Body Max Subsitution for August Rotation

JumpHigher

Cathlete
I need to make a few substitutions for the August rotation. Body Max might be a little tricky. I read Cathe's breakdown for Body Max. It is:

24 minutes step
20 minutes circuit:
(5 cycles of -- high intensity step, plyo step, legwork w/weights)
20 minutes upper body
7 minutes abs

I can modify most of this pretty well, but was wondering about the circuit portion. Should I insert five Imax2 intervals here? Or, maybe some Imax2 blasts only?

Also what are your opinions for the 20 min. upper body. I was considering the upper body split premix from ME or Bootcamp. Would that be on par with the upper body portion of Body Max?

Thanks for your help! :)

If you have the CTX DVD, I would suggest the following substitution for Body Max cardio:

CTX Step + Intervals warm-up and regular step segment
CTX Power Circuit circuit segment

The combined running time of the above substitution is about the same as the Body Max cardio and power circuit segment.

IMHO, the Upper Body Split premix from ME would probably be more akin to the Body Max upper body segment than the Boot Camp upper body premix.

Hi A-Jock,

Thanks for helping me out. I don't have CTX (still waiting for it to be restocked).

Do you have other suggestions for the step/circuit?

I have the Intensity Series, Body Blast Series, Hardcore Series, Slow & Heavy, Pure Strength, Cardio Hits, Mega Step Blast, Rhythmic Step ... um, I think that's it.

Thank you! :)

Hi Marla,

I had the same dilemma as you...have a quite a few Cathe programs but always need to modify for something because I don't own them all. I will actually be substituting Cardio&Weights for Body Max...have't done it in awhile and I figure it's probably just as good. I'll go ahead and do the core work at the end of C&W then pop in PUB and do the down premix but not the abs. I will be modifying several other days as well , mostly repeating IMAX 2 for the days that require other IMAXs bc I don't have the others and also adding in walk/jogging on some other cardio days. I'm just trying my hardest to substitute the closest workout for that particular days goals. I'd be happy to share my other modifications for other days if you're looking for another suggestion. I'm looking forward to this! YIKES, I'm gonna have to sleep in the freezer to ease my muscles.

Hi, Marla! Let's see . . . a good temporary substitution for Body Max . . .

OH! OH! I KNOW!

I-Max 2, set on the standard workout (i.e. no premixes):

Perform the workout as produced through Interval / Blast #4 and its recovery; THEN
Perform the mid-range aerobic segment and its blast, grab the remote and hit the PAUSE button immediately after the blast, grab your barbell and bang out 32 squats or plie squats, or 16 lunges per leg. Do this variation for each remaining interval / blast 5 - 10. That will give you approximately the same number of resistance cycles as Body Max, as well as the same amount of step aerobics time- and intensity-wise.

Thanks, A-Jock! :)

Now, another question. Doesn't it matter if I follow the Body Max sequence; i.e., 24 min. step, 20 min. circuit, 20 min upper body, 7 min. abs.

I still need to fit in the upper body & abs. :D

Marla

Hi again, Marla! In this case, I do think you should follow the Body Max sequence i.e. 20+ minutes of step without circuits followed by 20+ minutes of step WITH circuits. And yes, I do think that the rest of the sequence, i.e. 20 minutes of upper body followed by the abs, should be done as listed. The ordering of exercises is often as important as the exercises themselves. As far as fitting in the upper body and abs, you could do a Pyramid UP or Pyramid DOWN upper body premix from PUB, and then do its ab segment.

Hey, Marla,
I'm going to do this:
25 Step from Step Pump Jump
20 Bootcamp cardio and lower premix
20 Uppers from Muscle Max
Abs from PUB

Thoughts anyone?

Hi Amy,

Here's what's on my docket:

SJP step only
Imax2 blasts (10 -- with recovery times included)
Upper Body Split premix from Muscle Endurance
Abs from Muscle Endurance

I haven't tried the Bootcamp cardio/lower premix. Have you done that before? Maybe that would be closer to the BodyMax circuit?

Marla

Yes, I've done it many times and its pretty tough. You'll do one minute of cardio and one of legs alternating. Skip the warm up on the premix and you'll get right into the cardio and leg cycles.

Okay, Amy. I'm going to do that instead of the Imax2 blasts. Thanks for your help. :)

I might even opt for the PUB up or down premix. I'll decide when I get there. :D

Marla

Yep, 20 minutes takes you through the cardio of cycle 7 out of 8 or about 21-22 minutes takes you through the end of cycle 7 including the last leg work. Hard to believe you can do that much work in 21 minutes! :) I

Hi Amy,

Well I did it. :D

Since I did all 8 cycles on the cardio/lower body premix, would the time be about 25 minutes?

Here's what I did:

* Step only premix from SJP
* Cardio/lower body premix from BC
* 200 jumping jacks add on
* Upper body split premix from ME
* 40 Pushups add on
* Abs from ME
