Anyone else out there addicted to caffine? It seems I can't stop having my cup of joe every morning and it doesn't stop there, coffee, diet coke, tea, . . . .I love this Enviga stuff now because I can get my soda fix, and caffine fix at the same time. Is there a food item you feel like you just can't live without that isn't so great for you? Someone please give me tips on how to drink just water. I know I need to just stop buying it but every morning my body just automatically goes straight for the coffee machine. :(

Um, ya. It's called sugar.:( I'm severely addicted to the stuff. I can't stop eating candy lately!

Caffeine I can go without--I just love the taste of coffee, but it's not the caffeine I'm after.

But I just CAN'T seem to stay away from that blasted candy jar at work. And I'M the one who keeps bringing more candy in to refill it when it's empty!!!! GRRRR!!!! WTH is wrong with me!?

CAFFEINE!!!! coffee in the morning and energy drink at lunch! although if i don't have then i don't sweat the energy drink(xyience stuff i found it dirt cheap otherwise low carb monster only) but must have CCCCCOOOOOFFFFFFFEEEEE!!!

Janie,

If you are addicted to caffeine, and want to stop, you will have to detox. If you do it cold turkey, it takes 3 days to detox. The headaches are not fun(dull, pounding).
I had to detox because caffeine was triggering migraines. By the 3rd day the headaches subsided. It's quick, but not easy.

Hey Cynthia, . . yeah I know I need to detox. I actually ended up in the ER for chest pain and they took x-rays and did all sorts of test and finally just said that it could be due to my caffine intake. Dr. told me to quit. My initial reaction was just to smack him, . . right across the face. Of course I went cold turkey and I had migraines, the shakes, and was just down right unpleasant. I've since then just cut my intake but I'd love to just quit all together and drink water.

Don't you remember me at the July RT. I was hanging at the coffee table getting refills every 5 minutes??? What's with those little paper cups?? GIVE ME A BIG MUG!!! A really big mug. Heck, just put the coffee urn on my table!
I'm a total addict. Started in nursing school and working 12 hour shifts in the ER made me a caffeine JUNKIE.:eek:

Can the doctor prescribe some migraine medicine?
I had to quit cold turkey because I can't stop at one cup. One cup turns into 3:( I love the taste and aroma. I also like the rush after I've quit for a while then start up again. I've had to detox more than once.

do you think

you could ween yourself off of caffein? maybe start mixing a 1 to 4 ratio and then, changing it until you are completely off caffein? when i have wanted to stop drinking it, i would just start slowly changing the ratio of decaf to caf in my morning coffee....it was able to avoid the horrible headaches....

i am addicted to sweets...i was raised in the south where we had dessert for every meal, so i am screwed.....i am also an all or nothing kind a gal so it is either absolutely no sugar, or having it when i want it each day.....i haven't figured out a way around it....

i guess we all must have a vice or 2....

Regarding sugar have any of you guys or gals ever tried the unrefined unprocessed sugar that they sell at whole foods? Do you know if this better than regular white sugar? Gosh I hope so for the price I pay. I have to have sugar in my coffee and I don't like splenda or any of the artificial sweetners. As far as kicking the habbit, . . .I've tried. I don't sleep well at night so when I'm up in the morning I need my fix. I only get 4-5 hours of sleep each night. :(

I MUST have my coffee in the morning. I just love it, and I also don't think it's so bad to drink. I don't think it's a habit that needs kicking :p.

BUT I only drink it in the morning, because I don't sleep well as it is. I don't drink soda or energy drinks, I just need that little push in the morning, and I just love the flavor and aroma of coffee.

I have a keurig single cup brewer, it ties TIVO for the best invention this century so far! :D

I was right there with ya, Ellie!! I drank so.much.coffee that weekend, partially because I was exhausted from all the workouts/giggling with my roomies/getting-to-know you/etc., and partially because that organic coffee was SOOOO GOOOOOOD!!

I am a coffee drinker, usually have one cup when I wake up and then another when I get to work.

My new obsession is Diet Lipton Green Tea -- I love this stuff, and I assume it has caffine in it.

Next time, bring your BIG MUG. I bet you won't be the only one!

I quit cold turkey when trying to get preg for our first about 7.5 years ago. Between being preg and nursing I haven't really had any since. At this point I don't want to start back up because I don't want the calories from pop and I can't stand the taste of coffee.

I love it!! Love my coffee!! I gave up Diet Coke and all diet sodas a good 2 years ago, but I will NOT cut out my coffee!! I start my day w/ a cup and try to limit myself to 3 cups a day. (not huge mugs, just a coffee cup size) And I drink it black, no sugar or creamers for me!

But yeah... I'd drink it all day if I'd let myself!

I am also addicted to caffeine, but in the form of Diet Mt. Dew. I have been drinking this for breakfast for 15 years now. At least once a year, in the fall or winter, I quit drinking it. I long for it so bad that I have a pavlovian reaction whenever I hear someone opening a soda. Every spring when I get my first sinus infection I am so tired that I start drinking it again. A few weeks ago I was traveling for work in an area where Dt. Dew is not as prevalent as it is here. I tell you by the second day I could hardly think of anything else. I really don't care much for other pop and nothing could quench my craving. Finally, I gave in and went on the hunt for one. The people I was working with had never heard of Dt. Dew, but did understand the craving. That first sip I looked just like a drug addict receiving a hit.

Each fall I struggle to give up my beloved Dt. Dew. I think this year I decided to not ween myself off of it. I drink water most of the day and eat fairly cleanly. Is one lone can of Dew going to be my undoing? I don't think so. So, for this winter, I will indulge and enjoy my daily caffeine hit in my Diet Mt. Dew.

I have one green tea, Diet Cola, or something like that (I'm not a big coffee drinker) to get me going in the morning. Very rarely do I have more than one because I feel like that's all I "need". I would like ot give it up altogether (and have many times before...oh, the headaches), but I figure one isn't that bad. I don't like to get overly obsessive about anything or deprive myself totally.

The caffiene in coffee turns on the sweet tooth. That is why coffee is served with something sweet. After I drink my coffee, I have a glass of orange juice, followed by cranberry juice. But I admit I do drink unsweetend tea. A no no in the south.

I quit drinking diet soda cold turkey and switched to water. That was over two years ago. I still got my caffeine fix from coffee; a continuous drip all day long.:p Lately, I've been using half teeccino and half caffeinated coffee. I'm going to slowly decrease the amount of caffeinated coffee. Teeccino is a herbal coffee sold at Whole Foods. I like the dark roast and mocha flavors. It tastes soooo good!!! You can find more information about it on their website: http://www.teeccino.com

Hope this helps.

Oh Debbie I am so with you on that--I don't drink much, but I can't go without my Dunkin Donuts coffee in the a.m. I have one mug before cardio (that's the guzzle mug) and one while I'm getting ready for work (that's the savor mug) and I'm done for the day. Like Dela, I couldn't sleep if I drank any more.

If it makes you feel any better, Cathe's a coffee drinker. :) I don't know if she's addicted, but I did have a discussion at the 2005 RT w/her about the virtues of Dunkin Donuts vs. Starbucks coffee. ;)
