Good article, and I agree.
When I first found Cathe, back in 2005, I thought, "well, I've busted my butt for an hour, bring on the chocolate cake!!!" Um, yeah, it doesn't work that way. I didn't gain weight, but I sure wasn't losing any at that time, either!!
Also, the only exercise I count, is good, hard exercise. I don't count the walk to the car, the dog walk - unless its far and fast, the schlep up the stairs. And I hit it hard for an hour a day, most days. Any less than that, the weight doesn't budge. And I get ants in my pants from being still.
I hardly ever catch a TV show, thats my workout time, I do have time, just have to make it. Since, I'm not gonna get up at 4 am, I do it when primetime TV is on.
Eating more of something will only help you lose weight if you eat less of something else. More skim milk and less donuts, yes. More skim milk, and the same amount of donuts, no.
And then there's the "happy weight" issue, and I think most of us have a set point where our body is happy at. And food as a social outlet - yup. And our body's instinct to hold on to its stores, I believe that, too. I am always wanting to eat more in the winter - stay warm, hiberate, make it to the next harvest. And less in the summer - its too hot for heavy foods, light cold things are best.
Lots of sense in the article.
