<<<<< CHEETAHS >>>>> Sat., 2/17

Hi everyone,

I ended up walking mostly on the treadmill lastnight. I just didnt have it in me to run for some reason. I walked however an hour on an incline, backwards, and with a few sprints but not long ones.I dont know if it was from all the crap I ate at ryans yesterday but I literally didnt have the energy to run.I also did upper body wts on my own afterwards.

Have any of you experienced at times no desire to do races? I am finding that I dont want to train for any which I usually do the half in cleveland come may and I have no desire. I dont know why . I still love to run but I dont feel like doing any 5ks or half marathons right now. I dont know if it is because I am teaching classes now and I have to put alot into them . I hope I will eventually get that itch to do the 5ks at least back again. I figure its okay to take a break and not worry about it but I keep thinking that maybe I might lose all that I worked so hard to accomplish with prior training.

today is a busy day,. I worked first thing this morning. My son had a soccer game. Had to drop my daughter off at her friends, my brother is having a b-day party for his daughter that we have to go to and my friend from out of town is coming tonight and wants to get together.

talk with you all later!

Laurie—enjoy your trip today and (((((mega good vibes))))) to Faith for the competition.
You’re lucky to have a spicy food compadre in the house!

Gayle-thanks for the race update. That’s a smart idea to make your long run that day a race. You get the award for most Non-OCD Cheetah for spontaneously doing your long run off a scheduled day. That’s very cool! Bring on the soup recipe.

Carole—that cake definitely looked like it was worth indulging. How sweet, too, of the hairdresser's mom to make it. Have fun with KPC and legs.

Shelley—Well better to be looking for a date to run a half than looking for a parking spot somewhere (how’s that for the random thought of the day?) Great job on your interval run. I confess that I enjoy watching an Imax or another tape while running on the TM .
About the interval speed: I think if it’s fast enough isn’t just the speed on the TM, but it depends on where you want to be with your HR and like Judy said, your Perceived level of exertion. Carole may be able to help you more on this in terms of HR. I think you want to be above 80% during an interval -- is this right, Carole?
Also, there are some pace calculators at runnersworld.com that can give you estimates of speeds for different types of runs.

Judy—I will often work out to procrastinate cleaning, so we have a yin-yang thing going. Good job on your iMax workout and it getting easier for you.

Jess- Yahoo for you! Glad Kiersten’s feeling better.

Christine—glad you had fun at the Tennis match. How cool is that to be in the skybox? Your weather sounds great. I hope you get to do a hike. It sounds like a fun day planned.

-Barb

I found this info--I think it's interesting...
I probably have been doing my interval runs at more of a Tempo Run pace for me.

http://www.runnersworld.co.uk/news/article.asp?UAN=176

Sample Sessions:
0. 60% Recovery run - dead slow. It may feel biomechanically odd at first, but it's important. 30-40 minutes.
0. 60-70% Long, slow runs - up to 65% the body is teaching itself to burn fat as fuel (useful for marathons). Anything from 1-3hrs.
0. 70-85% Fartlek - speedplay (moderate-paced runs with random fast bursts). 30-60 minutes
0. 70-85% Undulating route - peak at 85% on the climbs. 30-90 minutes
0. 85% Anaerobic threshold run (or 'tempo run') - this teaches your body to run hard for long periods. Approximately 10-mile to half-marathon race pace. Sample session: 1.5 miles at 60%, then 15-20 mins at exactly 85%, then 1.5 miles at 60%.
0. 85-90% Approx 5K-10K pace. Sample sessions: 6 x 800m peaking at 90% in each rep; 5 x 2000m peaking at 85% in each rep.
95% Peak heart rate at 400m rep pace (not full-out race pace). Sample session: 12 x 400m with 200m jog recoveries, making sure recovery heart rate drops to at least 70%.

Happy Saturday!

Looks like it will be a beautiful day here in sunny California. I’m going to get out there and wash my big rig. Although after I attempt Judy’s UB mish mosh, I may not be able to even wash the dishes! LOL. I bailed on my early morning 4 miles with my running buddy since I had a HUGE sinus headache. After taking something and resting, I’m better so I’ll end up getting that run in on the dreadmill most likely.

Cathy – I PM’d you the other day in response to the shirts, so I don’t know what happened. My new email address is [email protected] maybe try that instead of the PMing. I’ll will take 2 if we need to get 6 for the order, otherwise I’ll take 1 if shelly limecat wants one. I LOVE spa getaways so I wouldn’t need much convincing. Also, Sacramento to Phoenix is usually a good route to find specials on a fare for Southwest Airlines. It sounds like your day is going better today; that’s good!

Judy – THANK YOU for posting the UB workout. Can’t wait to torture myself with it! Good job with IMAX 3!! Also, your post the other day about spinach salad and pine nuts got craving a good spinach salad. I ended up paying a fortune for some pine nuts but were they ever scrumptious in that salad. This was the first time I ate spinach since the big spinach scare awhile back. Our spinach comes from the farm in San Luis Obispo that was the source of e coli so I was nervous to eat it for a bit. I love fresh spinach!!

Sunny – Yay! I saw that! I’ve always liked my birthday being on the 1st. That way I can tell everyone that I’m number one! LOL Good job on the clients!

ShellyC – I don’t have a hard time deciding to have a rest day. LOL I’m the lazy cheetah. No, sometimes I’m just too dang tired to workout and am forced into a rest day. Enjoy your sort of rest day!

Barb – Thanks for posting the run list. Although I am the Shrek donkey with cheetah spots, here are my planned events in case you want to add me:

April 28 – ½ marathon Nashville
June 3 – marathon San Diego (same one as our super cheetah Elaine)
Sept 2 – ½ marathon Virginia Beach
Oct 14 – ½ marathon San Jose

Karen – Enjoy your rest day. I have a longer run planned for tomorrow as well; only 9 miles though.

Laurie – GOOD LUCK TO MISS FAITH!!! sending her my cheeriest cheer vibes!! Also, congrats on your clean eating success and weight loss!

Wendy – Have fun with your family party in upstate NY. Lots of snow for Joey to play in. LOL

Carole – I love carrot cake! And veggie pizza….FOOD!! I love food! lol. Hope your birthday date turns out to be swell this evening!!

Shelley! - WELCOME!! It doesn’t matter how fast or far you run to be one of the cheetahs. Just look at me. Although I can run for miles and miles at a time, I’m probably the slowest cheetah here. I’m actually compared to the Shrek donkey but with cheetah spots…lol. I love your DD’s name for the dreadmill. I think I’ll start calling mine the tready. Keep checkin’ in here. You’ll find lots of valuable running info here as there are quite a few knowledgeable about running cheetahs here.

Hi Jess ! – Glad you are able to run again. Good idea to take it easy at first. IT’s are known to be aggravated from jumping back into running at a fast pace too soon after a break. As much as this warm sunny weather is beautiful, I have to say I wish we were having snow today! I’m having snow withdrawal!! LOL Have fun sorting toys. I used to sort the toys with my kids when they were younger and then let them choose what they would like to donate to the kids that didn’t have any (we had a program here to donate to for this cause). I’ll tell ya, every now and then, they still think of kids that aren’t as fortunate as them and want to donate “something” to help.

Christine – LOL – Ya, I’m sooo in myself for a spa vacation. Been spoiled by them once and never have been able to say no again! LOL Have a great hike today in the spring like weather. Although I wish it would snow here….

Gayle – have fun with the boys tubing. I love to do that! Your soup does sound YUMMO! please do post your recipe.

Susan – Enjoy your day with the girls. Mine used to love polly pockets and especially my lil’ pony. that was 10 years ago though! lol. One of them (the horse girl) still loves my lil pony and her brother actually bought her a my lil pony waste basket for her room at christmas. SO fun.

Laura – Sometimes I just feel like walking too. I then I do just that at a swift pace. Sounds like your day is very busy, but enjoy the party and guests.

Hi Elaine if you come on later!!! And happy to hear your PF is better. Are you traveling to San Diego with your family for the marathon?

Ok, I hope that’s everyone.

Have a great day cheetahs!!

Thomasina :7

My kids have friends over and are enjoying the snow.

Susan—I didn’t get an EXT yet. We are waiting for some time to go try some out at a store. Also, we have this low-ceiling problem and I’m not sure if it can be an option for us. Have a fun day in the sun today.

Laura—I walk on the TM and enjoy it. I like my runs. But I like walking, too.
You have a busy day with kids and family today! I find I can only focus on one or two things at a time – like my head has to be clear to feel like I am giving something “my all.”

Thomasina—thanks for your race dates. You are a busy Cheetah. Good for you! So 9 miles for you is “only 9 miles?” I am hoping to eek out 8ish. I am finding myself unmotivated with the snow & dark. I will mail you some snow and then you can put it on your counter and declare yourself a “snow day.”

New Race List with Thomasina's added:

• Karen-10 mile race Mar. 25

Have a great rest of the Saturday.

:)

I’m back!

We had a lovely hike! Took both dogs, so we couldn’t go too far, but as DH was a bit tired, that was fine. I enjoyed the change of pace, although if it’s nice on Monday, I’m taking WonderMutt (aka Tucker) and doing an 8 mile trail run after my weight workout. We then went into Saratoga and split a bagel with cream cheese, lox, cucumber, sprouts and tomatoes and a glass of wine and just people watched (an excellent place for it!). Now we’re showered and back and all relaxed.

Gayle – have fun snow tubing! I have a blast with that! Your soup sounds fabulous!

Susan – oh, how fun! A picnic in the park! It’s IS gorgeous today, isn’t it?

Laura – I’m not really signed up for any real races right now. I’m going to do the 10.6 mile walk/run at Big Sur, but that’s about it. I’m just enjoying being able to do whatever it is I want to do. I run some, bike some, step some… Can’t do that as much when you’re training, so I say enjoy yourself and don’t worry about a race. When you want to race, you will.

Barb – It has been a fun day, but I think I need a siesta… Come on over, we’ll go hiking together! Thanks for the info on running!

Sunny – Enjoy your evening with DH. And I hope your In-Home training business grows!!

Thomasina – Wow – attempting to wash your rig after doing the dreaded Judy Upper Body Mish Mosh? I’m impressed! And today I’m just as happy that it doesn’t snow here, but my mind my change again one day!

Have a fabulous day everyone!!!

Oh, man! I got NOTHING accomplished today. I knocked out for a three-hour nap (!!) and woke up kinda groggy and disoriented. I just did the Bar Method Designer Sculpting DVD, and I think I’m gonna call it a night at that. I will begin writing one of my two papers shortly. (It’s due tomorrow.)

But first a cheetah fix… :)

Barb :: I missed your post about Canyon Ranch…something like that would be AWESOME! But I wonder if it’s affordable…it was just a thought to toss out there…I was thinking massages and yoga and clean eating and cheetahs against the backdrop of the desert or mountains would make for a very cool getaway!…Thanks for those additional links…I need to bookmark and pore over them.

Laurie :: how rewarding to have others notice your hard work…rock on! :) Fingers crossed that Faith’s team did well at the competition!! I will shoot out an email to ya in the next day or so.

Wendy :: thanks for posting the mish-mosh…I only have KPC and KM, so I’ll have to forgo that one. :(

Shelley :: welcome!!! :) I’m sure you’ll find something as spring/summer rolls around and the race calendars beef up some. When I do intervals on the dreadmill (that’s what I call it :) as I prefer to run outside), I don’t really pay that much mind to that exact speed…I just crank it up so that I’m pushing an all-out sprint for the full minute, and like Judy said, I’m spent by the end of it.

Carole :: I bagged on k’boxing – I’ve been all over the place with my workouts this week. Next week, I intend to stick to my rotation. With another weigh-in coming up soon, I better buckle down!! 74!!! Wow! Lucky CA cheetahs! I think I’m going to do a matinee with my mom tomorrow – Music & Lyrics…I’m already looking forward to the popcorn…no butter, of course!

Judy :: great job with Imax3. Sounds like you’re really enjoying your Polar – me, too. I can’t wait until the Sally Edwards HR training book gets here, but it’ll take awhile – middle of March or so. I’ve been a shopping fiend lately.

Jess :: Woo-hoo on the pain-free 3-miler!! The steady pace can be boring, but you’re playing it smart. Good for you!

Christine :: Do you have any ballpark idea what one of the spas out West would run us for a weekend? Yeah, I have ordered from Collage before & have had good experiences with them. I better put the brakes on my fitness splurges, though (confession to come shortly)…Mmm, that bagel sounded TASTY!

Gayle :: the snow tubing sounds like a blast! I’ve always wanted to try that. Where did you go – Blue Mountain?

Thomasina :: sorry about your headache ~ did the meds kick in? I did get your PM that you were willing to spring for a second shirt if need be, but I just wanted to check if one of you was more gung-ho about having two. Yes, I am having a better day…I do believe the meds I am on have been affecting my mood, so I am going to have to keep that in check.

Susan :: Good job restraining yourself at Chevy’s…I have had nothing but sloth time today…tonight & tomorrow will actually be WRITING papers (student mode) and then tomorrow after the movie, I’m going to tackle my grading pile (teacher mode)…it’s GOTTA get done this weekend…How are you feeling, by the way? This week was rough for you…

Laura :: I started running again last March after a hiatus of several years…since then, I have only done one 5K, and I have to say, I don’t have a burning desire to race like I used to…I’m sure I will do some later in the spring and summer, but I do think it’s perfectly normal to take a break from it once in a while…BTW, I liked the Designer Sculpting DVD better than Fat Free – I felt the burn more with this one. My initial reaction to this method? I like the moves – they are different than what I am used to and some I feel more than others – but I think Cathe has us so well-trained that I would prefer to have more reps, more burn. Both DVDs go quickly, though.

OK, here is my impulsive shopper's confession...I received my income tax returns today, so instead of waiting as I said I would, I went ahead and ordered FLUIDITY!!!

Cathy :)

Hi everyone. I had a busy day shopping. I swear I love Target for clearance. There global bazzar is on sale and I bought the most beautiful buddah. I also got a georgous sculpture of a mother and child holding hands. No faces, just bodies with heads and limbs and hands. It looks hand carved. Anyway my long run tomorrow is going to be 9 miles and then I will do 5 miles on my Sunday long next week, and then it's 10, 10, 11, and then the 10 Miler. However my dh is still working weekends and I'm on the treadmill again. I'm kind of getting use to it.

I also got new flip flops today. I know it's early but they looked egyptian, with gold, and amber stones in the center. I love them. Plus they were only 4.99. How could I leave them.

Forgot to tell you Cheetahs - all this talk about pp/ss and the killer workouts prompted me to purchase this from eBay - got it for $21.87 (which includes shipping!!). So I'm stoked!

Cathy - another Cheetah buying things!

cathy- gave in huh? I am trying to hold out and see what results I get with the barre method. good that you like the other workout better. people have really talked those workouts up so I am hoping to get some results with them. lunges, squats and all that isnt getting the job done in those areas so I am keeping my fingers crossed that these simple exercises will do the trick.

I received my tae bo get ripped advanced workouts today from ebay. I am going to do one tonight and see how I like them. I am kind of excited as I have been wanting new kickboxing workouts and I just cant really get into turbo jam too much, so Hopeully I will like them.

talk with you all later!

I just finished tae bo get ripped advanced workout 1 and itkicked my butt. thats what I like about a kickboxing workout. I think this workout will give me good results!! and the time flys too.

thanks to all of you in reguards to not worrying about doing any of the races. I always worry that it will affect my performance later if I dont keep at it. your right though, sometimes you need to just take a break. I think I will enjoy them more later by doing so.

thanks!
