Calories burned in kickmax,

chapplin

Cathlete
Hi Cathe, I did the kickmax friday and I just love this workout. But I do have one question, my sister and I both did the workout and she weighs 200 lbs (already lost 20 lbs) on her heart monitor it shows she burned 701 calories! Is that possible with this workout, I know that if you are heavy, you will burn more calories, but that seems very high to me. I also have a hrm, put didn't wear it when working out. I will try sometime next week and use it then. By the way we both stand within our max heart rate.

In case anyone else knows, are these hrm's reliabe and accurate? We both have the polar 5 hrm. This hrm stuff is really new to me, so I am seeking any information about them. I went on the polar website, but didn't find any information on the accuracy of them.

Also it seems I burned just as much calories doing the musclemax as any other cardio. What gives on that? When I am weight training am I still burning fat? Any information will be greatly appreciated. Thanks Chap

Hi, I have three HRMs. Two of them allow me to enter a fitness setting. Although all three monitors display similar heart rate readings throughout the workouts the algorhithm used to determine calorie burn is different between the monitors with the fitness quotient plugged in. These calculate a lower calorie burn than the HRMs without a fitness quotient variable if you entered a reading indicating that you routinely exercise several times a week. The more fit you are..the less calories you burn. 600-700 calories may be in the right range for Kickmax for someone who weighs 200 lbs and who might not be as aerobically fit as she could be. Those high impact drills burn a lot of calories in that 15 minutes.

Thanks for replying, my sister is so geeked about the calorie's burned, she wanted my DVD. I told her I NEVER lead out my Cathe's DVD, not even for my sister (whom I love dearly). She only lives 25 minutes from me, so we are planning on doing this workout 1-2 a week. But it kind of makes sense about the 600-700 calories burned for her weight. Just like when a person weighs a lot, they will lose weight quickly then someone who is not as heavy. I'm just glad my husband bought the hrm for her and I for this past x-mas. Thanks for replying again, Chap

I asked this question before but received no reply and can't find any information on the Polar site either, so I am hoping someone can shed some light on the subject. When doing a Cathe weight lifting workout, how does the monitor calculate calories burned, or can it even do that?
Nadia

it will calculate you calories whenever you are doing anything.. as long as your HR is above the number where it will do the counting (i.e. A5 starts counting calories at 100, s720i starts counting them at 90)

so if your HR is over 90-100.. then yes.. it will count the calories....

cute work out clothes are good for AT LEAST an additional 10-15 calories burned!

IN the same vein, after doing LowMax yesterday for the first time, my HRM told me I burned 629 calories!!!

Can't complain about that!

I did LowMax on an 8-inch step. The workout took me 1 hour and 11 minutes (I took a few more moments of recovery then the tape did). According to my HRM, I spent 46 minutes in my target range and 35% of my calories came from fat.

Oh, I should have asked - did you mean me? I'm sorry... I didn't mean to be presumptuous!
