Hi Cathe,

I bought the LIS and it seems i am not getting to follow any of the rotations as i work from 8:30 to 5:00pm and i have a 7 yrs old that i help with homework.... after i am finished i just don't seem to have the energy to workout... HELP:(

Not Cathe....but wanted to let you know what works for me. I have 4 kids (ages 7-1). I find that if I don't work out first thing in the morning it doesn't get done. I get up around 5:00, work out about an hour, shower, eat, and then get my kids up for the day. For a long time I attempted to make time to exercise while they were napping, after they went to bed, ect and I was never able to pull it off. The events of the day just took over.

I have to do it in the morning also. I have tried the evenings and found that I would often NOT work out more than I DID work out. Even when I took my gym clothes to work and changed into them, I would always have a reason to stop here, pick that up, go home, make a call, do this, do that, make dinner, etc. Then I would be too beat to workout.

Now I get up really early and find that in a month I maybe miss one day (if any) of my scheduled workouts. It was hard to force myself to get up earlier, but once I got used to it, it wasn't a problem. I have also found that working out in the morning makes me feel better the rest of the day and it is *so* much quieter in the house with less interruptions.

Good Luck!

Thank you! i did make up my mind and did AT yesterday evening, WOW that is some workout... I said i was going to get up early this morning to do yoga max but i am just tooo lazy........... but like you said, once i get used to getting up early it will be a breeeze...i will do my yoga today after work.:D

I hear ya!! It's hard for me to get my workouts in.........I have a destructive toddler. I use the time when she goes to bed, or when my husband is home to watch her. I agree with the morning time to squeeze in those workouts. For me it's just more convenient to do it in the evening (7pm) as opposed to 5am. I am sure once she gets older and goes to bed later, I will be sweating at the crack of dawn too.

Good luck!

I got my kids accustomed to my morning workouts from the time they were tiny babies. It was just part of our morning routine. Get up, eat breakfast, nurse, get everyone dressed and occupied, do my workout. The more you do it, the more the kids will expect it and behave while you get your workout in. I'd put the baby on a blanket in the corner of the room where I could keep an eye out, and they got used to my not picking them up during that time. The crying didn't ever last for more than a couple minutes. ;)

*This was not easy all the time, but my husband is never home, so evening workouts (and the inevitable evening toddler meltdowns) were not possible for me. My kids are in middle school now, so I'm good to workout whenever! Whew! Hang in there. :) Do what works!

Premixes

Another option is to find time to do one of the premixes. Quite a few are around 30 minutes. Finding a half hour for a workout might be a little easier and is better than not working out at all.

Hope you find a routine that works. This series is awesome!

Evenings work for me

I have just this month gotten back to doing my daily workouts after a long hiatus (!) and I've got 3 kids, (9 yrs. and 7 yr. old twins). We get everyone to bed here around 8pm, and then it's straight to my workout. I get my workout clothes on while they get pajamas, so I won't punk out on myself.

Now, I have been doing 30 minutes steadily, then most nights do the express of Yoga Relax to get calmed down, ready for bed, etc. I've really enjoyed this and find I look forward to it every day. (I also know that I haven't lost my chance just because it's the end of the day!). An added bonus is that I sleep great (except for trips outside with the puppy, but that will pass soon.)

Hope that helps, maybe give you an option you hadn't tried~

PS - I am not doing STS, I just can't get this tracker to go away. :)

thank you all for the encouraging comments..... i am definitely motivated! I did Yoga Max last evening and will do Total Body tri-sets upper body today! wish me luck.....:D

I'm a mom of 6 year-old, so I know where you're coming from!!! I tend to workout after my kid's bedtime (around 8 pm). I sometimes workout in the mornings but I find that I can work more intensely at night.

Sometimes, I have to force myself leave some laundry unfolded or dirty dishes in the sink. Exercise is more important.

Even if I'm totally exhausted from working all day, I generally feel great when the warm is done. I also play 'mind games' to get started when I'm wiped out. I tell myself to just get the 30 minute mark, and then I can quit. It helps with the dread factor!

Wow! I am so proud of myself, I completed 5 days of workouts in a row!!!! thanks again for the encougement!!! it really helped me to be focused.:D

What really helped me was changing my mindset. I make exercise part of my day - part of my schedule. I figured that if I couldn't set aside 1 hour (or whatever time period) in a 24 hour day for myself, there was a problem.

I used to always have the mindset of "I hope to fit in a workout after work" or "I hope to get up early enough in the morning to do a video". When I was asked to go pick up this or go do that errand, my response would be "well....I was going to workout, but OK" or I would do the errand and then think "I will now have to cut my workout down to 30 minutes or double up tomorrow." etc.

Now my response is "No, I can't" (because I have a scheduled workout). I make it part of my schedule like a shower, brushing my hair, eating meals, etc. When I am asked to do something or have something else to be done, I schedule it AROUND my workout. Just like I would schedule appointments or errands AROUND my work schedule.

Sometimes I can't get to all my chores - but I realize it is OK to let the dishes sit out or the laundry to stay unfolded a bit longer. I believe it is better to workout and leave the laundry undone than to have folded laundry and to have NOT worked out.

Previously, I would "squeeze" in a workout after everything else in my life was done...causing me not to workout reguarly. Now that exercise is part of my schedule, I rarely go a day without it. I would never have "squeezed" in going to work after my laundry was done, so why was I "squeezing" in exercise after the laundry was done?

Good Luck - hope this helps.

Great thread ladies!!! I LOVE all of your answers!

I am a full-time working mom of 2 kids...ages 2 1/2 & 7. And the 7 yr old is ADHD, so I often say he counts as 2...haha, but sadly, it's pretty true. I also spend 3 hrs commuting (1.5 hrs each way) 3 days a week. Thankfully I work from home the other 2 days, so it helps balance out the longer days. But I still make time for workouts 6 days a week. They average an hour...some slightly shorter, some longer. I used to be a gym rat before discovering Cathe, so working out at home is a HUGE timesaver for me. I finally gave up my gym membership this past summer as I was having trouble making it there anymore. But who needs the gym when we have Cathe?!?!

Anyway... I just wanted to say that I too make time for my workouts, so it can be done. There is some great advice in this thread though. You have to make it a priority and MAKE the time! You will feel better halfway in, and awesome when it's done.

Good luck! :)

"But who needs the gym when we have Cathe?!?! "

I totally agree. I have access to many amazing FREE gym facilities here on my military base, but I consistently stick to Cathe because her workouts are tougher and more motivating. Going to the gym was fun before I became a mom. Now, the logistics are maddening.

BTW, my husband is in amazing shape, and he got chewed up by the first STS workout. haha I would love to see Cathe PT a company of Marines!!

I am a single mom of 3 boys, ages 15, 13, and 11. I work from 9am - 5:30pm. My 13yo has ADHD and a learning disability that makes reading very difficult for him so I spend alot of time in the evening doing reading lessons with him and helping him with other homework. I also help my other two boys with their homework. In addition, my evenings are full with all the other motherly and household duties. Working out in the evening is not an option for me so I get up early to workout. I start my workout between 5:00 and 5:30am. You just have to make time for it.
