Cathe Imax 3 flooring ?

I was looking at that site too - and the "dense mats - 5/8" thick" look great to me. :) I think I am going to order a set - and I like that you can mix and match the colors... :)

I have just ordered puzzle mats from resilite.com. The mats are a little thicker (0.83 inch) than the others I looked at and the price seemed to be reasonable ($230 for a 10 x 10 room). I can let you know how well they work out for me!

I got mine from Target too. Big 5 Sporting Goods sells them too. I endedup spending $45 to cover my entire workout area. I had problems with stress fractures. Nothing bothers me now!

If you get the puzzle mats, get enough to cover the ENTIRE area you work out in...not just the area around the step. If you can do so feasibly. I had that for a while(now I workout on a 2nd floor so the impact is ok) and it was just too much coordination to stay on the matt the whole time and not trip over the lip, etc, and slipping was a problem (puzzle mats over carpet).

Judy, I hope you see this...

I got my mats yesterday. The wood tone is more decent than I expected it to be so the look of the mats itself on my floor is well worth the money. I did PUB on them to see how well they'd fare on heavy weights since the website made sure to promote even denser mats for weight lifting. I did chest differently -- did presses first with a 50/55/60-lb. BB to see if the mats will scrunch up with my heaviest weights. They held up very well. The mats are very firm, but if you jump hard on them, they have a pretty good give.

The set fit my workout space perfectly, BUT I ordered another set to extend the mats from the very ends of my space to the other. Just so when I do something like Cardio Kicks, I don't have to go down on carpet at one point and trip on the mats. I need 9 more tiles. The rest I'll put in my son's play area. He's on an OT program that requires a lot of physical activity, so this will suit him just fine.

I was looking for puzzle mats like the one in my son's OT's gym that are individually upholstered in vinyl and are about 1.5 inches thick. Haven't found those online. I think they only sell those kinds to businesses.(?)

Hey Clare!

I got a set of 8 of 25 1/4" X 25 1/4" X 1/2" at either Sam's Club or BJ's Wholesale (I forget which one??) They cover a 32 Sq. Ft. area. They were marked down in the clearance section. Not sure why and it was the only set they had. Maybe they discontinued them?? I think I got them for $10.00. Our new home where we are moving will not have a finished basement so I am going to use them temporarily til Hubby finishes my workout room for me. The brand is Safety Mats and it says for indoor/outdoor use for business or home. Not sure how well they work as I don't need them til we move. Hope this helps a bit!

Pyoholic,

Glad to hear that you found a solution for your pain. I was having pain, but I was on a regular floor with carpet and my hips were starting to hurt terribly. This is what started me on my "search" for a better floor and now... my own workout space/room in my house.

Can you tell me if the tiles you installed are right over the carpet in your basement? I had considered EVA foam 1" but not sure if it has the right amount, or too much absorption of shock. I checked out the ironcompany.com site (THANKS SO MUCH FOR THAT LINK!) and actually, the pricing of the tile - aerobic tile flooring- is reasonable. not sure of the s&h yet... that may be the killer.

thanks for your reply!

Well, thanks for the tips. I went to Lowes today and got 6 packs of the puzzle mats for 100.00. I can't wait to jump around. Hopefully this will help my low back pain I experience every morning at 4 a.m. My workout room in the basement actually looks professional now. Melissa

I went out and bought puzzle mats yesterday, because I'm finding my joints and lower back really feel the stress from the high impact workouts. Since moving to our new house 5 months ago, I've been working out on a concrete basement floor covered with a laminate-with-subflooring-attached. I decided the best way to inaugaurate the puzzle mats was to do....you guessed it - IMAX3. What a world of difference!! Not only am I feeling better today, but I found that during the workout I seemed to recover from each blast much quicker. I finished the workout soaked in sweat, but still felt like I had enough spring in my legs to be able to go for a run. It was fabulous! I am planning to do another advanced cardio workout today, just because my legs still feel good. I don't feel like I need a day or two to recover. I should have gotten these things ages ago!

I ordered the Ironcompany Aerobic Tiles through JP at Ironcompany. AWESOME customer service.Even though the company was slammed with orders, I received quick replies to my constant questions and even a little wit! The product came much faster than I expected and my exercise room is being put together.

The description per the website (ironcompany.com) The Aerobic tiles are 12"x12" and have over 250 raised discs along with 3/4" thick resilient, "bounceback" air support. These tiles have similar performance characteristics as a floating hardwood floor with a built in sub-floor. Various colots are available - I ordered black because it was cheaper.

The flooring feels great under my feet. I have a carpet on the basement floor so, I have put plywood on top of that and then the tiles. This allows the tiles to function better than having it straight ontop of the carpet (my husband does not want to tear up the installed carpet for my area).

I am looking forward to working out on my new floor and helping all of my joints instead of having to change the workout because of the pain I was having. Thanks again for your recommendation Plyoholic!
