BE HONEST - How much do you spend on clothes a year??

>I would say probably $300-$500 per year. Clothes and shoes
>are not what I want to spend my money on. That is why I don't
>buy trendy stuff. They go out of fashion so quickly and then
>I feel like I've not gotten my money's worth out of them.
>It's actually pretty sad, I would rather spend some of our
>extra money on buying my kids (4 & 1 year olds) clothes
>instead.
>
>We are doing good financially too. For the most part we spend
>our extra money on things we would like to have around the
>house. My DH is very lucky I am not high maintenance and
>would rather save money than spend it.

Kristi, thank god...I was beginning to feel like a serious underachiever in the fashion department! :+ I do the same, buy classic stuff that lasts forever. I'm pretty frugal too. Also helps that I just don't like shopping, and also don't work outside the home.

I am, however, in the market for a pair of hot cowboy boots :D Probably get those for Xmas.

Probably less than 500/yr. I break down and buy stuff when I have too....I'm very frugal have many suits that are 10 years old. I would rather spend it on Cathe DVD's, houses and daughter's college ed...

Recently...my DH finally forced me to buy a new bra, actually took me to VS when the last VS bra I had gave it's last harrah in the washing machine ensnared in my hubbies jock strap! I wore it anyway with a safety pin keeping it together. You should have seen the look on the VS salesladies face when I showed it to her and said I just want the same one in black. She said I'm sorry maam...we have never seen this style before..!

Crap. Your old bra & your DH's jock are getting more action than I am. Apparently your washing machine is really the place to be.

I have no idea how much I spend a year, but I think I have a different clothes buying attitude than most. First of all I wear scrubs to work, which is really nice, because I don't have to buy suits and stuff. So I only buy casual clothes. I try to buy as few items as possible (HATE clutter) but have every thing be something I LOVE- even if it cost way more than I wanted to spend. So, I bought a pair of $80 jeans in January, but I love them and wear them constantly, and haven't bought a single pair of pants since then. I also just bought an $80 sweatshirt, but I plan on wearing it allllll the time! When a new season comes around, I usually buy just one pair of shoes and then a couple of key items that I can wear all the time. I would totally buy a $200 sweater, then throw it on over everything. When I'm buying going-out stuff (even though I'm 33 and older than everyone else there by 10 years, i love clubbing!) I buy cheap stuff from Forever 21, since I know I'll only wear it 5 times before it goes out of style. I never buy stuff that I only kind of like just because it's cheap--that turns out to be a big waste of money in my opinion.

I spend at least $2000, probably a little more. I mean that averages to only $175.00 per month. I now I spend that much by just buying something her, something there. It all adds up fast.

I do admit I buy alot more now that I try to dress nicer for work - before I could get by wearing scrubs to work bc it was a shelter I used to work for - since I graduated I had to add nice skirts/slacks/button downs ect...

Button down shirts are not cheap either and the cheap ones don't wear well! I LOVE shopping though and its hard for me to NOT buy new yoga pants and yoga hoodies - - I LOVE LOVE LOVE buying that stuff -I hate buying stuff for work, but I have to!

My sister wears a shirt maybe once or twice and never again - she is awful! SO HIGH MAINTENENCE THERE - There are people's closets I have been in that have tags on their clothes from a few years ago bc they have so many and don't even think twice about dropping a few hundred a week on new stuff - HELLO! I just don't have that kind of money! But that would be nice ;)

Namita - it totally adds up quick

A new pair of socks or hose and new bra or undies and I have about $50 walking out of Target or VS and if you buy two shirts for work that are even on sale its at least $40 and there you go! Almost another $100 spent!

I think that definitely winter clothes wear and keep better - sweaters last forever - its the spring/summer clothes that don't seem to keep as well......hmm

I wouldn't really know. Although, it's been a lot more in the last year that others, especially since losing almost 70 lbs and going from size 22 to 12!!! With that includes buying new uniforms for work and new workout clothes (now that's a priority!!!) and shoes. I honestly couldn't say, but I do know that I spend more on DH for clothes than myself. Most of the clothes I buy for myself tend to come from the Tres Chic boutique at WalMart! And I don't hardly purchase anything full price. Heck, I just dropped $200 at Dick's Sporting Goods a couple of weeks ago for about 15 clearance priced workout tops/shorts (all Nike, UnderArmour, etc).

I refuse to answer that on the grounds that I may incriminate myself!

Bear in mind, I am spending GBP Pounds rather than Dollars - everything is way more expensive over here! But I do buy a lot of loooovely clothes.:) My DH says I'm worth it.}(

RE: BE HONEST - How much do you spend on clothes a year...

Interesting question, when I worked for Dillard’s man oh man that’s all I did was shop like crazy on the average I probably spend around $500 a week, honest, It was sad. But, I have always been a clothes freak. I like nice clothes and will pay a nice buck for them.

I have about 4 closet of clothes now. Sick, I know every closet in my apartment is full. I have a closet with only tops the other pants the other dress and the other suits, sick I know  :9 x(

But, now on the average, since I have slacked wayyyy up, maybe $1,200 to $2,000 a year. My children are grown so its just me now YEAH…:p excuse me but it is a wonderful thang.

Geez...a couple hundred maybe a year, but this b/c I'm home w/ a messy toddler ;) When I worked maybe a bit more but not a whole lot beyond that. I hate spending too much money for clothes.

Age only matters if you're cheese.

RE: BE HONEST - How much do you spend on clothes a year...

I have no clue, but my DH says right around 2,000 although I think that's high. But that would include shoes, exercise clothing. I teach high school and don't wear jeans to work. I hardly buy summer or weekend wear, but I do have a few very nice classic outfits that last, but as a teacher, I don't want to look totally out of date, so I do update yearly. My 2 older kids went to the school where I teach as does my youngest and they keep me in line as far as fashion. And this may seem somewhat juvenile but I don't like to wear outfits too often, because I KNOW that the students are noticing EVERYTHING about me, so at least I try to look professional.

RE: BE HONEST - How much do you spend on clothes a year...

When I worked in the fashion industry at the head office of a major Canadian women's retailer, we had a tracking program that tracked purchases by phone number. One day I asked the girl who administered it to check my purchases over the past two years. $4200. And that was only at the company I worked for. Didn't include shoes, underwear, clothes purchased at other retailers, sample sale purchases... yikes. I can't imagine that now. I hate shopping. Embarrassingly enough, my SO buys lots of my clothes, because I'm just useless at it.

RE: BE HONEST - How much do you spend on clothes a year...

Wow, I'm embarrassed to admit how much I spend. A LOT!

I don't know exact figures, but it does add up pretty quickly.

Okay, I'll confess... I'm guessing I probably spend $10K a year.
