Cathe's Videos and DVDs on Sale in the UK

Hi Cathe,

I live in Bristol, England and I recently ordered your Classics Volume 1 DVD. Firstly, I must say that it's definitely the best step DVD or Video that I've ever come across! I was thoroughly enjoying the Step Jam but unfortunately, three-quarters of the way through, the DVD is corrupted and freezes. It will not play properly again until half way through Step Max (thus missing all of Step Heat). This is particularly annoying in that, being in England, I will lose the shipping charge of $24.00 and also the import charges of $30.00, if I send it back to you for replacement! :-( I'm really tempted to get another of your DVDs but when you add the import and shipping charges, they end up costing the equivalent of almost $95.00 each and I just can't afford it (particularly having been burned slightly by the first DVD being corrupted)! Anyway, my question is whether you are considering having some sort of outlet for your exercise DVDs/Videos anywhere in the UK?

Hi!

Not Cathe here, but I believe if you look in her customer service section you can address all problems there. Also, know that when I've gotten deffective tapes they send me a new one without my having to send the defective one back. Don't know how they would work it to England, but my experience with SNM customer service has always been outstanding.

Here's the link.

Hope it works!

:)

I've read that the DVD's are guaranteed for life, so contact customer service for a replacement and that means they should pay the shipping, not you. Ask about them paying import charges also, this is not your fault.

Hi Supastoner!

I just wanted to say "hi" - I am also from the UK and live in Chipping Sodbury which is just outside Bristol!! They say it's a small world!! I usually use CK sales (www.cksales.com) as they stock all of Cathe's workouts on VHS and DVD and we "UK'ers" get a better exchange rate on the Canadian dollar than the US dollar, making it quite a bit cheaper in some cases. Also, CK Sales are very reliable and have a great customer service - they recently replaced a defective DVD of mine free of charge and with no shipping costs.
Hope this helps!
It's nice to know another Cathe fan in my neck of the woods!! :D
Kaz.

I will second the CK SALES recommendation too ! Hi Supastoner, I am from very wet, grey (at the moment) Nottingham, it is great to have another UK Cathe fan on board :D

Hi Kaz ! :D

Anna :)

I've actually managed to get in touch with Cathe's customer services who are sending me a replacement disc free of charge and apparently, because it's a replacement disc, I won't be charged any import fees. So that's pretty good. But thanks for the recommendation for CK Sales, I'll try them for my next purchase. I'm so impressed with the stuff that I can get from my defective DVD, I can't wait to get the replacement - do either of you two know anything that's similar and available in the UK?:7

Does that mean you can get it replaced anytime? I wrote them recently about the dvd I got recently and have not heard from them.

Willow, super, bernard, I'm also in the UK - London. I haven't used cathe tapes but I want to buy some to get me back into shape after my baby arrives in September - something new and all that to motivate me. There are so many tapes/dvds to choose from, can you recommend one or two that would be suitable for me? I guess an all over body workout would be best for one and perhaps strength for another. There are so many tapes that I'm confused as to what to select and it's such a long way to send off for tapes that I don't want to get it wrong.

If it gives you any clue, I also use Firm tapes and I'm a big fan of the original volumes 1 - 6.

I should add that I don't have a barbell, just handweights.

Thanks alot.
Molly

Hiya Superstoner,Anna,Kaz and Molly I also live in UK, right in the middle of Norfolk, it is great to know that I am not alone on this fantastic forum, I have learnt so much from reading all the posts but I do tend to be a lurker, that was untill I noticed some fellow UKer's.
Thankyou for the ck sales link I didn't know this site, do any of the UK educated crowd know of any fitness tapes/cd's available here? I certainly haven't had any success finding any at all that come close to the standard of Cathy's workouts, I just couldn't believe my luck when I discovered Cathy but I know what you mean about the shipping and then the heavy duty we have to pay on the doorstep before we can even get our workouts, perhaps we could group together when we want to place an order???
I have to say though, the service I have had is just great, on one occaision I ordered my tapes on the Monday and they arrived here on the Wednesday, which is better that the postal system we have here.
Have you had any success with ordering from The Firm or Fitprime? I tried to order some Firm tapes which included the F. Lifter from College videos only to be quoted over $100.00 just for the shipping!! which I just could not afford, and goodness knows what the duty would have been.

Sue

Sue, I've order alot of Firm/fitprime tapes from amazon.com. Reasonable prices and delivery wasn't that expensive. I've looked at collage but as you say, they're very expensive so give amazon.COM a try.

Which Cathe tapes do you have then? Which would you recommend to someone with out a barbell and wants to get in shape after a baby? I have a cousin in the States who will be visiting me shortly so I'd like to give her a couple of names to buy for me.

Thanks

Hi Sue & Molly!

It's nice to know a couple of other "Uk-ers"!! There may only be a handful of us, but we are here, LOL!!

Sue - Norfolk is a beautiful part of the country - I have only been once years ago, but always remembered the beautiful scenery! Like you, I'm afraid I don't know of any workouts over here that come close to the quality/intensity of Cathe's! Most of our workout videos seem to be made by ex-soap-stars/ex-members of the Big Brother Household!! It's a shame really, as there really is a market over here for good quality, intermediate/advanced workouts! Hmmn - perhaps we should start making our own, LOL! Now that wouldn't be a pretty sight as far as I'm concerned!!

I don't have too much experience of the Firm/Fitprime workouts - I did purchase some of the later Firms, but they weren't really my cup of tea - no disrespect to anyone else who loves them - they just weren't for me.

Molly - Firstly, Congrats on your pregnancy! I had my little boy in January (my first) and continued to do Cathe workouts throughout my pregnancy, with modifications from about 6 months onwards. Two weeks after having Daniel I was half a stone lighter than before I got pregnant and I really credit this to staying consistent with my exercise whilst pregnant. Obviously, the key is to make sure you exercise safely, drink plenty of water and LISTEN to your body. You might want to head over to the Fitmoms Forum, if you haven't already, as you will get great support and advice from other Mums and Mums-to-Be.

It's difficult for me to recomend any particular workouts without really knowing your fitness level, however, the best and first investment I made Cathe-wise was in the Cross Train Express series. There are 6 workouts, 5 of which each consist of approx 30 mins intense step/kickbox or hi/lo aerobics with strength training segment for a different body-part each day on the end. The 6th is a workout for the legs only and is tough! I think all bar one or two of the workouts also have ab/core work at the end, which you may not want to do at the moment? I used the CTX series alot during my pregnancy, but modified to suit how I was feeling on that particular day. CK Sales have the series for approx $120.00 + $25.00 shipping (Canadian Dollars) which equates to about £63 at the current exchange rate. If you don't want to spend this all in one go, then Circuit Max, Body Max and Cardio & Weights all contain cardio AND weight work, so you get a good deal for your money. The Wedding Video also has a 1 hour step workout AND a 1 hour strength workout. It is one of Cathe's slightly older tapes now, but is a little more basic in choreo and she breaks the moves down more, from what I understand, so it is quite a good one to start with to get you introduced to Cathe's style.

I don't own a barbell and have managed to use all of Cathe's tapes successfully without one. I've always much preferred spending the money on the actual workouts as opposed to alot of workout equipment (although my collection of accessories IS growing, he he!).

Hope this helps! :)

Take care,

Kaz

Soofit & others

Soofit:

I had a crack in one of my DVD's and they were very helpful. However, it is not always true that they will send you a replacement without having to send back the defective one first. I was told that they had to receive the defective disk back first before they send out a replacement. I mailed mine back and should be getting my replacement tomorrow.

Hi there UK-ers !!!! :7 It is lovely to see so many of us !

Molly....congrats on your pregnancy :)

Sue.....Thane Direct UK are selling the Firm Fanny Lifter (called Butt Lifter here) on their Sky/Cable channel (it is priced £59.99 + £5.95 P & P), and it comes with the three sculpt videos. www.thanedirect.co.uk

Kaz.....I am waving !!! :D

Anyway, I started off with the Wedding video, which consists of a step workout (not too complex) and a brilliant toning/floorwork/upper body segment, two workouts on one tape....good value. And I also started out with Mega Step Blast, too, which has more basic, broken down moves.
I do own a barbell (I rarely use it), I prefer my 8lb body bar, but you can use your dumbells instead of a bar, no problem. Powerhour/MIS are the two weight videos I started off with, but I have now fallen in love with the bodyparting in CTX series :)

Take Care !

Anna :)

Thanks alot girls!
It's great to see other Brits on board! I haven't met a single person who knows of the Firm (and I think they're great) and I'm really looking forward to getting back in shape.

I'm going to plump for the cross train express series - 6 workouts on the DVDs so wish me luck. It seemed to get the most votes anyway and I'm sure I'll find something in there I like!

I won't be doing anything before I have the baby except for some swimming and yoga so will have to ease myself quite gently back into it.

Thanks again!
M

Molly........Thanks, I will check out Amazon.com.
Both Kaz and Anna gave some great advise about workouts following your pregnancy which is better advise that I could give, it is so long since my own pregnancies ( my son is 30 this year and my daughter is 28 this year) and I wasn't into fitness back then.
I now own quite a few of Cathy's tapes, it was like I couldn't get them quickly enough once I found these excellent workouts and I wanted to make sure I got value for money what with the shipping and duty,I do love the strength and endurance tapes best and seam to reach for CTX Leaner legs and the Upper body tape which are just great, I also love the Pyramid and Pure Strength tapes too.
I would really like to get some of the Firm/ FitPrime tapes, which ones are your favorites?

Kaz.....I know what you mean about the 'Celebrity' workout bandwagon they are mostly sooo dull and boring, in a moment of weakness or desperation I bought the tape by Harvey from Fat Club as I thought he would knock me into shape, well, I have to say I watched the video but have never done it, so it is just gathering dust now, I cannot say that about any of Cathy's I do not feel as though I have wasted any money at all in buying them.

Anna....Many thanks for the Thane Direct link I will go and check it out, it does sound like a good deal, do you have the video set? would you reccommend it?
How do you get on with your Body Bar for the workouts? I have found that it seems to be very wide to grip and makes my hands ache compared to my dumbells.

Sue

Soobee, I haven't tried any of the fitprime ones .

I'm a big fan of the original Firm series volumes 1 to 6. Volume 1 is definitely my favourite. I also have Maximum Body Strength and Firm Strength, again both are very good.I think the only one I didn't like was cardio burn and after the Firm was taken over by goodtimes, the next two tapes I bought had bad sound quality.
Anyway, they're taking up alot of room in my cupboard so if any of you would like to have three Firm tapes (cardio burn and the latter two (can you put with the sound quality?) then let me know - I don't think you can email me on the account registered but perhaps you PM me? Is that possible on this forum?

All I can say is 'thank god for DVD' as I move towards Cathe workouts! I'm really looking forward to getting back into shape - the idea of being a 'yummy mummy' appeals!!! Oh well, four months for me to gain another stone and then we'll see!!

Molly.....Thank you I would love to have them and free up your cupboard space for you, we must arrange for me to pay for them.
I am not sure what 'PM' means? Sue

Hi Sue,

To date, I have not done any Firm videos (though very intrigued by them), but if you check out the Firm Ya Ya's Board

http://pub109.ezboard.com/bfirmbelievers

you can register and learn more about the Firm videos/workouts/Fanny Lifter, etc. The results fellow Firm exercisers are getting, are great !

I was tempted to purchase the Fanny Lifter (it is a 14" tallbox and useful for some of Cathe's strength work videos), but have found at the moment, 8"'s high is enough for me and my dodgy right knee when I do Leaner Legs (from the CTX series) :)

Good Luck !

Anna :D

Sue, my link does not work (I am very compter incompetent !), but if you go to Cathe's link pages, on the home page, you will see Firm Ya Ya's listed, and click on that ! :)
