Brussel Sprouts....

Well, I hate to start a debate, but here goes...

YUCK!!!!

I don't like them.

Broccoli Rules!!!:D:D:D

Add me to the sprouts camp for sure! HATED them (still do) as my mom makes them. Steamed. Boring.

But we prep 'em, throw them into a zip-lock baggie, drizzle with some olive oil (or other healthy option) add a pinch of sea salt, and shake-shake-shake! Pop them onto a baking sheet and roast in the oven. They get crispy and tender and OH! SO! YUM!

BUT - in fairness to fit44, I do the same with my broccoli and it's ALL good!;)

I do the same! EVOO and sea salt is my best friend :p

When I was little, my 3 big brothers used to tell me they were parakeet heads! Took me a long time to overcome that.....:p

I too roast them. But I just toss them with the oil RIGHT ON THE PAN with my hands rather than wasting ziploc bags and filling up landfills and adding chemicals to the water supply. I so don't get that!!

Gotta love big brothers! Soy sauce was grasshopper guts, and the dumpling casserole my Mother made was sheep's eyeballs. But we had a parakeet, so that would have been really traumatic.

I ♥ both! :D

Now, can anyone tell me how to make kale taste better?

Kale is THE BOMB! I usually saute it with EVOO, garlic, onions, sea salt, and/or any no-salt seasonings :p. You can also make kale chips (lots of recipes on-line!). My 4yr old daughter will eat an entire tray of Kale chips! Which is great obviously, except those were for mommy ;). So I always have to make a 2nd batch :).

JANN!!!! I LOVE me some kale in my green smoothies, though I completely agree with the kale chips as well. 'Cept you always have green speckled teeth afterward - HA! And FYI - my green smoothies would not work without a big ole scoop of Pauline Nordin's fighter diet greens as well. Greens, kale, spinach, blackberries ----> bliss!

Brussel Sprouts

Oxygen Magazine had this Quinoa and BS recipe which I tried and it turned out real good. ( Oxygen Dec 2012 Issue )

1 Serving:

1. 1/4 cup dry quinoa
2. 1/4 avocado diced
3. 8 brussel sprouts halved
4. olive oil
5. 1/4 tsp garlic powder
6. 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper

Cook the quinoa. Microwave BS in 2 tbsp water for 5 minutes. Then pan fry them in the olive oil till golden brown and slightly crispy and add the cayenne pepper and garlic powder to taste. remove from heat add the quinoa and avocado.

I add cranberries and roasted almonds to it and avoid the avocados.

Kale

This one is a Dr. OZ Detox smoothie that is awesome:

1/2 c mango
1 c blueberries
1 1/2 c coconut water
1 c kale ( fresh )
1 tbsp lemon
1/4 avocado
1/4 tsp cayenne ( makes a huge difference ... must have it )
1 tbsp flax ( I use chia seeds )

Put in blender. I use the coconut water that's sweetened though. :)

I ♥ both! :D

Now, can anyone tell me how to make kale taste better?

I saute some garlic in olive oil, toss in the kale and some low sodium chicken broth, and a pinch (or two!) of hot pepper flakes. DELICIOUS!

My 6 yr. old daughter LOVES kale chips too! She would eat the whole tray as well. So yummy and so healthy! I wish my 9 and 11 year olds were convinced....I think the green scares them! That being said, my 11 year old daughter would sit and eat a bowl of steamed brussel sprouts! I like your idea of roasting them in olive oil and salt. Gotta try this!

Kelly

Well, I love BOTH but every time I steam them the stench makes me wonder what that rotten smell is -- SO glad they taste much better than they smell:D
