Are your leaves changing???

Is it just me or is this happening super slow this year? Usually by last weekend, I have to do at least the front yard and as of right now, the leaves are STILL green! They are just starting to change!

hubby and i were just mentioning this the other day. yes it seems like its taking super long time for the leaves to fall. i don't know if that is a good thing or a bad thing.

We have some that are still green, and some that are almost fully changed. I think for us it's because it stayed warm for so long into October. They're really starting now though. The Niagara Escarpment looks like a beautiful, fall colours, patchwork quilt:)

From what I've heard, this winter is supposed to be warmer than average, with less precipitation. Let's hope they're right.

You think your jealous, Sarah?

Yes, yes, yes, I can run year round here but, as much as I love to be outside, whether I'm running or not, talk about boring weather!! You can feel the fall crispness in the air here right now and that's all I'm gonna get until March.

I originally hail from NY/PA so I know what I'm missing:(

The mountains behind me are mostly green, but slowly changing here in Virginia. Beautiful today at 81 which is strange. Now it has me worried that if the temps continue to stay warm, does that mean flu season is gonna be bad? I don't even want to think of the Avian bird flu since we are surrounded by chicken farms. Ugh! I am loving it though for now, but hope we don't have to pay later.

Last weekend, a lot started changing, and some just seem to fall drop out of the trees in huge numbers.

Charlotte,

Where in Virginia do you live? I have a cousin in Roanoke. She loves it there. Says it's really beautiful. I've only been to Alexandria and I have a longing to go to Williamsburg, Jamestown, Yorktown, etc. I want to see Monticello and Mt. Vernon. There's so much history there. I think I would love it.

ETA I didn't mean to hikack your thread--sorry:+

Mine are at their peak of georgeous color! Some are now falling on the ground. For some reason they are alot more colorful this year.

hi michelle,

i live in lychburg about an hour from roanoke. roanoke has some great sites in the mountains. during the summer we usually go picnic but one of these days we have to go without the kids and the old parents LOL and try to hike at the Peaks of Otter. lots of history here as well so even when you get up there, they have tours and some old houses still around. we hiked to one up a mountain and i can see why they all left LOL. if i had to do that without comfy shoes i would just have simply died off in those days LOL.

Hey Char, we are at 80 degrees too! It is going to get MUCH colder here as of tomorrow so the warmth may not stick around much longer.

Halloween is always a weird time of year...you may be handing out candy in shorts or in snow gear...ya just never know in Ohio!!!

I am here in Fort Hood, Tx and it is 91 today. I just wish it would hurry up and get cooler because this heat is killing me and my kids. My husband comes home from Iraq next week after being gone for 11 months so I want it to be cooler so we can actually take the kids outside and enjoy ourselves. I think I saw on the weather channel it is going to cool down some next week. I don't want my husband coming home and thinking he is still in Iraq when he gets off the plane!!!

Here in MN it seems unseasonablly warm, too...The leaves have changes, but it's not cool enough to blow out our irrigation system yet...Usually that happens the 2nd week in October!

Checking in from mid-Minnesota. Most of our leaves have dropped already, but the colors were intense and beautiful this year.

I wonder if this is geographical. The rumor in the Sierras is that it will be the same, even a chance of more snowfall than last year. Ugh!! We had a jolly good time last year shovelling and blowing, I can only imagine if it is worse. Good time in my life to have teen aged boys!

Leaves are still mostly green here in southeastern PA. A few are starting to change. It is very late this year. We have been having above average temperatures for the day time highs and lows too.I think that has something to do with it.

They are behind their normal schedule in the Rochester (NY) area for sure. I'm guessing the hot summer and warm early fall are contributers to this. We'll be raking later this year, I just hope we don't get a snow storm befroe we can rake it all! My DS is wishing for piles to jump in!
