Hi everyone...I just got the CTX DVD in the mail.....I previewed it and love it.

I have some othere I just received in a trade....can not wait to try.

I need to know where to find a good price on a barbell. Should i be looking for one to add plates to or should I be looking for a bodybar(I think that is the name.)

Now do not laugh but I have only been using 3-5lbs weight with my firm videos.

My husband has a barbell but it is way to big...I think it is 6 feet. Should I get a 4 or 3.

Thanks for the info.

Tammy

I prefer a barbell, because I think if you are working out with any kind of consistency, you will need to add weights to it, vary the weights for what you are doing, etc etc.

I bought the barbell they use in the CTX videos, and I really like it. It is somewhere between 4 and 5 feet long, I think, and it is a perfect size for most women, in my opinion. It also only weighs 5 lbs with no weights on it, so it is easy on your neck, and easy to store. I don't think I have ever seen a 3 foot barbell.

I bought the barbell from www.fitnessfirst.com I think? It is the Troy Lite. It was $30 including shipping ($12!) and clips. Couldn't find it locally. You can buy the plates from your local sporting goods store so you don't pay for high shipping..or Play It Again Sports. The sporting goods places have shorter barbells than your husbands but they are heavier that the one I have...15lbs, or 10lbs with no weights. Also might work, though. I bought enough weights to make the bar up to 35lbs, and so far...haven't used em all yet!

Enjoy the CTX, I love it!

If I were to get a smaller barbell...would I be able to use my husband plates that he has. We have a whole weighrt bench and set of plates ect...

Sorry new to this....

Thanks

Tammy

That's OK...all of us were new once!

The barbell I have uses standard plates that have 1 inch holes...so, the barbell is one inch in diameter that is. So, if he has weight plates that have one inch holes, they would be perfect. I think there are other weights known as Olympic (?) weight plates that are like, 2.5 inch holes. They would also be ok, but might wobble a little and rattle while you use them (make sure you have clips), if that is what he has.

Even if you have to buy your own plates to fit your own barbell, it would be worth it, they are pretty cheap (like, 50 cents a lb, you could get all the weights you'd need for now, for like 15 bucks, even cheaper if you went to Play It Again) for your lighter weights that you'd need.

A barbell that fits the 2.5 inch ones, and is 2.5 inch in diameter, I think would probably ONLY be the 6 foot long type that weigh like, 50 lbs with no plates, and you don't want that for CTX.

Hi, Tammy! I have the TroyLite barbell system, which has the shorter bar that previous posters mentioned, and rubberized weight plates in various weight-loads. The bar can accommodate up to 80 pounds of plates. I can't remember where I got it, but I think it was thru FitnessFirst, as previously mentioned.

You may also want to think about getting a barbell system that can accommodate a barbell pad, because if you're using it for squat and lunge work, that bar can start to really hurt the back of your neck if it's unpadded.

I really love my Barbie-Troy barbell! It's worth the investment!

I have Troy Lite too -- 5 ft long and 5 lbs and a standard bar (1"). Actually I ordered it from www.fitness1st.com (not www.fitnessfirst.com). I love it. I also got a barbell pad for it for my lower body work.

Another option is the 'Firm'/Ivanko barbell which is padded, slightly shorter than Troy and weighs 10 lbs. I think it's hard to do upper body work (bicep curl, etc) with padded barbell. But it is a matter of personal perference. You can get the Ivanko barbell from www.paragonsports.com or www.orthotechsports.com.

I recently bought Bollinger SlipLock for my barbell ($3/pr from ebay). It is WONDERFUL! It's almost an instant at changing plates. I am in PS rotation right now, and I don't even have to pause the tape to change my plates! You just slipped it right in, and it locks itself. To remove, you just pull on the tab... which is VERY easy to do. I highly recommend this.

I have the Troy Lite and it works with the (1" hole)regular plates I bought at my local sporting goods place.
