BIG BUTT =)

Hello everyone! I have a question. I've slacked up on working out. I still do it 2 to 3 times a week just cardio. I get on the scale and I weigh the same as I did when I was working out 4 to 5 days a week. Heres the question, It feels like my butt is getting bigger. But I weigh the same. If I weigh the same can my butt get bigger? All the cardio I do is step. Do I need to stop doing the step? Do you think the step is making my butt bigger? Do I need to do maybe some running or kick boxing? I do know i need to start working out more again. Any answers would help.

thanks
emily

Emily- could it be that your booty isnt really getting "bigger" but drooping and widening from lack of strength training? Thats what mine does at least..... YES add in some lower body work that isnt just cardio based... I think you want to grow some muscle back there to shape & lift... :D

I'd have to agree that it's probably a reduction in muscle tone. Though some people say that step makes their legs too bulky for their tastes (I don't recall complaints about 'stepper's butt,' however).

Weight will tell you nothing about body composition. You could have lost muscle and gained fat, stay the same weight, but be 'bigger' because 1# of fat takes up more space than 1# of muscle. If you tend to gain weight in your lower body, your booty might be the first place to show it. How are your clothes fitting? That's a much better guide to go by, IMO.

If you only workout 2-3 times a week, I'd focus on making two of those workouts weight training rather than cardio. You can get some cardio effect by doing weight circuits, or combining cardio and weights. You can get the cardio your heart needs by walking, or putting more actiity in your daily lift. Weight training is hard to substitute for, unless you have a job or hobby that has you lifting a lot.

My clothes feel tighter in my hips and butt. I 've been working out for about 4 yrs. but I've been slacking lately. I've got to get back in the groove. What keeps you going?
Thanks Emily

"What keeps you going?"

VARIETY!!! :D I have many differenth workouts by many different instructors. After a while you really get a feel for what type of workouts and instructor you like so you won't buy as much. Somedays you may not want the intensity of a particular instructor or workout and you can have a substitute. At first I thought I was buying too many. What I am finding is that having home workout dvd's is akin to having clothing... you can never have too many and you have different kinds to reflect your mood. With all that, I agree with the two previous poster. You should fit weight training in at least 2-3 times per week. You may want to alternate b/w Cathe w/ heavier weights to a week where you want Slim Series with light weights more reps, to a Jari Love where you have more of a Pump. Just keep trying new things to figure what YOU like!;-)
