Cathe, I can not keep up anymore!!!!!

:( Cathe, just last week I did your new DVD series and I hate to admit it, but I just can't keep up anymore! x( I start out using the 6" to 8" platform and have to modify to a 2" to 3 ". On top of that, I can not complete the whole workout at one time. I am lucky if I can go an hour non stop! My question is are these new workouts more intense or am I just starting to slow down with age? I have been working out with your hardcore and previous series for a month prior to starting your new workouts and could complete these(which was no easy task mind you!)Lacey said to me, "Mom Cathe is really working you out isn't she?" You would not believe the sweat that plasters my clothes and face. I guess I can not accomplish the higher intensity like I used to and need to modify to low intensity which I do. Anyone else having this problem? Maybe I should change my user name to "lowerintensitylisa" what do you think? ;-)

Hi There,

I do not think you are alone. I have been doing Cathe for years and walking etc. For me it depends on the day and how my body is feeling. For high impact I use only the step no risers and I can just get through the workout. There are many workouts that I still can't do the whole thing.

It could be that you are just not proficient in the new workouts yet as they have lots of diffent moves etc.

I can do an hour of aerobics but can't jog a city block - that seems crazy to me but I guess its different than my usual work out.

You will catch up I think. Anything else different going on in your life - less sleep, more stress?

Good luck!

Something I've noticed is that as I strive to complete the newer workouts, I can go back to the older ones (that used to be too intense for me to complete) and get through them. So, while you may feel like the newer workouts are too hard to complete, they are accomplishing their goal: To increase your cardio capacity! Go back to an older workout you haven't done in a while that used to be too hard to complete. I think you'll see what I mean. For example: I haven't done Lowmax in months because I've been focusing on doing the newer workouts. The other day I pulled out Lowmax and got all the way through and was like, "Whoa! Where did that come from?!"

I agree with what you are saying. I have my step flat on the floor now and that helps. But also the heat and humidity kills me even with the air conditioner on. I just can't handle it. Plus I take longer dog walks. The winter I keep the heat low, go for shorter walks and can handle the step cardio much better. I just don't beat up on myself about it and do what I can.

I agree I remember huffing and puffing through kick max. Then I started KPC still can't get through that one but I get alittle farther each time well the other day I pop in kick max and blew through it. YAH! So turn that frown upside down youre on your way to a greater capacity!!

Hi,

I know what you mean about not keeping up. For me it's with weights. I do all the exercises, but with less weight than Cathe usually uses. For instance, I use 3, 5, and 8's for the PUB biceps...and I get a great workout! I try to go up, but can't finish the reps then. For pushups I just do what I can...never as many as Cathe and the gang. Cathe says in one tape that if you use weights that challenge you, you are getting a good workout. So, I just use weights that challenge me and get DOMS and feel like I got a good workout.

I have read, too, that as you get older your body needs more time to recover from weight workouts...maybe the same is true for cardio. I basically use my bike for cardio all the decent months of the year, then do Cathe cardio in the cold months. I use her for weights though all the time. You have to listen to your body to avoid injuries!

and Have Fun!

Beth

Beth,

I don't have PUB/PLB. I used to do Jari Love's Slim and Lean and some of Cathe's endurance based total body weight workouts and circuits. I didn't seem to make much strength gain until I started lifting heavier on the X. Do you have S&H or GS? Doing a body part split with a challenging weight might help increase strength. This new series should help you with strength gains too!

Blessings,
Wendy

:p I have no trouble when it comes to the weight sections. I can usually match Cathe's weight amount. My problem is the sweat factor. I do think, like another poster mentioned, that the humidity down in Florida is not helping. We do have central air and I even have to have two fans blowing. I did "Cardio Fusion" again last night and I started out with the 8" platform and then I had to modify and went down to the 4", but I did finish, Yeah! I think I will see a big difference once the humidity and heat let up! Also, Cathe, you are amazing as this new series is really melting the pounds off me! Thank you soooooo much! I will see in 2008!

This may sound silly but something that could really help is a sweat band. My aunt who is an avid gardner has just gotten some sweat bands and according to her they have "changed her life". Of course this is an exaggeration but here in Kentucky we are having an incredible heat wave along with extremely high humidity which of course makes for a very sweaty workout. Perhaps if you used a sweat band it would keep the sweat from pouring into your face which I have found to be annoying and painfull especially when it gets in your eyes.
As far as not being able to keep up, I don't think you are alone. I have been an aerobics instructor for 3 years and personal trainer for 1 year and still Cathe's cardios especially BM2 constantly challenges me and although I finish there are some parts I just say, I will either puke, passout, or I am going to march it out.

If at first you do not succeed try try agian!!!!!!

Hi Beth,

Sorry, I should have clarified. X is short for P90X. It's a 3 phase rotation (1 month each) lasting 90 days using a set of 12 dvds from another company. It's about mixing up your workouts and lifting to failure at 6-8 reps or 12 to 15 reps. How much you lift depends on you. If you search the forums, you'll find a lot of threads which go into more depth about the P90X program.

Some ladies using P90X use a similar type rotation using Cathe's heavy to moderate weight dvds and cardio dvds. Some ladies will substitute part of their X rotation with Cathe workouts. I didn't sub during my 90 day rotation, with the exception of Yoga during my last weeks. It was hard! I sure missed Cathe!

Now that I've graduated from the X, I'm using Cathe's total body weight, cardio and circuit workouts until I start another round of the X. I'm not sure when I'll start Round 2 of the X. Depending on when the new series are in my hands, that may be awhile.:7

Blessings on your fitness journey!
Wendy

Cathe is hard! I must say this! I love her workouts, but wow is she fast and I even have a hard time keeping up from time to time.

It feels nice to know that sometimes this happens to others too!

Keep it up though! :)

Good luck!
