were a lot of others (some much older than me) in the same boat…I can work out after a nap *IF* it is truly a short nap…that’s what last night’s was intended to be. I used to be a morning exerciser, but my current schedule has required more flexibility, so now I just squeeze it in whenever I can – which winds up to be early evening most days except weekends.

Christine :: sounds like a fun night! Hope the crud’s on its way out. Wow! That’s one helluva bruise you wound up with…Thanks on the weight loss. I have my rotation in a weird online calendar thing, but I’ll try to post it later today or tomorrow.

Hi to everyone else! Off to shower & back to work.

Cathy :)

Hey there! Back again.... I'm still using my will power and avoiding a run :) Next week!

Elaine- Great to hear from ya again! So you're doing an RnR marathon? I had such a blast with the Phoenix one although it was amazingly cold! That's nice to say you were impressed with my time... I wasn't! It was only average but the best I could do under the circumstances. Anyway, I had a good time and finished feeling well and that's all that counts. Wow, that would be incredibly nice of you to walk with your friend for 26.2 miles!!! You are going to have such fun. I'm quite a fan of the music marathons now.

Laura- "Eat to Live" is written by Joel Fuhrman, M.D. From your hesitation about dieting and feeling hungry I would highly recommend you check it out. You can find it in any bookstore or a Amazon.com,
etc. To quote from it "when the ratio of nutrients to calories in the food you eat is high, fat melts away, the more nutrient dense food you consume, the more you will be satisfied with fewer calories and the less you will crave fat and high-calorie foods. " I lost 30 lbs a few years ago when I started following these principles and they haven't come back yet! And I LOVE to eat!

Jess- Getting to be a speedy cheetah again there aren't ya! I'm quite impressed. BTW, do you run with an ITband compression wrap?
I hear this can help tremendously.

Christine- I loved your church joke yesterday!! I think a spinervals workout is better than any medicine for knocking out that crud IMHO! Hope you feel better soon and can get to hiking with Tucker!

DH is busy vacuuming the house, bless his heart. He's making me feel guilty so I guess I'll go clean some!

ShellyC

Just a couple more things!:p
Cathy- thanks for the reply! Look forward to getting the T shirt!

Colleen- Don't blame you a bit for passing on the run. You live in chilly Minnesota don't you? Happy B-Day to your son! You are brave to host a sleepover! Have fun with step blast!

ShellyC

shelly- Is this a veggaarian diet? I dont know that I could go without meat all the time. How do you get your protein in?

Hey Cathy - GOT MY T-SHIRTs TODAY!!! They look fabulous!!! Should have gone with medium, but hey, a little big is not a big deal. I really do like it.

Shelly - I'm with you - I think a good temp raising, heart pounding cardio is the best thing to fight a head cold. I feel a lot better now that I did it. And it's fun - but I sooo need to get my bike in for repairs. Good job on using will power today!!

Off to the showers...

Just popping in for a minute....

Laura: Thanks for the push to just get out there tomorrow in the cold temps and do it. I did it Tuesday, so I can do it tomorrow for 7-8 miles (I think?)

here are some book links for Eat To Live and others.

I eat a vegan diet, but don't follow the Eat to Live plan's strictest phase because I eat a lot of whole grain carbs.

But I agree with Shelly, Carole, Judy & others, that it has helped a lot. I first read the Ornish book, then the Mirkin book (which has a very simple plan to follow --high fiber and very, very low fat) .

Each book offers something good. The Volumetrics book is really interesting, the basic gist being: move more and eat more nutrient dense foods as much as possible and you'll lose weight eventually. Maybe you can read the reviews at Amazon and see if any of these would suit you?

1. http://www.amazon.com/Eat-Live-Revo..._bbs_sr_1/103-5648997-2580606?ie=UTF8&s=books

and another book called Volumetrics, by Barbara Rolls -- some similar ideas but it includes animal protein. Rolls way of eating would be like a stepping stone to more radical changes that Fuhrman talks about:

2. http://www.amazon.com/Volumetrics-E..._bbs_sr_1/103-5648997-2580606?ie=UTF8&s=books

3. and this one by Dean Ornish--similar recommendations, but allows fish and some fat
http://www.amazon.com/Eat-More-Weig..._bbs_sr_3/103-5648997-2580606?ie=UTF8&s=books

4. and this one by Gabe Mirkin -- way less fat

Carole -- I have a lot of whole grain bread recipes and bread machine cook book references...I love the bread machine for making the dough and then baking it in a real oven. Is this a new bread machine to replace an old one or a new, new one? I make bread a lot. Thanks for the tip on the elliptical pedals. Good point on the lower one -- maybe it would work..

Wendy-- apparently I can't read?? I thought I read yesterday that you did MIC. Too funny. You are no wimp!

Cathy--I got the t-shirt. Thank you!

Hope to be back later or tomorrow for more chatting.....gotta' run

-Barb
:)

Barb ~ Thanks for that recipe! Looks interesting! I love bread, but I have to limit myself because I'll eat way too much of it! Former bread (carbo) holic here!!

Have a good day!

Hey Shelly! You're doing great w/ the no running. It's hard, but you'll be glad you rested up. I don't know about speedy again, but I'm working on it. It's been hard not kicking it up when I'm on the TM, I'd rather run it fast & get it over with!! ;-) I love doing intervals though, it makes it go by so much faster. I was pretty much alone on the TM at the Y for a good 20 min, then people started to sleepily trickle in. :)

I don't have an IT band strap, but I'm going to look into them to see if it will help. Anything that will help me run more regularly would be fine w/ me!!

Awww, what a sweetie. My dh knows better than to try to use the vacuum, he won't do it up to my standards!! :p Have a good one!

Hey Cathy! Now I'm excited to get my t-shirt!! Thanks again for putting it all together, Ms. Organized!! I hope you enjoyed your kickboxing today, it's COLD here so I can see why you wouldn't want to get out in it! If you fell asleep on the couch, you defintely needed your rest! And wanted to say great job on the weight loss!! You're doing great on the challenge. Good luck w/ your next rotation!

OK, I have a little time to kill now. I got some cleaning done, and we got the border up in Hannah's room. It looks *finished* now & turned out soooo nice. I'm so glad it's done too!! ;-)

The girls & Greg are watching SpongeBob & we're enjoying the nice warm fire. I'm making taco soup for dinner, it sounded good on a nice chilly day!

Fighting off a little headache (but nothing like the migraine from the other day! ). I don't know what the deal is lately, could have been TTOM (I finally figured it out- That time of month, I thought it was time of *the* month- duh!!). Anyway, I am sick of headaches! (but I don't let them slow me down for long!)

Hope you're all having a nice day!
