>>>>> CHEETAHS <<<<< MLK Monday, 1/15

Hi Cheetahs-

Jes- more sickness. I am sorry.

Susan- I am sorry too about your back. You will always be a cheetah to us!

Cathy- I think joining Cathe's gym is a marvelous choice!

Wendy- just when we have out week planned; it changes! so true!
Hi Carole and Christine!

Yes, I am anxious to read sbout Shelly too.

OK. the tempo run (2 days ago) followed by KM leg cond drills and yoga, gave me no DOMS y'day, BUT, Today I did speed intervals with cardio coach for 6 miles. I have IOMS I=instant! in my upper glutes. ouchie! I even tried to keep my legs active for a few hours after the run by cleanning, but I had to drive a friend's kid home this morning. And that was enough to tighten me right up. No time for yoga but I did stretch holding all stretches 30 seconds.

I must have missed Shelly's race. What race did she do and which Shelley??

Cathy- Yes, I'm in Perryville. We are neighbors. I'm going to have to drive up your way and go to class with you one day this summer.

Today I have been looking at my schedule of races. Maybe we could make a post somehow of who is doing what and when. Is that possible? Do you think anyone would mind? Then when we need to update our races it could just get bumped to the top again. I love knowing who and when to cheer. Plus it feels good to know others are with your in the morning running at the same time. What are anyone thoughts before i do it.

Christine :: thanks for the sharing the article. Interesting read! And it does make sense. Toward the end of the article, I thought of Susan. Wonder what you'll do with that info, Susan!

Judy :: IOMS - too funny! Well, not really. But I know that feeling. I think I had it today doing a nonstop plie squat-whoo! Hope you can get loose again!

Karen :: Oh, OK. Yes, I know the outlets right there. I'm not all that close to Delaware - more outside of Philly, but still, not so far away. A summer class sounds like a good plan! :) That'd be fun.

OK, I think it'll be an early dinner for me. I'm ravenous. PMS week means a battle of the appetite--grr!!

Will probably be back later.
Cathy :)

For any cheetah who hasn't voted on the t-shirt saying, please do!

Holy Cow! Those push up bars definately helped the wrists but man oh man did they make the push ups harder to do! I have better range of motion when I don't use them. I may alternate thier use from week to week. I feel like I cheated all of my reps today because I couldn't go down as far. I will definately have to work on this! }( Okay, so I think I can safely assume that my upper body will be rendered USELESS tomorrow...I hope I can lift DS out of his crib in the morning. DOH!

I can't figure out how to use a chair in the manner that the X does for assisted pull ups w/o toppling it! I have to put my foot lower on the back of the chair cause if I use the top of it then it goes over almost instantly! I am thinking it's because I am a weakling and am forced to put too much of my weight on it. Say it isn't so!;(

I decided to do HSCh ab work in lieu of ARX. I will hit ARX again next time. I am just now realizing that apparently every work out that you do w/ARX has ARX on the same disc so that you don't have to change anything! I changed the discs last week...I had no idea! LOL DUH! :p

Okay, time for a shower. I hope to have time for coffee and personals afterwards.

TTYS!:7

Hello Cheetahs! This will have to be a quick post because I still have so much work to finish before I can leave work and pick up the kiddos. I have so much catching up to do, but unfortunately no time to do it. Thursday I had to pick DD up from daycare at 11. She was running 103.8 temperature, but she had no other side effects other than wanting to be held the whole time. By that night she was fine, but due to daycare rules I could not take her back there on Friday. So DH and I each had to take 1/2 day off work to keep her at home, since we both had to work some on Friday. DS so far has not caught anything. Let's hope it stays that way.

Sunday I ran 2 miles. It was a test run on my hurt calf. It seems to be doing okay, still sore though. I might up my mileage a little to 3 miles on Tuesday and see how I do. This week I plan to not run very often, maybe 2-3 days, but focus on my weight workouts.

Anyway, today was PUB/PLB up bonus combo along with LIC Abs.

Sorry this is so short. I'll try to catch up later. Have a great day!

Cathy...you lucky girl!! getting to take a kickboxing class at Cathe's...it would be funny to be a buff guy hootin and hollering!! Sorry about the dryer...I always hated going to the laundromat...GO FOR IT!!! Join Cathe's gym!!! I did check out Shelly's site and I do know she finished and her time, but I will not spoil it for her...:)

Susan...I am always off on Mondays, being self employed has its perks...:)...My sister did let me know if we had run the relay, we would have most likely got 1st place...:)...sorry your back isn't 100%...in time it should be.

Jess...sorry about Kiersten being sick again...poor little girl..enjoy your spin class tonight. I will have to try that some time...

Christine...not many Pat fans in this area. I am happy for your DH though! I like that premix on BM2...yes, I did notice the scores being the same with those games, this season has been on of the bizarrest ones IMO. I can't wait for next week to see who will be going to the SB! And hopefully...ALOT less turnovers!

Karen...that sounds like a great price on the Precor Elliptical. Have fun at Target.

Judy..you have me cracking up with the IOMS!!!

Wendy...good job with the push up bars....DOMS could be on the way! Can't help much with the chair...I use a step for my assisted pull-ups...

Kristi...I hope your DS avoids a bug...sorry your calf is still tender. Try any self massage? Sounds like a good workout.

I did S&H back, planks and abs and a 45 min iTread this morning. I will do a circuit this afternoon with S&H chest alternating with 5 min between sets on my Elliptical...

K, I'm showered and have coffee in hand...now let's see what we can do about some personals before cheetah jr. starts growling from his den!;)

Carole: Now you are starting to sound like Shelley with the monster double work outs!:+ I tried using the high step for the pull ups but I prefer the chair because it's a little taller. I am a shortie so if my assistance is not a certain height it's of no assistance at all! LOL

LD: Hope you had a nice day with DH and DS! As for the shirt, I was thinking a black top with white printing or white top with black printing that way it would match everything! Lots seem to like the silly cheetah graphic but I am leaning towards the more serious one myself. :)

Cathy: You are sooo lucky that you had the opp. to go to a live Cathe class! That had to be sooo cool! I can't wait for her to have another roadtrip! Do you think you would attend?? So what's on the menu for tonight's dinner? :9 I think joining the gym is a fab idea! $40 per month is totally normal. Is there a start up fee?? When I joined my gym I paid a $200 start up fee and about $35 per month once you included that new tax they put on it. When I signed up DH I paid $130-$140 start up fee and the dues are $40 per month including the tax. I had looked at 4 gyms when I decided to join one...one was waaay more expensive and the other 2 were cheaper but you could see WHY they were cheaper-ACK! LOL

Susan: Don't fret my friend...I think most of us would have done exactly what you did and tried a higher impact work out once we were feeling better. You'll get better. I know it's hard to deal with an injury but in time it will work itself out and you'll be back in top running form!:+ I am LOVING P90X! Just LOVING it! I really wasn't sure how I'd take to the program but I think the weight work outs are TOP NOTCH! I am adding 1 cardio per week and will be varying it a bit in order to include running as well as get my class at the gym in but all in all...I think I'm in love....:p Now, 90 days is a LOOONG time to stick with a rotation so I may get cranky over that cause I want a change but that's just my personality and has no bearing on the program. YIKES, chased by a dog at 6 months pregnant!? How awful! Did the dog actually BITE you?? SCAREY!!!!

Jess: Poor Kiersten! ((((GET WELL HUGS)))coming her way! Our copay is $20 as well plus extra if DS gets shots. They charge $1.00 extra per shot for some reason. I had to pay a $21.00 copay today just to get DS his flu shot!!! ACK!x( Then I had to sign a paper stating that some insurances will not cover the flu shots...WHAT!?!?! That's cr@p if you ask me! Cover the friggin shot so that you don't have to cover the dr/med bills when the person GETS the flu! DUH!x( Okay...rant over!;)

Christine: For the record, I love downward dog too!:+ Although sometimes at first when the blood is rushing to my head it actually can make my face HURT and that is uncomfortable! That doesn't last long though. Joey is fine on his meds. He takes them with no problem and is having no issues at all with anything they mentioned the meds might cause. YEAY!:)

Karen: So what did you buy at Target??? }( Wheat Thins!!!:7 :7 :7 How's your business venture going, btw?

Judy: IMOS...I love that! LOL I had that with KenpoX the other day! Hurts so good!}(

Kristi: I hope you don't have to stay at work too late. Good job on the 2 mile run. I'm glad the calf was OKAY. Hopefully you will be able to do the 3 miles w/o any problems as well!:)

Okay...I think I am caught up on personals and I haven't heard a sound from the "den"...I must go wake the cheetah cub as if he sleeps too late he will not want to sleep tonight!

I'll be back later I hope!:)

Wendy :: the P90X talk might as well be in Greek—I understand nothing of it! So, don’t think I’m uninterested, I just have no idea what’s going on…*lol* Welcome to my world. What *is* the road trip exactly? A bunch of Cathe-ites make a road trip to S. Jersey and work out with her? If that’s it, then sure, I’d do it (as long it works with my schedule, natch). I ate pancakes for dinner. Had cereal for lunch. I know – I’m weird – I sometimes eat foods at the “wrong” time. I think there is a startup fee…it’s normally $99, but I’m pretty sure there’s a special right now. Will check into that.

Kristi :: sorry you’ve a got sick little one…fingers crossed your son stays healthy. Hmm, that calf is still troublesome…Have you ever tried The Stick? You can find it on amazon or roadrunnersports or maybe in your local running specialty store…It’s a self-massage tool and is really great for getting deep in there and working the muscles. I have had calf problems in the past and find that it helps. I don’t know where your pain is localized, but you might also find it helpful to look into trigger points…You can get some info here: http://www.triggerpointbook.com/plantarf.htm

Carole :: ugh! You’re holding out on us! ;-) :) I understand, of course. Hope our Trooper decides to post soon! OK, you all have enabled me…I will join! :) That guy really made the workout more fun…It was a real interesting mix of people overall. I’d say about 25-30 people.
Wow! You would’ve taken first, eh? It’s too bad you guys had to bag it!

BTW, I hope no one feels like I’m harassing you about voting on the shirts…*lol*…I just wanted to catch anyone’s attention who might be lurking or hasn’t been up on the posts from the last few days!

Hello dear cheetahfriends! Well, I had a very interesting first marathon experience! Not at all what I anticipated when I first started preparing for this a year ago! But then again, I was uninjured then! Anyway, I anticipated my time would be a slow one but I figured I could finish at least. I have been running with pain since last August. It never went away really, just became tolerable and it continued to improve slowly. I was hoping I could maintain a pace that would get me a time around 4:30 but after the first mile I knew that was not to be. I had to keep the pace around 11:00 to keep the pain under control and not cripple myself! The good aspect of this was that it made for a very comfortable marathon at least in terms of my perceived level of exertion. I was quite comfortable even at mile 25. I maintained my slow but steady running pace all the way through and passed quite a few people in the last few miles who were walking or shuffling. Anyway, my chip time ended up at 4:52 and I'm quite content with that considering. I did finish smiling:)
Besides dealing with the pain it was also remarkably COLD! The out of state runners from the east were saying it was warmer back home!
The starting temp was 29 degrees. I couldn't feel my feet for the first 8 miles which was just as well because I'm also dealing with a stress fracture of my L first metatarsal x(
The race itself was very well organized and a lot of fun. The music was great and the crowd support awesome! If anyone is thinking of this race in the future I highly recommend it!
BTW- I will run another marathon. I'd like to see how well I can do when not limited by injuries! I won't be much of a cheetah the next month since I will finally give these injuries a chance to heal! I'll be doing plenty of cross training though, you can bet... you can't keep this Shelly down for long!!!!
Thank you for all your good wishes. Keep running y'all.... it's worth it..... really!

Also, in case anyone is worried or wondering. Today I'm really feelin okay. Sore, where you'd expect but not overly so since I didn't push it.

ShellyC

Cathy- I just voted in your poll. I wanted to add quickly here that I think you are beyond terrific in doing this!!!! What a fantastic idea.... definitely count me in!

It was hard choosing! I really liked them all!!!!

ShellyC

Shelly C- I'm so proud of you. You did awesome, great, fantatic, fabulous. Anything else. Yes, YOU DID IT!!!!! I loved hearing your story. Heck, I can't wait to have a story to tell about my marathon experience. I'm so happy for you.

Wendy- I acutualy bought two men's dri fit running shirts for myslef on clearence for 4 and 6 bucks. Who cares if there men's. They were cheap. My business venture ended as quick as it started. It was not for me. Business and famly don't mix. I love my sister but she is not a Type A personality like me. I needed things done, she didn't care when things got done and all the complaints came my way. We ended on a good note. I told her it was to much with homeschooling and I had to back out. Beside I can't stand her husband. LOL

Shelly :: thanks for the race report! We've been waiting anxiously. Congrats to you on your solid finish despite the pain!!!! WOW! Finishing a marathon in and of itself is a tremendous accomplishment, but battling injury & cold and still managing to cross the finish with a smile on your face says so much about what a "trooper" you really are! WTG, cheetah! You rock!!! Now, enjoy a well-deserved rest and may the road to recovery be a swift one!

Cathy :)

Thank you so much Cathy and Karen! Even though I was satisfied with the results I was feeling just a tad dissapointed I couldn't have run it a little faster. You've made me feel much better!
God bless you!

ShellyC

Shelly,
Hell, think of all the people -- both fit and non-fit -- who will never even ATTEMPT to conquer the marathon. You should feel PROUD!! No doubt you will have a PR next time around.

Cathy :)

A special note to Elaine-

I'm so sorry you've been struggling lately! I consider you to be an incredible role model and inspiration so I guess it just goes to show you that we are all only human afterall! I do hope that if you continue to battle with this depression that you will consider therapy.

Wishing you only the best!

ShellyC

PS---- A note for Carole

I see that your relay was cancelled!!! How dissapointed you must have been but as usual you took it in stride! Your attitude is always so calm and accepting! I thought of you alot after my marathon. I said to myself.... "Carole wouldn't feel bad about this!" It made me feel better!!! THANK YOU :)

Just as an FYI - the last two (I promise!) t-shirt polls have gone up (for graphic and color choice). Please check it out when you get a chance.

WAY TO GO SHELLY!!!! I don't know why, but I was convinced you had run a marathon before!! Several times I almost asked you, but I thought I'd look really, really stupid. Now I feel stupid for not asking. You did FABULOUS!!! How many people can RUN their first marathon and say that they finished with a smile and are not too bad the next day? I'm so darned impressed!!! God speed in the healing process. I did "peek" to see your results. I just so darned proud of you! *Does Happy Dance with Shelly - and is careful not to step on hurt foot*

I am SOOOOO excited! My hubby just purchased my my own Nordic Track cx 1050 elliptical and he even got free shipping for it. It usually cost 900.00 and it was on sale for 650 and free shipping. I am so looking forward to not having to go to the gym all the time now, YIPEE!!!!! He could tell that I was feeling blue about my workouts and what I want to do is do like a circuit/interval training with it, doing 5 minutes on elliptical and then 5 minutes of Cathe and so on... I an just so exctied. I just get it in about a week, YAY!!!! Just had to share.
