Barbell question

My DH wants to buy me my own barbell for Xmas! (mostly because I steal his!)

So, I need advice between the Troy Lite and the York Aerobic Barbell system. York is cheaper. But their both decent quality manufacturer's. Weight is weight, right?

Here are the links that I was looking at:

I see one is vinyl and one is rubber. What's the difference, pro/cons? And if anyone can point me to a cheaper lender or another choice, please do!

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Hottie, I got the troy light -- bar only -- and bought the weights locally so I didn't have to pay shipping. Someone gave me the advice to buy all weights at the same time or you may not be able to find the same kind when you want to add to your collection, and they might not nestle as nicely. I probably bought more than I needed..... oh well, I have growing boys who may want it someday, right? :)

I was getting ready to post the same site Tami. And it looks like they are cheaper than the site the OP linked.

I love my TL BB :D

I own the Troy Lite bar after reading that Cathe used it in some videos (I knew nothing about barbells prior). The quality of the bar and rubber-encased plates is great.

Mine was also purchased at the Fitness 1st website. Excellent service.

I purchased my Troy lite from fitness1 several years ago. I bought the basics that came with it. I then added to it with plates from Walmart. My plates don't always match but I don't care nor do my 4 walls.

One thing about the rubber plates (I guess when these were new). If you leave them on the carpet for long periods, it mimics the shape of the plate onto the carpet.

Same here as everyone above, a Troy Lite from Fitness 1st. I would get rubber encased plates if you have the choice. Less likely to crack.

Depending on how heavy you want to go, I bought a barbell set from Dick's Sporting good and the barbell itself is only 15 pounds. It was $99 and I really like it and use it all the time. I think every now and then they put it on special or maybe the $99 was on special but it came with 2 smaller dumbbells and 110 pounds worth of weights.

Hope that helps you some.

I have basically the same thing except from Sports Authority. It also came with two smaller bars to make your own DBs with. You get several of each of the following: 2.5 lb plates, 5 lb plates and 10 lb plates. I went to Play It Again Sports and got 2 25s too. I like having a heavier bar b/c it saves plating the extra on. Plus, some bars you screw together and you don't want that - also, make sure that whatever you get has the spring collars and not the screw on.
