Can I Do STS Along With Other Workouts?

Dear Cathe,

I would like to know if I would be able to do other workouts along with STS. Let me explain. I train in martial arts 2x per week and teach a cardio kickbox/total conditioning class 3x-4x per week. Would I still be able to do these activities and the complete STS program?

Thank you.

Not Cathe (of course :p), I plan on doing kickboxing (classes and dvds), and my bootcamp dvd for my cardio workouts during STS.

Edited to mention... I just noticed the total conditioning part of your post, I'm curious to see others respond.

Just a thought: for the classes you teach, if you find that the weight portion (if that's what the 'total conditioning' part of the workout is) interferes with STS, could you just do a few reps with the class, then walk around and coach them? Or bring up a 'star pupil' and use him/her to demo the moves as you coach them? Or use very light weights and tell your class why?

Hope you don't mind my tagging on to this question - I am just getting started with kettlebells, and am wondering if I can integrate that with STS, or if it would be better to push my kettlebell work out to spring? As a KB beginner, I'm mostly focused on form, doing a few exercises frequently but not working hard in any given session.

Hi Luv2bhealthy! Any cardio workouts of any kind are a welcome and encouraged addition/compliment to the STS program. Go for it!

Not Cathe but I plan to do kettlebell workout with very light weight (10#) once a week while doing STS. That if I can lift my arms. :)

Thanks! I don't want anything to interfere with getting full benefit of STS - but this kettlebell addiction is growing :) If there's a safe way to incorporate it, that's perfect. What you suggest sounds like a great idea.

I'm wondering if during the first phase, endurance, it might be ok to add in a light kb workout, but during the heavier lifting phases, you will probably benefit more by giving your muscles more recovery time.

I figured for me, I'm not getting the kind of results I want from working out right now, so I'm going to really put my trust in STS and do it as prescribed.

I just started kbs again, I had a little mental road block to get over, but I'm back with them, and I do really enjoy them, but I'll just be using these until the STS gets here, then I'll have to put them away for a while.

Thank You!

Thank you, Cathe, and to everyone else who responded. I notice that cardio is fine. So, that must mean that I will have to lay off the weights in my classes because I have a tendency to go heavier than everyone else, and if I do STS, then obviously, I would have to do very light weights or just demonstrate and coach everyone else as Kathryn suggested. That will be difficult for me, but I am really interested in STS. It just looks so challenging!

One thing you could do is work STS into your life, and not do it as scheduled. So that means it would take you longer to do the STS rotation, but if you do your weighted class on Monday, maybe do the planned STS work-out on Wednesday, or whatever works. Just make your own rotation, using STS rotation ideas.

I actually do that with some of Cathe's rotations, since there are different things I like to do, but I also like to incorporate her ideas.
