Hi Cathe,

I am currently looking for the appropriate footwear for Step Aerobics and High Impact Cardio Workouts.

Please can you suggest or advice on any good brands that would suit. I am limited to certain brands and products as i live in the U.K. We unfortunately don't have brands like Ryka in Ireland.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Many thanks

Ann:)

Hi Ann,
Not Cathe here but I love New Balance; I believe those are sold in the UK. I use my NB cross trainers for step/hi-lo/kickboxing/running and they are very comfortable and durable!

HTH!!! :D

I love new balance as well. The higher the number the better the sneaker. I usually buy the 700's, but I recently got a 900 model for around $45. (american) online. You got to check deals online....amazon etc.

Hi Autumn 68 & meliffy18

Thanks for taking the time to get back to me, I've just only joined Cathe Nation and i've never being a part of any forum's before, so i was unsure of how this all works. Thank you both for your suggestions, i have actually being considering New Balance just this morning. Please can you give actual specfic brands/type. Thanks.

I am also considering Asics Gel 100TR X-Trainer, apparently it is good for cardio workouts. It may not have much cushioning in the forefoot, though, would that be essential for step aerobics.

P.S. Can any of you tell me how these forums work. There is nothing as big as this (Cathe Nation) fitnesswise in Ireland. America is soooo! advanced fitnesswise, not only with fitness dvd's but also with footwear.

Thanks again, Annie:D:D

Annie, is there an online site you're considering ordering from or does Ireland have good stores? I live in France and we have very little to choose from in the fitness arena as well.

Cathe ships her DVDs internationally pretty inexpensively but the equipment gets expensive to ship. And now you can also download her workouts!

Anyway, I'm in the process of looking for a new cross trainer as well. Do you have anyone in the States who can ship for you? I find it to be a good way to get things rather than shipping them from the actual distributor.

Good luck and welcome to the boards!

I absolutely love asics.

It would be great if you could find a website that asks about your arch, width, and type of workout you want the workout shoe for - cross training, running, etc.

Hi Angie & mabeanur,

Thanks also, for getting back to me. There are some online stores that i could get shoes from and unfortunately I know no one who could ship any shoes to me. I also absolutely love asics, I am wearing there Gel 140TR Cross Trainer at the moment, it would be a perfect shoe, only that it is quite high at the ankle and tends to rub, they are also quite heavy, so not the best for step aerobics. A local store near me, although they do not specialise in aerobic shoes, have suggested, either a Tennis Shoe or a Netball Shoe, I am actually going to opt for a netball shoe (Asics Netburner II). The gentleman was extremely helpful and patient, because at the moment i am looking for the perfect shoe for step and cardio. He seems to be a very trustworthy man, and he suggested the Netball Shoe, because it provides excellent lateral support and Netball movements are very similar to step aerobics. His advice seemed to make total sense to me. I know also that the Netball Shoe is for a completely different sport/activity, but i am willing to give this a go. I will let you know how i get on with it. Good luck Angie on finding a crosstrainer & it would be brilliant to have a website that asked for your arch & type of sport you needed it for.

Many thanks to you both for your input.

Hi Ann, I have the New Balance 855 Cross Trainers and have been very happy with them as a good all around training shoe. Also when I wear them out and about in "normal" life - i.e. not exercising - I have had several people compliment the way the look and ask me what they are. They are good for workouts and they look good too - so I am quite happy with them. HTH!

Hi Working ToBeFit,

Thank you for giving your opinion, the New Balance 855 sounds like a great shoe, i must have a look at it. Unfortunately i have opted for this Asics Netball Shoe and i will give it a go first. Hopely I will get on alright with it, I should have it by Christmas. Failing that, I will definently have a go at New Balance 855 and check if they have that variation over here (Ireland) , although i am a big fan of Asics.

Thanks for your input

Just received my new Asics Gel Netburner 11 shoes today. I will be trying them out tomorrow. So here's hoping they live up to all my expectations and the retailers also, I think he was more excited than me when they arrived.

He's looking forward to hearing my verdict on them.

Thanks again to everyone who made suggestions.

Many thanks

Appropriate footwear for step aerobics/cardio workouts

Tried my Asics Gel Netburner 11 trainers yesterday, unfortunately, not what i'm looking for. The sole was too firm and stiff when it came to doing side lunges from the step, and push-ups on the floor, so unfortunately I will have to return them.

I think the retailer will be more disappointed than me, as he has put a lot of time and effort into getting these in for me.

So back to square one and on the hunt for a good trainer/crosstrainer.

Any more suggestions from anyone would gratefully be appreciated.

I think i'm looking for a more versatile shoe/crosstrainer, one that is capable for step, cardio and all aerobic workouts and once again i am limited to certain brands due to living in the U.K. (Ireland).

Any help would be appreciated.
