Judy :: so great that you heard from Barb. I miss her! I get tightness in that area, too, but only on my left leg. Since I haven't been running much this winter, it's been behaving. But it is interesting because that is the same side I had AT on...think the biomechanics are off there or something. I had trouble turning left when I ski, and after I had a cant strip placed under one of my bindings (supposed to compensate for a leg imbalance), things improved dramatically. I should probably consider custom orthotics at some point. Anywho, I hope you can keep your pain at bay. Running is so hard on our bodies. We have to keep careful watch. ETA: Wii Fit is a Wii game that's coming out in May. It will come with a balance board and will include games as well as workouts (e.g. aerobics, yoga, etc.)
Christine :: yes, he does have a smokin' bod, doesn't he? I was admiring his posterior region myself.
I'm a little befuddled by the marked contrast in the advice, but I'm goin' with the woman who tore me apart a little more. She wrote a book on NB, so she's the guru! :7 How funny that Tucker decimated the court order! I think they are way smarter than humans give them credit for.
OK, so I did one of the workouts on
Kettlebell Goddess this morning, so here's my review.
Stop reading now if you don't give a fiddler's fart about kettlebells. As mentioned, Andrea DuCane, the lead instructor, does not have much personality. She's no-nonsense, but as Christine said, she does give good form pointers. Not a babbler at all. In fact, there's not even any music, so all you listen to is Andrea's snorting. Seriously. She's all about the breathing. That being said, I did not find this to be distracting or annoying, but I would probably add my own music in the background. There are 6 different workouts on this DVD plus drills.
1) Artemis: UB - 26 min.
2) Athena: FB Strength (this is the one I did)- 35 min.
3) Auxesia: Abs/Core - 23 min.
4) Callipygas: Lower Body - 28 min.
5) Nike: Cardio & Endurance - 23 min.
6) Odyne: Strength & Cardio Kickbutt - 26 min.
Athena starts with joint/mobility stretches as a warmup. The exercises that follow are:
Military Press
Squats (how DO they go so low??)
Lat Pulls (rows)
One-Legged Deadlifts
Clean, Press, and Overhead Squats (this squat is TOUGH for me! I really feel it in my back in that, uh, unfortunate muffin
area)
Snatches - 15 each arm
Standing Power Breathing (this is for abs--interesting--I sorta got the hang of it and did feel it somewhat)
Cool-down Stretch (approx. 6 min)
You do 3-4 sets for each exercise, 4-6 reps per set. There are three exercisers, one of whom is always using 1 kb; at least one other person uses two kbs. So all in all, this is a versatile DVD. Based upon what I've seen in Providence, I think Anthony's AoS series is probably tops. But I consider this a good addition the rotation, esp. since it was one of the less expensive kb workouts and you get so many options.
ETA:
Wendy :: Ya snuck in on me there, girl. IA w/ DH--GH3 is a must! I hadn't heard of that Mahler guy, but I can't buy any more KB DVDs for now. I still have 3 on the way.
Yeah, I have a problem.
