bicep work

I've noticed that my heart rate really spikes with intense bicep work, more so than other muscle groups (except for legs). Is that normal? Thank you

I don't know if it's normal, but I tend to exert more on the bicep work and it seems natural that the heart rate goes up. I always ponder why the bicep work seems so much harder than anything else. Is it because Cathe likes to save biceps for the last segment on the weight work and my arms are already tired? Is it because I'm lifting heavier weights for bicep work than I ever have previously? Probably a combination of all the above.

Another reason the HR goes up with bicep work (or any other upper body work) is due to gripping too tightly which forces the blood to pump harder and faster into the arms to get to your fingers. This increases HR and blood pressure. You should never grip too tightly. Check that next time if you haven't noticed your grip.

I'm not saying this is what's happening to you, but it is one cause of increased HR/BP.
