Cathe, can I begin with your workouts?

Hi, Cathe:

I am a former advanced exerciser, but I have allowed myself to gain weight with little or no exercise in the last several (3-4) years. I want big changes in my physique: fat loss and muscle gain. I have your lastest 3 sets of exercise DVDs: Body Blast, Hardcore, and Intensity Series. I want to know if I can begin with your workouts, if I take it slow? I don't want to play around with other versions of exercise to build up to your workouts. I think it may take me a while to complete one of your workouts at full intensity, but I at least want to begin the process. What do you think? If you have time, would you mind creating a sample workout plan for me using those workouts? Thank you so much!

Dawn

P.S. If anyone besides Cathe have any ideas or comments, please feel free to respond. Thanks!

Not Cathe, here, but I would repost this under the rotation forum...We have a couple of rotation gurus out there!!

By the way, work at a hard pace FOR YOU...The sooner you jump in, the sooner they become easy!!! Like Cathe says, "Work, Work"!!!!

Hi Dawn!

We are both in the SAME boat!! I, too was an advanced exerciser and have slacked (SLACKED!) in the last 3-4 years. I feel so out of shape - like a ball of dough - that I can hardly stand it. I keep thinking back to when I could do this, that or the other and boy, do I ever regret giving up the exercise 'habit.' I keep stopping and starting - it's so hard for me to get motivated again. Maybe you can help me!! =]

Take care,
Liz

I'm less advanced with regards to cardio intensity than I used to be. I have found that I can still do Cathe step workouts by using a very low step height. I've had to go back to my old step that I thought I had outgrown. This way, I can still enjoy the workouts I like without wearing myself out. It seems like a simple idea, but it took me a while to realise that there was no point struggling with my full sized rebok step when I'm not feeling up to it.

I too, was just like you. I started doing Cathe (on FitTv) about 6 months ago after not working out in a long time. I could not finish her workouts even though they were the condensed version on tv. But I did what I could, modified when needed and lifted light weights. I'm now 25 pounds lighter (Thank you Cathe -- said with a tear in my eye) lifting heavier weights and now not modifying. (also buying full versions) I suggest starting slow and listen to your body.

You can do it! One moment at a time. It will be worth it. We can do it, and we will have the bodies to prove it. If you would like a exercise buddy, please feel free to email me at [email protected]. Best wishes!

Thanks for all of the great responses, everyone!

Thank you for the great comments. I will take it slow!

I started with Cathe's workouts. I've exercised off and on for years, but not with such advanced workouts. Still, I started with Step Blast. Oh, sure, I couldn't get much further than the workout on the first couple times I did it, but now I can get through the whole thing.

My suggestion: Start with Cathe and go slow. Pick on workout and stick with that for a while before trying another one. Only do what you can do. If ten minutes is it, then stop at ten minutes. Also, do the workout in segments. The choreography can be a little tricky at first, so what I did was the warm-up and combo one of Step Blast, then I'd rewind and do them again if I was up to it. After I'd gotten the choreography down, I added combo two....then three...and so forth. Before long, I was getting all the way through with no problems with the cardio at all.
