Bad form?

I just finished PUB and every time I did any type of press my left elbow area felt like it was popping - it hurts. What am I doing wrong?

Hi jk

Sometimes that would happen to me, it never hurt but felt wierd and popped. I found that I was either using too heavy of a weight or going too low. You may want to try altering one or both of these two things and seeing if that helps.

Good luck. Definately do not keep doing something that is hurting.

That happens to me a lot. It's more of a crackle than a pop though (I guess all we're missing here is a snap LOL).

Anyway, you could have golfer's or tennis elbow, which is another one of those repetitive motion injuries. Probably nothing to do w/your form. You could try a wrap to alleviate the pressure a little.

Is it the elbow on your weaker side? I'm right-handed and my left elbow hates presses and I do them with lighter weights. Too heavy and the pop feels like a tear and it hurts, but just with the French press, lying on the bench. You might try lightening up, increasing the strength of the left side with extra reps or or substituting an exercise. I can dip until the cows' come home! :)

Thanks for all your responses. I will lighten up on the weights a bit. And yes Bobbi, it is my weaker side. I never thought about using a heavy weight on the right and lighter on the left at the same time. Duh.

I go lighter on both sides when working both arms simultaneously. I can catch the weaker arm up by adding extra reps on one side. Otherwise, the stronger arm gets stronger still. And I love the overhead press with a single dumbbell, using both arms. I don't know why but my trouble is only with the extensions, lying on the bench. I don't I feel perfectly stable with my arms extended over my head but not with them extended straight out in front of me lying down?. I would lighten the weight fo both dumbbells if you are working the arms together and just add a set of kickbacks or cross body extensons on the weaker side.
