Cardio Hits Or Classics Volume 1?

I have 99% of Cathe's newer workouts, but have always been curious about her older step stuff. I do have Rhythmic Step, which I *love* and MIC, which is intense, but fun too! I also have Body Max, which seems very outdated , but a very challenging workout.

So I've been debating on which would be better to get, which is more enjoyable...Cardio Hits or Classics Volume 1?

Any opinions?

~Chris

I have both but I must admit, I seldom go for these workouts. If you think BodyMax seems very outdated, you'll definitely think that with Cardio Hits and Classics. The moves are more basic and more repetitive than those in the newer workouts. I've had them both for a few years but have maybe used them once in the past 2 years. The newer workouts are just so much more enjoyable and I just reach for them instead.

Hope that helps,

I have the Classics and have only used it a few times--just too dated. Cathe has too many newer ones that I enjoy much more.

I would definitely go with Cardio Hits, StepMax is a fantastic workout with great choreography. I think you'd really like it, there's snippets of her past choreography in her newer workouts which would smooth out the learning curve. I'm not distracted by 'dated' workouts at all, the outfits in PowerMax were definitely current when filmed but things change, what doesn't change is intensity, PowerMax has the 'Woo Hoo' factor for sure. StepFit is one I don't do very often but when I'm in the mood for it I really enjoy it...Cathe's pretty cute in this one...'was that a sheep?' still cracks me up!! Step is my favourite cardio and I can't imagine not having Cardio Hits in my collection. The 'Classics' workouts are definitely not as intense and far to repetitive for my liking.

Take Care
Laurie:)

Thanks gals!

Some things to think about. I want to do "just" step sometimes, and there aren't that many good long "just" step workouts lately from Cathe. Like I said, the only ones I can think of are RS and SB, maybe. (Are there any others?)

I don't think I could like the slower repetitive moves, so your advice is very much appreciated, Laurie!

I like Cardio Hits--PowerMax, StepFit, and StepWorks--a lot. To me, they are all choreographed well like Rythmic Step and Step Blast. I'm focused on what move comes next and getting a good sweat going. The music isn't as good in the older ones, but when I want a tough cardio workout I really like Cardio Hits.

Classics--Step Jam, Step Max, and Step Heat--I do not like as much, though I still do these occasionally. Step Jam, I actually love, but I find myself looking at the clock during Step Max and Step Heat. (Step Max is linear: one move after another, without a routine like Rythmic Step. I find this one a little slow). I think you will find that the Classics DVD seems a bit dated like Body Max 1.

Still, all of the above are as good or better than any step workout I've gotten in a gym, IMO. I just love Cardio Hits, and I like the Classics, too. Again, not as good as Step Blast and Rythmic Step but good solid cardio.

My five cents,
Dawn

Darn it, you guys! I just got Classics and have done the first two and like them well enough. Now you're making me want Cardio Hits! I agree that sometimes I just want to do step, not interval work, which is why I bought Classics.

Hi Chris,

I agree with others that Step hits is more fun that the Classics. I have a lot of Cathe's recent workout and realised that I have become used to a certain amount an intensity. In my case, the Classics have become a little too "easy" and the choreagraphy does not have as much variety as recent workouts. There is more intensity in Cardio hits and the choreagraphy is more fun and challenging. You get a good all step workout without intervals. I would go with Cardio hits.

thanks!!!

I still haven't ordered any. I'm weighing my options and appreciate the input!

i'm also starting to think maybe I want "Kickmax & Circuit Max" instead.. LOL!

Cardio Hits. I actually just decided my Sundays will be Old School Sunday and I did StepFit today (on VHS no less). I only pull these out about once a year (because I did them so frequently when they were released). They seem fresher that way. POwer Max and Step Works are some of the newer of the old videos and aren't as dated as the purple 'n' lace Step Max. They are great step-only 45 minute + workouts.

Anyway, Step Heat bores me. For that reason alone, cardio hits is better (for me anyway).

Not sure I'll be pulling out Mega Step Blast anytime soon, but I'm enjoying my old Cathe tapes right now.

I like both of them amd intersperse them with the newer step workouts. Cardio Hits in general is more intense than than Cardio Classics even IF you do Cardio Hits on a step with a single set of risers. I sometimes put 2 risers on for stepfit and Powermax, but haven't done so yet for Stepworks which has very complicated choreography (yes, even compared to RS). StepFit is also, a longer step workout , about 69 mins. Cardio Classics routines are choreographed for a step and two risers. The choreography is more challenging overall on Cardio Hits.

A correction for Step Max (only a portion of the workout is linear, the remainder is either a routine or a plyometric interval segment. The interval segment is on a step with 2 risers and is a pretty tough 12 minute segment.

As far as dated, the only thing dated is the music and the workout gear. If you want to add variety to the step workouts you have, I would add one of these. I found that my body was getting too used to StepBlast, RS and BodyMax 2 and my heartrate would not get as high, but that doesn't seem to happen if I really switch things up.
