Are you supplementing with protein?

Do you guys use whey protein after a workout? I THINK I read somewhere that Cathe uses "gold standard" It's reasonable and I'm sure she's done the research so I was going to get some.

But wondered if you guys use it. I'm working out hard with STS and Shock Cardio, but I'm no giant weightlifter.

Thanks!

I asked Cathe about this, and she said it was fine to use it. And yes, she does use Gold Standard :) I was worried too, but I do feel my muscles are recovering much more quickly now I am taking it; also, you don't have to have TONS just as much as you feel you need: I have one portion a day, plus a little sprinking in some yoghurt. It's also yummy, if you choose the right flavour!

It is safe, and I am very sensitive to A LOT of foods, and it has caused me no problem. Cathe advised me to take it with water though, not milk.

Hope that helps.

Hi Pharoah,
I have been using the whey protein in smoothies probably 3-4x/week - even when I'm not doing STS. Just one scoop (chocolate) is all I use with ice, milk (cow, soy, coconut) and some vanilla yogurt. It's awesome! I also throw in 1 tsp of creatine. Heck, I put in some ground flaxseed too!

I've been feeling great and losing weight too!

I found that I needed "something" to keep up the workouts and this has worked well.

Zozo, did she say why not to use milk? I use Designer Whey and I always mix it with 8 oz milk. I'm wondering if it's just to keep the calories low or if there's another reason behind it...

I supplement with Jay Robb Whey Protein. I am going to look into Gold Standard and give it a try to compare. But whey protein is a great way to get that extra protein a body needs when lifting weight.

Here is Cathe's post about Whey protein. :)

WOW AND OW...Love that Zozo!!!! :D

How perfect for you to have both STS programs ready to go. Happy New YOU!!!

Yes, protein shakes are perfect and I take them regularly. I like whey protein by Gold Standard. It's low in carbs and high in protein. I take it immediately after my workout and sometimes a couple of hours ahead of it too. They are cleaner if you don't clutter them with too many add ins. I take mine straight with water. On occasion with nonfat milk.

If you are starving then up your calories with clean food. IE: snacks can be a green apple with a tablespoon of peanut butter. Or a rice cake with nonfat yogurt and blueberries. Or even a protein shake with nonfat milk and a small handful of raspberries. Salads with lots of deep greens, and healthy veggies, or a nonfat string cheese dipped in balsamic vinegar with fresh sliced tomatoes (higher in sodium but if you sweat hard you can have it).

Meals will have a nice lean protein (ie: grilled lean white chicken breast), a nutrient dense green veggie (ie: steamed broccoli) , and a complex carb (ie: steamed brown rice) a healthy beverage of water, green tea, non fat milk...

Have a 5 small meals and a snack between every meal. You'll be eating about every 2.5 hours to keep your metabolism rev'd. So your food is burned up and digested before adding the next meal on. There is no food layover this way....and that means no hang over muffin tops either ;)

Good Luck...

So lots of you guys are supplementing? One minute I want to, the other I think I'll just eat lots of cottage cheese...but I don't eat meat on a regular basis and wonder if this extra protein would help me lose weight as well as help with muscle recovery?

Anyone drinking chocolate milk after their workout?

I've read in a couple publications that chocolate milk is a good recovery drink. I used it for a while but not enough to comment on results. I went to RiteAid yesterday to price Gold Standard and I think I'll try chocolate milk again. I know protein powders are expensive but not knowing how this one tastes I don't want to shell out a lot of money right now. Besides I could use the extra calcium the milk will give me:)
