Can't move my head

Nice. So, I did disc 16 last night and on the final exercises, the triceps kickbacks, I tweaked something in my neck/trapezius on the first set. So what did I do? Yes, the rest of the sets. All of them. At the heavier weight. Within an hour I could hardly move my head. I'm an idiot. I'm hoping Advil and heat and ice over the next 48 hours will do the trick. I'm supposed to do legs tomorrow, but will push it to Sunday to be sure. Damn, this irritates me. I'm not even sure how I did it. My head must have gotten out of alignment - I don't know if I looked back, side, up or what. grrrr

You know this has happened to me SO many times. I swear it is related to my desk job. Good thing is that a little Motrin and ice then heat, and the muscle seems to loosen up. My DH says he can feel a lump whenever it happens in my upper back near the top of my shoulder. He says he can feel it roll when he massages it....EEEEWWWWW! :) Besides the pain, it is so embarrassing to look like you have a neck brace on when you don't! HE HE. Hope you feel better!

Exactly! I've done this several times - I seem to be susceptible to it. The worst was when I did it attempting scorpion pose in yoga class. That one was a mess for weeks. I've got a Thermacare wrap on it for the day. Hopefully that will loosen it up.

Next time, have your husband press his thumb into the center of the knot and just hold it there for 60-120 seconds. It will hurt, but it helps to break up the knot.

THANKS to you! :) My SIL just made me a rice bag that you put in the microwave! I LOVE THAT THING! :) Have a great weekend!

Oh no! I did something similar with the following legs disc. (There's a thread about it.) I hope you feel better very soon.

My doctor told me - ice for the first 1-2 days and then heat, and rest.

My husband can also zero in on the knots and cables in my back and neck. They are pretty prominent, apparently. I work at a computer all day. Do you other posters have the same issue? This can cause all kinds of problems with the neck, shoulders, and back.

How is your neck doing now?

Hang on

Well a year ago I did exactly the same thing with P90X, except that it was the very first exercise (push-ups) and I continued the whole thing...not very smart. I ended up with a pulled muscle along the side of my neck, down the back and it lasted for a good week.
Again like other posters, ice/warmth alternated and REST for a week should do it. Then start again slowly.
Good Luck!

Don't feel bad, at least you did it while pushing yourself through a tough workout...I did it whole doing the extended stretch:eek:! Now how stupid is that..."I am going to stretch this Haarrrddd";)

I'm all better - thanks for asking! I spent Friday with a Thermacare wrap on it all day, and I took some Advil. Then I took Saturday off, as well. Did housework, but no workout at all. Sunday I did legs and had no problem holding the 20 pound dumbbells and last night I rocked Back and Biceps with no problem. This is at least the third time I've strained that area (over many years), so I just have to pay attention more, I guess. Luckily it healed quickly this time.

Sounds like we are in the same boat. Took the rest of the week off to rest and then back on track on Monday.

I'm so glad you're feeling better! I hope you stay that way.
