Cathes nutrition site?

FourAM

Cathlete
I was just wondering ,for those of you who have joined it, if it has been helpful. I don't know how it works so I was wondering if you are a person who creates alot of your own meals...ie-I like to make my own spreads for sandwiches and salad dressings. How would you be able to add that in?
I know it has a data base of foods but what about foods I create?

FourAM..I have done very well with the nutrition software. I have lost about 5 lbs since tracking my food. I don't take near as many vitamins as now I see what I am getting with the foods I eat. I know you can create and use your own recipes, but I have not done that yet.

If you go into the Support forums and go to the.. "Workout Manager Support" thread there have been some posts about the recipe input with the nutrition software program that might answer your questions. HTH...

There is also a tutorial video that is FABULOUS - if you click on NUTRITION in the WM it says "demo" I think... You dont have to be logged in to WM to view it. VERY HELPFUL!:)

I love the software. I have not been as fortunate as Carole weight loss wise BUT I am learning how to put together a daily menu that gives me all of the nutrients I need while eating within a certain calorie/fat/protein range. I initially signed up for the 3 month membership. I fully intend to go for the full year plan once my 3 months is up. It's fabulous software. The user just has to be willing to take the time to use it. :)

you can to to caloriecount.com and use theirs for free. I use the calorie count plus one. you can also go to about.com and at the bottom they have a link for calorie count too but you have to find the calorie count plus area. They have a food search that has alot of name brand, and restraunt foods listed. If you can't find what our looking for you can add it yourself. You can add custom workouts also and tag your food and workouts so you can just click them into your logs. For me this works good. I have been only been doing it for about 1 week and so far I like it. You can download there toolbar and when you put in your foods it shows you an "eat meter" and it also shows you if you have lost any weight when you put your weight into the weight log. Right now mine is telling me I am down 1#. I really like this feature because it is a visual motivation thing for me.

also on your home page for your account they have a eat meter and a burn meter. I understand the eat meter, that just tells you the calories you've eaten so far that day. But the burn meter I am confused about. my calories eaten for the day are 254 but the burn meter reads 706 calories, not sure what that means. I guess I will have to ask someone on the forum to see if they understand that? I think it is supposed to calculate the # of calories you have burned so far for that day.

I hope this helps out anybody interested in this type of counter. I really like it so far!!
Penny

I am trying it for one month. So far I really like it. Entering your own recipies is great and the favorites. It is pretty easy to use. I think the grade system is great because I now realize that maybe I should take a multi vitamin because my diet is a bit fair with some vitamins such as calcium.

Try it for one month and see if you like it.

I love it...It's so simple to use and not a lot of fluff that takes forever to download...I live in the sticks and had to succum to satalite after living in the City with Comcast...Big change...better than Dial up...but not much better.

I was with SP for a year and a half and Cathe's seems to give me more information. I've yet to have a full day of A's...but it has become like a game with me.

I went a head and got a year membership!

I have been enjoying it too! After I stopped obsessing about making all A’s. That darn potassium is a tough one for me.

I have been entering all my own foods and that has taken some time. Now though I just enter my meals. :) I tend to eat the same foods a lot.

I have learned a good bit about food and better choices.

OMG...for me it's the Carbs...theye're never high enough...and the sodium is through the roof....

I think it's like anything though...once you use it for a while it gets so much faster...and easier. i really do like it...one day I'll have all A's...maybe...smile. I think one of my favorite things is looking at everyone elses A's and getting ideas from their food choices. So much to learn...:D

Thank you Penny. I will have to check that one out.

Celeste I live in the woods also and have never had cable so when we recently got sat. It changed my life:eek: Dial up to sat is a big difference.

I belong to Sparkpeople which is also free, but I'm enjoying Cathe's software because it gives me the nutrional breakdown and lets me determine what I need to eat in order to get all of the vitamins and minerals I need more naturally. For me it's not as much about weight loss as about health. I find it very helpful for that, and it has really helped me change some habits.

And ITA agree on the potassium! But, I'm managing to get A's there as well by eating more fruits and veggies - which cannot be a bad thing.

Thanks everyone for sharing your comments @ Cathe's nutrition s/w. I just watched the demo and have to say that I'm very impressed! I've always thought food journaling and meal planning was too time consuming, but Cathe's s/w appears to be very well designed and efficient. Life would be much simpler for me if I could convince my husband to eat more healthy! Argh....Ain't happenin'!! :(

Yes, I'm with you here. I'm eating so much more fresh fruit these days. And celery is a great choice for low cal, high potassium. You can get 100 mg from just one stalk, but only 6 calories.

With Sparkpeople, I could get my calories, fat and protein in order, but Cathe's site is helping me eat healthier overall. I was already doing pretty well, but I'm doing even better with her site. So it's worth it for me. And DH eats a bit better, too, with fresh fruit in the house.

Carol....we could have the same husband!!! I get so frustrated as he knows what is good to eat but still eats the junk

I've been thinking about joining also, but I've heard others mention fitday and calorie count are free and work well also. I'll probably logon to each site to see what's offered.
