Body Pump - What is the attraction??

We just added Les Mills' Body Pump classes to our class schedule and people are flocking it to like moths to a light bulb! I just don't get it, what is the attraction?? I've taken the class before and it just seems like not much of a workout what with all the breaks between songs and in order to stay with the beat you can't put that much weight on your barbell. Plus, it also is a lot of the same stuff over and over. However, there are so many people who won't even try any other workout. Can someone explain to me what the heck is the deal??

I agree - I even bought the Body Pump Package from Beachbody - all I can say "BORING" - repeated the same exact thing over and over again. I only did it half way and I was bored to tears - went right back to Cathe (she's the best!!!).

Are there other weight classes offered? When I was a gym member a long time ago I did a class similar to that (this is before I found Cathe). I didn't know what I was doing regarding weights and did not feel comfortable going into the weight room. I also felt I needed an instructor of some sort to follow, otherwise I wouldn't push myself as hard. Maybe that's the reason?

Here are a few reasons I liked Body Pump:

-- Great music!!!
-- Total Body workout in less than an hour
-- Although it is endurance-based, I saw significant strength gains (and weight loss) with that type of training
-- The breaks between songs are not that long, so some parts of the workout have a "cardio effect"
-- In a group class setting, the energy can be very motivating

Several years ago when I first started back with exercise, I really liked that Body Pump gave me a doable starting point.

Many people want to do weight training but don't know where to begin or can't afford a personal trainer. Body Pump or a similar style class gives people the opportunity to get a good, endurance-based weight workout in a fun and motivating environment.

Btw, I bought the home version of Les Mills Body Pump, and I really liked it!

I have done Cathe workouts for many years including STS 2X. I love Body Pump for all of the above reasons. It is fun, fast, light weight, hi rep and gets the job done.

Music

The music is really awesome in Body Pump.
My niece and I used to alternate Spinning with Body Pump. I didn't go to it quite as much because I'm apple shaped so there really was no need to do that many low end or regular squats for me.
I needed bigger legs not skinnier ones.
But the music was really good and it is a fun workout.
