BFL Check In - Week 1

kristi

Cathlete
I hope I am not stepping on anyone's toes by beginning this thread. I did not see one already started and no one specified where we would check in.

Yesterday was the beginning of week 1 for me. I did PUB. Today I am pleasantly sore. My eating has began with a good start and I have a game plan to try to keep me on track. Tonight I plan on doing 20 minutes on the treadmill for my cardio.

Hope everyone is off to a good start as well.

Hi Kristi!

I'm sure this is fine! If not we'll just get moved later! :)

I'm off to a good start too! I began this morning - bright and early with 20 minutes of kickboxing! :) This evening I will do Pyramid Upper Body.

Did you do the same number of reps as Cathe and crew or did you slow down and do fewer? I think I'm going to decrease my reps as mentioned by another poster. I think she said she did her pyramid like this 6-5-4-5-6. I may not go as low in the reps but I will reduce the number. I'll play around with it tonight and post tomorrow!

I hope all is going well with the others too!! :D

Congratuations on your good start!!

Yesterday I followed the reps with Cathe and her crew. However, after a week or two I think I might change it up. Maybe I will lower the reps to 10-8-6. I've also been toying with the idea of doing the second half of the pyramid only. The first set would be a warm up set with light weights and maybe 12 reps and then start with the heaviest weight I can lift with good form for 5 reps and then increase the weight for a set of 8 reps, etc. I've really thought about doing this because I can lift heavier if I start with fewer reps than starting with lighter weight and working up. I might do that for a couple of weeks and then switch to slow and heavy, with a few modifications, for a couple of weeks. I want to keep the muscles guessing what I will be doing next.

Thank you for starting this thread Kristi! I, too, am off to a good start! I did CTX Upper Body today. I went a little heavier than Cathe and reduced the reps where needed. It felt great! I had a Myoplex Lite shake with a little bit of skim milk and the rest water but I am not sure that is enough calores. It didn't seem to fill me up at all! Are you girls using any supplements? I think that I might just try to use the shakes at first and see what kind of results I get. Keep up the good work - the first couple of weeks are the hardest, changing old eating habits is tough! Have a great day!! :D

Hi Sara!

I'm using the EAS AdvantEdge drinks (not the Low Carbs), a whey protein and I plan to get more creatine this week. Not sure if it's going to be EAS or another brand. I may go ahead and get the EAS one from my local Wal-Mart this weekend when I pick up more of the AdvantEdge drinks. A 4 pack is $3.86 which I don't think is bad considering I am only having them during my afternoon breaks at work. I may buy the EAS whey, since it's a smaller container and bring it to work to leave in my desk drawer. I'll go back and forth between the EAS and Vitamin World's Protoplex bar.

Those Myoplex Lite strawberry shakes are delicious! I may buy the MRP packettes for post workouts, seeing how I don't workout with weights until 7:30/8 o'clock at night. This way I won't have to worry about what I cook for dinner for the rest of my household. They can have whatever they choose without me freaking out over the fat calories in my head! LOL!

If I start out trying to eat well, it's gets easier as I go along. I eat fairly well anyway, just don't want to take any chances screwing up right off the bat! :)

Congrats to both of you for hitting the weights right away! It was easy to get going this morning once I reminded myself that I had a group to check in with and had already mentioned that I would be doing some cardio this morning.

Sara - glad to know that CTX Upper body will fit this program because I plan to use Upper Body and Leaner Legs when I get a little tired of the Pyramid set.

I like the strawberry lite shakes too! I bought a pack of mixed chocolate lite shakes and so far they are pretty good. The cinnamon roll recipe for the vanilla shakes is good too!

Okay - I just had DH take my before pictures. OUCH!!!!!!! I am thoroughly nauseated now!!! I have them taped on my bathroom mirror. What a reality check those pics are! I'm trying to keep my spirits up and just use them as motivation, though!!

Anyone else take pictures?

Thanks for starting this!!!!
Today, I weighed myself, ICKIE!!!
I went to take measurments, but couldn't find the tape measure. My kids had taken it and had it in their room. Why, I have no idea. I'll take measements tomorrow, but I'd rather not!
I jsut finished PS BBA. I forgot how tough that is!! I hadn't done the PS series in months, and it was nice to do it.
As for supplements, I've got the EAS Whey, but that's it. I'm going to Wal Mart tomorrow or the next day and get some Myoplex and some other stuff. Nothing much but I'm gonna need it if I'm gonna get 6 meals in everyday. I tired yesterday, but only got 5.
ANd I might have hubby take pics, but again, I don't want to.
In 12 weeks, I sure hope, I'll be better.

Took my measurements but didn't weigh myself! My measurements were high (figured out later why, bloating/pms crap)! So I will take them again this weekend. Hopefully it will be much better! I'll get my scale this weekend too.

I'm afraid to take pictures - we don't have a polaroid and the film would have to be taken out to be developed. I don't want anyone seeing these pic's except me. :-(

Great job everyone!
:) :) :) :) :) :) :)

I was off to a great start today too!!!!! I wanted to do The Viper, but time got in the way, and I did PUB. Tomorrow I am going to do PLB with my Rocker. I have MyoLites, and I ordered some Betagen. I have read many people on another website say it is watered-down Sugar creatine, but I am going to use it anyway. I did take the pics. My eating has been good, and I have 12 weeks before I turn 40 to get in GREAT shape. Great start today everyone!!!
Lori S.

I did weigh and measure today too, OUCH.

I just finished week 8 and i had my DH do my measurements. I lost 3 inches in my chest, 2 in my waist and 3 in my hips. I am doing the 16 week rotation(look in the rotation forum) However, I plan to stop at 12 weeks because i just got the new series and want to start that. If that work out does whatever one says it does to your body I am hoping to lose even more. I am so excited!

I'm using Optimum Nutrition Vanilla Protein powder for 1 shake a day and also in my muffins for breakfast. Breakfast is really hard for me to sit down and eat at home so I thought that adding the protein in the muffin recipe would be great for on-the-go.

Kristi- how you do you do that? Are substituting the protein powder for another ingredient or is it extra? If extra, how do you adjust the recipe? I am planning on purchasing a variety of muffins mixes this weekend and some applesauce to replace the oils/butter the instructions call for.

I would love to make muffins with the extra protein. When it gets warm otside I won't want oatmeal for breakfast and my only option then is to have a meal replacement shake but some days I just need something to chew! :)

I just added 2 scoops of protein powder to the recipe. I also switched out the eggs for egg whites and the oil for applesauce. They are good and moist. I figure that with each muffin I get about 9 grams of protein. If you want more protein then you can always add more powder. Lately I have been burnt out on oatmeal and I needed a quick on-the-go breakfast. Shakes are generally better for snacks in my case. I need something to chew in the morning.

If you go to leannadstrong.com, on the side they HAVE A section on healthy recipes. They are a mostly BFL group, and there is some good stuff on their. I make the muffin recipes they have almost weekly. That is a great site for BFL info. I just ordered some GROW pro powder by BioTest. The people on that website rave about it. I usually use EAS Simply Whey, but it isn't the best tasting. Hopefully I like this better. I have a pro shake with a 1/2 c. fruit every morning before my workout.
Lori

Thanks!

Kristi and Lori! I'm going to try the muffins this weekend and I will poop over to that site today!

I really need to try to get some work done but I'm having more fun here! :7

Angie

Lori,
I popped over to leanandstrong.com last week when you posted about their recipes. They are terrific. In fact I printed out at least 8 that I am going to try on my husband. I'm really glad that he is open-minded when trying new things. This past week I made muffins from a mix, but I'm hoping to make the muffin recipe I found there this weekend.

Hi all! Did everyone have a good workout today?? I did Blast Mania along with Boot Camp core only. I need to check out that website!! I just get so bored with egg whites and oatmeal all the time!! I'm anxious to get some good recipes! Have a great day and remember "Nothing tastes and good as thin (and fit) feels!!"

Oh My WORD......I really felt like working out today, and first I did PLB w/ my rocker, and then I did the leg and cardio premix from BC. I really worked my legs, and hit my 10's. I know tomorrow I am going to feel it, I can feel it already. Tomorrow I am getting up early, and on an empty stomach, I am going to do BlastMania, and some abwork. I also did the core work from BC today. It was a long workout, but fun!!!!
Lori S.
12 more weeks until I am 40.....

Good job! I work out at night so tonight will be PLB. Last night I did my 20 minutes on the treadmill BFL style, but I had to go a little slower than normal and not reach my 10 mark because my tailbone is still sore. However, I am still sore from PUB on Sunday. I love that feeling. At least I know that I got in a good workout.
