BE HONEST - How much do you spend on clothes a year??

RE: BE HONEST - How much do you spend on clothes a year...

I spend about $150, if I get motivated enough to go shopping.

OK JeanneMarie I must come and check out your wardrobe :7 I also need to talk to DH and up my clothing allowance LOL!! JK about the clothing allowance. I never ask DH if I can buy clothes, I just do it!! But JeanneMarie, you must be a fashionista!!

BTW, I asked DH how much he thinks I spend on clothes per year and he said oh about $1500 (in his mind thinking that's alot). Of course I burst into laughter and he was like uh, you spend more? Haaa Haaa!! He knows where I shop Ann Taylor Loft, Bananna Republic, etc and knows they aint cheap!!

RE: BE HONEST - How much do you spend on clothes a year...

I took a 2 year break from working so my clothes shopping was way down. Probably $2,000-$3,000 a year. Now that I'm back at work I'm sure it will go up to at least $5,000. Funny thing, I went shopping last week and bought a pair of brown and gray pants for work. After that I decided to clean out my closet and reorganize and I found a pair of gray and brown pants I forgot I had and I liked better than the ones I bought. Needless the say, I'll be doing some returning.

I enjoy dressing well. I work out and stay in shape so I figure why shouldn't I buy clothes that I feel good in. My daughter is now done with college and financially independent, DH pays all the household bills so I don't really have anything else to spend my money on but me.

Catherine, I just LOVE clothes. It's my weakness. I love to shop, and clothes and shoes are my favorite things to buy. I do have quite a lot of clothes, for sure.

My favorites are jeans and shoes and really cute tops. Oh, and I love skirts. I enjoy shopping the nice stores (Cache, White House/Black Market, Nordstroms), but it thrills me to no end to find a great deal somewhere too. The other day I was walking through Macy's junior department. They had some of the cutest jeans and I decided to try on a pair that caught my eye. They fit perfectly and they were only $19.99! Wow!

I spent a lot of years buying clothes at places where the quality just isn't there. They don't last, and they just don't fit as nicely. Now that I csn do it, I like to buy good quality things. They look better and they last longer!

I've cut way back on my clothes spending although I still buy suits for work. I do see some new and interesting things I'd liek to add to the collection but I don't follow trends...I like what I like. My big spending comes in shoes (again, I've cut back) as well as regular manicures. pedicures, and the hairdoo. My dearest friend from kindergarten owns the salon so I get a nice discount.

I'd day I spend between $1,200 and $1,500. I'm a personal trainer, and even though I get the Adidas 3-Stripe instructor discount for workout clothes, and the Ryka instructor discount as well, we all know how expensive good shoes and good workout clothes are.

Like any job, it's important to look professional. The good thing is that I take a tax deduction for them since most of the money I spend on clothes is for my job (uniform expense).

I also spend money for my "personal" clothes. My Mom was just teasing me the other day about my clothes and shoes. I've always loved them. I told her...hey there are worse habits to have.

I think if (and when hopefully) we have any children, I'm sure I would spend less on myself.

RE: BE HONEST - How much do you spend on clothes a year...

I probably spend 2K or more per year. I can spend $1000 in one outing.

RE: BE HONEST - How much do you spend on clothes a year...

I think your DH has nothing to complain about. My SIL nevers wears the same thing twice in the same month. She actually keeps track of what she's been wearing all month long! She only buys clearance items, but she's always shopping.

In our house, DH has more clothes than I do. Although I have spent a lot this year (almost 3K) that is primarily because I went from a size 16 to a size 4. Even my socks were too big. So I had to get everything new, and I admit, I did go a little overboard with the workout clothes. It's still the first thing I look at when I walk into a store even though I now have plenty of things to workout with.

My normal budget when my weight is steady is around 1K a year. Tell your DH he is out of touch with current costs for quality clothing.

So how does this deduction work? do I have to wear my clothes exclusively to work? And if I do I can deduct them? Or do they have to be something that would be considered a uniform, like scrubs?

Accually no i was wrong. Durning Christmas time I probally spend around 1000. Then for back to school thats about 500 and the weekends, well say 100 per weekend. Thats a lot but when your a teen, you don't have to spend your own money}( }(

Adri!! 100 per weekend??!! *said with the shock of a mother's voice* Do you work? I have 2 teenage daughters, only 1 of whom is REALLY into clothes, but 100/weekend...no way!!!

RE: BE HONEST - How much do you spend on clothes a year...

I think I'm at about the $1500 range. That doesn't include workout clothes, shoes, bras or undies. I just came back from the mall and spent $185 on 2 bras, 3 panties and 1 pair of shoes. Things are really expensive nowadays! ;)

RE: BE HONEST - How much do you spend on clothes a year...

We budget $100 month per person in our household. The kids are teens and they spend it on whatever clothes they think they need. When you add up coats and shoes, it's not that generous of a budget. I think I spend more like $140 a month on myself. And like some other posters I don't like clutter and don't keep stuff I don't love.

Clothes are fun, especially if you work hard at staying in shape!:)

Isn't this the truth? I love this comment! I think that is precisely one of the main reasons I love clothes... I work so hard to be in shape, and buying nice clothes to accent this is just a plus! :D
