Hi all,
I just had to share this with you. As I have posted in the past, my darling son has suffered from chronic health problems for most of his seven precious years of life. This summer was probably the worst for his eczema - he flared up off and on with Staph infections and has just been miserable, had limited pool time and outdoor time. He has had to be on WAY too many oral and topical steroids and antibiotics due to not only the eczema, impetigo but also from some asthma problems. I could go on and on about his health issues, but it would take a very long time.
My son has seen a dozen- I'm not exagerating about that number different allergists and specialists for not only the tri-fecta of Allergies, Asthma and Eczema but also ADHD - which he was diagnosed as having earlier this year.
We are strong Christians and I have been praying about this for sooo long. God finally gave me the answer... more like he had to shove it in my face after another bout of crying on my part. I felt so stupid that I didn't discover this sooner. I researched yet again except up in Denver vs. Colorado Springs for Pediatric Allergists. National Jewish Children's hospital popped up first.
Then, it was as if the flood-gates had opened. While sitting in church this past Sunday, Randy broke out all of a sudden on his cheek!!! So, off the the Urgent Care. While in the waiting room, I talked to a mom who's daughter has very similar health problems... they took her to Nat'l Jewish and she has been healthy since (provided she abides by the treatment program). As we were leaving with no identifiable cause for the breakout the nurse and I got chatting- she also takes her son to Nat'l Jewish for his problems.
I called first thing Monday morning and had an hour long phone interview with a nurse. They will forward the info to a panel of doctors who will evaluate how extensive Randy's treatment needs to be. It will at the very minimum require the Pediatric Day Program where he will be treated, observed, treated some more, talked to by a host of specialists including a PsychoSocial specialist, Nutritionist, Pulmonary, etc.. We will both take classes to learn how to better manage his illness.
We will be there for several days- all day, stay at least one night for observations of sleep patterns. I'll also get to talk with a lot of specialists as well and of utmost importance get to meet wtih other parents who have gone though what I've gone through- this fact made me burst into tears of relief and joy!
When I read the material they sent to me it all sounds soo perfect- EXACTLY what my son and I have needed. We just want a more normal, healthy, drama free life. It's also my belief that once we get his physical ealth under much better control that perhaps his ADHD will clear up as well.
I will keep you all posted as to the progress of things. It will take a week or two to get through the panel of doctors and for them to iron out the insurance issues. After that, we we get scheduled for the help that has been needed so desperately for so many years.
On a funny note, I started running through which Cathe DVD's I might be able to take with me!! Travel Fit is on the top of my list! Then again, I may full well be tooo exhausted to workout in the hotel room! We'll see!
Thank you all for the support over the past year or so.
Big sigh of relief!
Pam
