Hi everybody,

I have been taking a glucosamine, MSM, Chondroitin daily, but my problem is every month I try a different brand because I don't know which works best. Can anyone recommend a brand??? Or is there another joint support formula that works better??? Thanks all for your input.

Sincerely,
Dina

Hi Dina,

I did the same thing when I started taking Glu-Cho but stopped when I stumbled across Flex-a-min. I don't really know why, it just seemed to me that it offered a slight edge over the others so I've been using it now consistently for probably 6 months or more. Flex-a-min unfortunately is just a little more expensive, not very much more, but slightly more than some of the others. I usually get a bottle of 80 for $16. at Wal-mart.
I do plan to try out a new brand called Osteo-biflex in the near future just to see if it offers me anything more. I saw a commercial for it recently and it impressed me when talking about the benefits it offered as far as permanent joint support and mobility. It's the one with the frankenstein dude doing yoga. So I'll try that next and see, and if it's a winner I'll go with it other than that I'll stick with Flex-a-min.

You guys must be inside my head because just this morning (as my shoulders were clicking through S&H Shoulders) I was thinking about posting about this!

My brother-in-law has been telling me to get on Glu-Cho forever to take care of my crackling and popping (nothing painful, just noisy!).

Donna, I am going to try the flex-a-min at your suggestion but please keep us posted on the Osteo-biflex and your opinion of it.

Question: did your doctors recommend taking it? My bro-in-law said he was advised by his doctor; I just get apprehensive about supplements.

Thanks for reading my mind!

Mikie,

I believe I initially got the suggestion from right here on the forum like 18 months ago or so. I remember I was posting about my knees I think and someone gave me the suggestion. I think the post(er) said her husband was advised by his doctor and that it had done wonders for his knees so after that and several other positive posts about Glucosamine-Chondroitin, I asked my doctor and he said it was fine. He said that not everyone has benefits from it depending on how degenerated their joints were, but that those who do benefit seem to rave about it. So I went ahead and tried it and the rest as they say is history! :)

p.s. I even tested the theory and went off them for 1 month several months ago and with in 3 weeks I could feel the difference! My elbow and knee joints were effected in just 3 weeks. My knees were making the popping sound with every squat and my elbows felt the stress of heavy upper body work. So back on the Glu-Cho I went and in 2 weeks all popping and discomfort was gone again!

Thanks Donna,

It is funny because I went to Pathmark on Monday to buy Fle- a- min because it was on sale, but they had no more. I am going to definitely buy it this weekend. Keep me updated on the new brand you are trying.

Sincerely,
Dina

This thread really interests me. I just started taking Glucosamine 3 days ago. A friend recommended this brand, Life-Line, it's a liquid, raspberry flavored. Tastes really yucky. I started taking it because the joints in my fingers were bothering me, like a dull ache. I'm hoping it's not the start of some sort of arthritis. My friend said it really helped her aching knees. How long did it take you guys to feel any results? I haven't felt any difference yet. Is there any certain brand that you feel is better than another or are they all basically the same?

Sharon................

It took about 3 weeks before I felt a noticeable difference in my knees and probably 4-6 weeks before I was completely comfortable in my knees.

Now, it could just be my imagination, but in all the brands I used over the past 18 months or so, to me Flex-a-min has been the best. It's the only one I ever tried with MSM in it and I'm wondering if it's that extra element that gave it the edge? My joints may have been a little arthritic, not sure?

I am going to try one other brand, Osteo-Biflex in about 2 weeks when my current supply of Flex-a-min runs out. The ad for Osteo-biflex leads me to believe that the results it gives you are permanent. That the benefits of cartiledge support and flexibility to the joints become permanent over time, so if this is true than it is a cut above everything else I've tried as their benefits are contingent upon consistent use and disappears when you stop using them.
So I'll keep you informed once I try it. :)

RE: Sharon................

I can not say enough good things about glucosamine/chondroitin!

Five years ago, I could not lift my shoulder - it was completely frozen. If I turned over on it at night, I would wake up crying. I started with one tablet 3 times a day - I noticed a difference within a week. After a month, my pain was gone, and I had complete mobility. I stayed on a maintenance dose of one tablet a day for 3 more months, then quit taking it.

I had no problems for five years, then a few weeks ago, began to feel a dull ache in the same shoulder. I started the gluco/chon last Sunday (one tablet 3 times a day), and, after 5 days, am pain-free!

I buy whatever's on sale.

RE: Sharon................

I use gluco/chon/MSM and bought a huge bottle at Sam's Club -- it was probably about a 2/3rds of the cost of Flex-A-Min and the ingredients are the same (I also buy generic Tylenol and Advil :) )

I also cut back to taking 1 pill per day instead of 3 with no ill effect. You may want to check and see if a lower dosage works for you (another cost saving measure)
