Beginner Rotation - starting Monday, August 15, 2011

OK Ladies, don't make me open up a can of whoop a$$. LOLs

I'm w/ you Susan, I can't bring stuff like that in the house either, at least not early on. I like what you said, progress, not perfection. And you didn't use it as an excuse to go crazy on other similar foods. So good for you.

Re rests in work outs, I often have to pause player. But, like Cathe says, take a break, not a vacation. ha ha. I think that is why I like doing one body part more than whole body work outs. Good for you for getting thru, I think you did fantastic. And if you hate tube workouts, find something different that you can stick with. I don't like bands/tubes as much either but I do them when I come up on them in Cathe w/o.

I also agree, sub cardio for similar cardio is OK. What do you enjoy w/ Step? the dance aspect?

Hey Deanna, take some tylenol and go for a fierce walk, if nothing else. Come back and do some sort of push ups and some squats and crunches. Poof, fresh start. : >

I did cardio and wts today from ding to dong and have had pretty clean diet. Good for me since I took a few days off after hurting my knee, but I could have been doing upper body. Thanks for the nice welcome, you guys are great. I appreciate the support!

Faithnveggies - I think we need a can of that whoop a$$.... or at least we need our a$$e$ whopped today.... geeze... we really got off track..

More tomorrow... I'm going to sleep........ Those chocolate cupcakes are making me sick... Yuck.... I can't believe I did that...... geeze.....

Tomorrow is a new day !!!

Faithnveggies - I'm glad you have joined in with our little hardy band of stragglers. We need your encouragement and that can of whoop a$$..... lol

See ya'll tomorrow..... It's a brand new day !!!

We CAN do this..... We ARE doing this !

Go team !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D

Morning Ladies :) TODAY IS FRESH START DAY.

I am feeling better today and I am off to the living room to do Weight Loss Cardio Kick with Violet Zaki (GARAGE IS TO HOT AT 5AM). I have several of her dvds, and I like them because she has someone doing the same exercise she is doing at low impact/beginner level.

Plus I do not want Faithnveggies to open up a can of whoop a$$ on me.....LMAO.....This is what I am talking about workout buddies, holding one another accountable. :)

BBL after workout.

Deanna

Good morning all !!!

Yes.... you are absolutely correct Deanna !!! Today is a fresh start.

I'm not even going to post how many calories I ate yesterday.....
Suffice it to say, I went way over quota... but I'm back on track today.

Since we are "only" doing stretching and abs today, I'm off to the gym to do a couple/3 miles of moderately paced walking to kick start my day and work off some of those awful cupcake calories.... geeze..... I can NOT believe I sabotaged myself that way..... darn..

Tomorrow morning is weigh-in day for me. Should be interesting

I'll check back later....... go get 'em Deanna !!!!!!!!!!!!!

We CAN do this.... We ARE doing this !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Progress, not perfection.......

:) 51 min of Weight Loss Cardio Kick with Violet Zaki . How REFRESHING after doing Basic Step for almost 2 weeks. I was puching, kicking, squatting, lunging and Jumping with and without weights. :) I am going to do this workout in place of Basic Step

Susan, you said today is Stretching? Okay, I am going to incorporate Stretch Max in my day as well.

On my 1st 16oz bottle of water, 84oz more to go.

Susan, enjoy your workout at the GYM and Faithnveggies, thank you for opening up that can of whopp a$$. I needed that!

Off to do house work before going to a BBQ. I will be good with my diet today.

Will check back this evening after I complete Stretch Max.

DEANNA

WTG Deanna. You sound much happier w/ that work out. I bet you would enjoy many of Cathe's w/o, even "advanced" ones if you are OK w/ modifying. I do it all the time, modify down or up, depending on the workout, my body, etc.

Hey Susan, how about a nudge to do some higher intensity intervals on that treadmill? You sound a little too comfy, lol.

I did Low Max in an effort to not jump around too much, but I think I am going to just work upper body and abs for a week or 2 til my knee feels better.

I am glad we are supporting each other, but seriously, I want to enjoy being strong and lean and healthy. I saw a great show on CNN last night w/ that cutie doctor Sanjay Gupta. OMG, Bill Clinton is following a vegan heart attack proof diet. I used to haunt the vegsource and eat this way after I read China Study. Morning Ladies :)

I had a wonderful day at the BBQ yesterday. There was soooooooo much food there and I ate in moderation. I did not over crowd my plate, I did not have dessert (Butter Finger cake). Never heard of that type of dessert before, it looked delious yellow cake, crunched up Butter Finger candy at the bottom, cool whip on the top with more Butter Finger candy. I took my 64oz container with me filled with ice, and I filled it with water upon arrival. :)

Faithnveggies, thank you soooooooo much for the encouraging words. And yes, I did enjoy my workout yesterday. I was only going to do the short version which is 20 min., however I went for it and did the entire dvd 51min. I have several of Cathe's Advance/Intense/Hardcore w/o, I am going to incorporate them all. And if I have to modify them down, so be it.

You are right Fathnveggies, supporting one another is awesome. I look forward to reading what my workout buddies have posted. Again, I read something that said you are more likely to succeed if you have a workout buddy, accountability.

I miss Cyndi, I look forward to her return so she can tell us all about her trip. :)

I too would love to be strong, lean, toned and healty. And that interview with President Clinton, is very interesting. No Meat (only seafood sometimes which I love), No Dairy, No Oils (including Olive, Sunflower, Canola, etc) all of this would be difficult for me. However, I can see how this type of diet would make someone lose weight, lean, healty and strong. Maybe something to look in to further.

Susan, I hope you enjoyed the GYM yesterday. I would love having a Treadmill and Spinn Cycle at home. Maybe that is something I can work towards.

Today is cardio only, which is great. I will find something in my dvd libary to do (Kick Max, Low Max, High Step, Low Impact Step, Total Body Sculpting, The Firm, Weight Loss Cardio Sculpt, Weight Loss Cardio Kick or even Tae Boe), but I know I am not doing Basic Step. Maybe I will revisit Basic Step in the future. :)

Deanna

PS: I think I will just wash my Jeep today, that will be my cardio. Someone turned there sprinklers on my Jeep at the BBQ yesterday. My Jeep is Black and there are water spots everywhere, plus it was already dirty and could use a good wash. :)

Good morning FnV and Deanna !!!

Deanna - you did super terrific with your Cardio Kick workout ! Wow !!! I'm impressed. And... you did terrific with your eating at the BBQ. That's the most difficult for me.... eating out with friends. Congratulations.

I did 3 miles on the treadmill yesterday .. then came home and did abs and stretch.... and... I stuck to my eating plan !!

1651 calories
49.2 grams total fat
10.8 grams saturated fat
only 40 oz of water though... need to do better on that today or Deanna will be kicking my butt as well as FnV... lol

and.... big news....... since it's Monday morning... I weighed myself.

I lost 1 1/2 pounds in Week 2. 43 1/2 left to go !!!!

FnV - I've often toyed with the idea of following a vegetarian diet and/or a vegan one. In theory, they really appeal to me. I've read Dr. Gabe Mirkin's book..... he does plant based with some fish.....

but I honestly don't know what I would eat.... and don't know that I could stick to it long term.

I have switched primarily to non-processed foods. Oatmeal and brown rice for carbs. Lean protein with lots of non-fat Greek yogurt. Eggs. Fresh fruit. Fresh and frozen (with no other processing) vegetables. Olive oil. Butter made with olive oil.

But when you listen to Dr. E. he bans all dairy, eggs and fish and oils.

Yikes... I'm not sure I could ever do that...... and there are so many conflicting reports. Yes.. olive oil is heart healthy (and avocados and nuts.) No they aren't. Fish is good... you need the Omegas.... No, fish is not healthy.....

It's all very confusing..... sigh. So I just continue to follow the middle road of no processed food and a low fat diet. But... I think I'll re-read Dr. Mirkin's book this week and see how it differs from Dr. E. It's been a while since I read it last......

We begin Week 3 today !!! Yea team !!!!

Today is cardio and lower body ......

I'm off to the gym to do 3 miles on the treadmill.... then home to do step and the lower body add on from Basic Step... since this is our last week on this particular rotation, I'll overlook my aversion to the dreaded tubing and just do it... lol

I really do better if I go to the gym first thing every morning. It jump starts my day. FnV - I do interval training on the treadmill once in a while. I think I'll do that on the days that we don't do step/cardio on Cathe's program and just continue to do my moderate walk on the days, like today, that we do do step with Cathe..... I'll try that for a week and see how it works out.

I'll check in later in the day...

Have a wonderful holiday !!! As always, thank you for the support and encouragement......

We CAN do this..... We ARE doing this !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Deanna - I just caught your P.S...... lol. Don't forget... today's program is cardio AND lower body.

So if you're going to do CarWash Max as your cardio, then you still have to do a lower body workout.... just sayin' :p

FnV - it sounds like a week or 2 of abs and upper body only to let your knees fully recuperate is a good idea. That's one thing I love about Cathe's workouts... there are soooooo many choices. Let us know, please, how that works..

off to the gym I go..................

Susan, I did 2 hours of CarWash Max which included Upper & Lower body (6am - 8am) the sun wasn't even up. That was just the outside of the Jeep, I still need to clean the inside. I Washed and Waxed the Jeep. I still need to do House Cleaning & Laundry Max as well. I think this all counts as my daily workout. :) I am going to log this in my workout manager.....lol

Time for a nap. :) Then I will get up and finish everything else (Vaccumm the inside of the Jeep, Laundry, Dishes, Bathrooms, Floors, etc.,).

Alrighty, got my upper body and abs done with ME from Intensity series. I'll do push ups and dips on in between days to increase my form and reps.

Nutrition talk- that low fat vegan diet resonates for me as a a natural healthy way to eat. I used to follow it but at this point, I'd have to make a lot of shifts. In addition to snack foods, I have hb eggs, chicken breasts, whey protein shakes, etc.... hmm, we'll see how it goes. I just thought it was really interesting that Pres. Clinton had switched it up.

Deanna, I could use a little House Max over here, too bad i don't have that one cued up!

The perfectionist in me tends to agree w/ Susan that car wash doesn't count as weight training, but the other side is willing to find balance life and make fitness work. That is actually a goal for me and something that helps keep me on track. So to me, not doing a wt training on an otherwise physical day isn't a big deal if it doesn't otherwise derail you.

Susan, great job and keeping up w/ the rotation as well as getting in some gym time! Awesome job on moderation at the BBQ Deanna.

FnV

Deanna - I am in awe of your energy level !! Great job. I can't believe you were out there at 6:00 a.m. washing your Jeep. I don't know how you do it. Yard Max last weekend in that heat and now 2 hours of CarWash Max and then housework and laundry and everything else. I was only teasing you about the other.... lol. I wish I had half your energy !!!

I did 3 miles of moderate walking on the treadmill at the gym and then this afternoon I did the lower body add-on thingie with the dreaded tubing. I did not do Step however. So I'll do Basic Step tomorrow on our "rest day" to catch up.

FaithnVeggies - I agree that a low fat vegan diet sounds extremely healthy, but I just don't believe that I could keep at it for the long term. I have pretty much eliminated processed foods and I don't eat a lot of meat... but I do eat some beef (ground beef in casseroles), seafood, eggs. I'm trying to eat more veggies. I already eat a lot of fresh fruit and whole grains. I'm just trying to clean up my diet little by little as I go along.

Week 3 - We are off and running !!! We are all doing great. I'm real proud of us. We are a great team !!!

We CAN do this !!! We ARE doing this !!!!!

See you in the morning..... :)

Morning Ladies :)

Today is REST day on the Beginner Rotation calendar. :) I think I am going to do Stretch Max or Beginner Yoga after work today. My Upper & Lower body is a little sore from Cardio Kick w/weights and CarWash Max.

My time off from work was grrrrrrrrrreat and I took advantage of all 3 days. :) Rest Saturday, 51min of Kick Cardio (very fun) Sunday, and Monday CarWash, Housework, Laundry Max.

Susan, thank for the compliment regarding my energy level. :) I actually have to force myself, I am a sluggish person by nature. Remember I am a Single Mother if I do not do it, it will not get done. I can be sooooo tired resting in bed and when I think about what needs to be done around the house, I kick my feet up, throw them over the side of the bed and hit the ground running. I force myself to keep moving until I can't do it anymore and need to take a nap.....I know you were just teasing regarding the other.....No harm no foul...... :)

How did you do with your WATER consumption yesterday? I filled my 64oz container up twice. I am going to fill my 100oz container with Ice before work and fill it with water upon arrive, so I do not have any problems with the Ice Police....lol

Yesterday did mark the beginning of week 3 for us. Wow how time flies when you are having fun. :) Are you noticing a difference in the way your clothes fit and congrats on your weight loss. I am only going to weigh myself once a month.

Time for me to get ready for work. Ladies I hope you have a wonderful & Blessed day. :)

Deanna

Good morning ladies !!!

Deanna - You surely are not a sluggish person...not from what I've seen. Raised your son alone, work fulltime, take care of the house and yard and you are now taking care of yourself by exercising (before work most days !!!!), eating right and drinking tons of water. Certainly does not sound like a sluggish person to me. You are doing fantastically well !!!! Keep it up....

I understand the "if I don't do it, it doesn't get done" syndrome. I live alone so I have the same problem. However.... HUGE difference... I'm retired so have all day to get things done, whereas you are working full-time. HUGE difference.

As I said last evening, on our rest day today, I'm going to do Basic Step that I didn't do yesterday so I'll be caught up. It's only 20 - 25 minutes so won't be too bad... lol

Deanna - I KNEW you were going to notice that I didn't mention water consumption yesterday.... lol. I knew I wouldn't get that one past you... I only drank 30 oz yesterday.... I shall do better today... I promise !!

Okay... report for yesterday, Monday, Sept 5, 2011

Calories: 1697 a little over, but not bad... progress, not perfection
Total fat: 47.2
Saturated fat: 11.9 (this is the one I've really been concentrating on)

30 oz of water

treadmill: 3 miles Upper Body workout

I'm going to go do Basic Step now before I get distracted.

Have a wonderful day everyone !!!!

I hate my internet.

Did I say I hate my internet:mad::mad:

Good afternoon, (for the second time)

Deanna, Sorry to say my trip was a work weekend for a family member of dh. But , I did work and worked hard and able to because of Cathe.:D
You would be proud of my water intake it was thru the roof.

sounds like you guys are doing great on workouts .

I have lost 2 lbs this week. :D:D

sat workout was travel fit, sunday rest, Monday travel fit and stretch max.

I will try to post again later,

Cyndi

Welcome back Cyndi :) You were truly missed.

Congrats on your water consumption during your time away, I am proud. :) And you lost 2 pounds in one week? How the heck did you do that? I am doing my best not to get on the scale until 9.22.11, which will be exactly one month to the date that we started exercising.

Susan has been wonderful, keeping me on track and being so positive with her encouraging words. I am sure she will chime in sometime soon to say welcome back. We have also been getting some great advise from Faithnveggies. This woman is dedicated and very , knowledgeable in fitness. Checkout previous post.

Well I am still at work, one hour to go. Will check in tonight after I do Yoga or Strech Max.

Deanna

Good evening everyone !!!

Cyndi - Welcome back !!!! We missed you. Sorry to hear that you are still having problems with your Internet connection and also sorry to hear that Labor Day was a "work" weekend. And here I thought you were off having a nice mini-vacation. But it sounds like you did real well with your workouts. Way to go !!

Deanna - thank you for your kind words. You are so encouraging to me. You all are. I would never have kept up with the program if it hadn't been for all 3 of you. Thank you Deanna, Cyndi and Faithnveggies !!!

I had a good day.... details in my official morning report :)

We got heavy rain off and on all day from the remnants of Tropical Storm Lee heading up the Appalachian Mountains from the Gulf Coast. We needed the rain so it was great. Made for a dreary and dismal day though. And we did have one scare when there were some possible tornadoes in the general vicinity, but they dissipated so it was okay in the end.

Off to find something low cal/low fat for dinner !!!!

See you in the morning....

Tomorrow is Basic Step and Upper Body... I think I'm going to try Low Impact Step for the step part.... and maybe do Total Body Sculpting instead of the Upper Body add on. I did Total Body Sculpting one day last week and liked it, so I may do it again.......

Good Evening everyone, just finish 30 min of beginner yoga. I am sooooooo relaxed, maybe I will get a good night sleep.

Susan, now you know I noticed that you did not mention any water consumption. Whats up with that? I am still working on my 100oz from this morning, it is almost gone. Been running to the bathroom all day. At certain times knocking people over to get to the bathroom.................lol

So, tomorrow is Basic Step and Upper Body. I will do cardio from one of my many dvds and upper body from Basic step. Will post after I complete it, see everyone in the morning.

Deanna

:) Morning workout buddies :)

Just finished 18 min of Body Fushion, which included Warm-up, Step Combo 1 and weight segment 1. I also did upper body. Body Fushion is intense! However, I found it to be a really good workout.

Working on 100oz of water.

Really enjoyed Yoga For Beginners after work yesterday. My Yoga dvd have 2 Yoga workouts one for Solar (Sun 25min) and the other is Lunar (Moon 25min). I did the Lunar program, I was soooooooooooooooo relaxed afterwards and I slept very well. I am going to incorporate this daily in the eveinging for relaxation.

Okay time to get ready for work.

Deanna

Good morning ladies !!

Great job Deanna !!! You have inspired me to go do my workout now.... as soon as I finish typing this..... Yea team !!!

Yes... I've watched Body Fusion a couple of times from the comfort of my chair and it looks like a great workout. As I said last evening, I think I'm going to try Low Impact Step for the step part of today's program and then do Total Body Sculpting instead of the Upper Body add-on. But that may change once I get to the living room  But I will do some form of cardio and upper body !!!

Deanna - I had been taking a weekly class at the gym that is a mix of tai chi, yoga and pilates, but I have stopped since we started this program. I do love that class though.. it's a combination of some strength required for the poses, lots of flexibility and balance and very very relaxing. It sounds like your Yoga DVD is wonderful !!!

FaithnVeggies - I pulled out my copy of a book called "The Healthy Heart Miracle" by Dr. Gabe Mirkin. He advocates a modified Mediterranean style diet.... lower in fat than a true Mediterranean diet and no meat of any kind.

It's:
5 servings of vegetables per day,
5 servings of fruit,
unlimited beans/pea/legumes,
unlimited whole grain (but it has to be true whole grain),
up to 3 servings of non-fat dairy (has to be non-fat)
up to 2 servings of seafood,
up to 2 TB nuts/seeds,
up to 3 teaspoons of olive oil

For me, that's do-able although I don't like fish, so that's a problem. But I do like shrimp, crab, scallops....... I do have ground beef in casseroles a couple of times a week though. Just a little bit. As I've said before, I just use one meatball size bit of ground beef in the casserole just for a little flavor.

Anyway... I haven't been following it exactly, but it's my overall guideline.

okay... the good, the bad and the ugly... lol

Official Report for yesterday, Tuesday, Sept 6, 2011

Goals vs Actual

Calories < 1600 Actual : 1784 (I have an excuse... lol)
Total Fat < 48 Actual: 43.5
Saturated Fat < 12.5 Actual: 11.6

Water consumption: 50 oz Actual: 30 oz (uh oh... I'm in trouble  )

Workout: Rest Day Actual: did Basic Step to makeup for Monday

All in all.... not bad... I'm happy with it.... The excuse cough.. cough.. cough... for the excess calories was a thunderstorm that came rolling over head with a loud boom of thunder and lightning that woke me up and I couldn't get back to sleep and wandered to the fridge and pantry.... uh huh.... that's my excuse.... lol

I have found that if I don't drink my allotted water, that I want to eat more. Lesson learned. When I think I want a snack/meal but it's not because I'm hungry..... drink water !!

Have a wonderful day ladies.... I'll check back in later this afternoon.
