Anyone watch "Dollhouse"?

Inspired by the "Monk" thread, I thought I'd see if anyone else watches this other soon-to-be-over show.

After watching last night's episodes, I realized that Eliza Dushku (whom I really like as an actress...or thought I did. Maybe it's just some kind of charisma she has, or a girl crush, LO!) is pretty much the weakest link in the show! Some of the other actors are so much better. (That guy who plays Victor is really versatile. Though Summer Glau seems to have an acting range that runs the gamut from A to C!)

I do watch Dollhouse but missed most of it yesterday. Is it being canceled? Dollhouse is like a Buffy alumni reunion, but I do like most of the actors so I was enjoying it. The premise is pretty creepy though.

I am a longtime Joss Whedon fan and will ALWAYS watch anything he has a hand in...Buffy, Angel, Firefly, Dollhouse, Dr. Horrible, they're all on my DVD shelf. It's a shame Dollhouse did not get the promotion or the time slot it deserved from Fox or attention from the viewing public. I think the concept of it is just too complex and disturbing for most people....they don't want to have to think that hard while watching tv or constantly question their moral compass while watching it as I find myself doing. I say that because most people get stuck on the "prostitution" aspect...well yes, there's that but there is SO MUCH more going on beneath that but it seems a lot of people just didn't couldn't get past it. I love Eliza but her costars have been beyond excellent and I hope they land new projects very soon. Joss seems to have a talent for discovering the best unknown actors around. And even though it will be ending on Jan. 22, I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of the episodes and I'll be buying the season 2 DVD the day it comes out. Maurissa, one of the show writers and SIL of Joss (and she appeared this week as the doll Kilo) twittered this morning that they will begin filming the last episode next week. I'm just grateful that they had enough notice to at least give us some closure (although we know from the "Epitaph One" episode on the season 1 DVD how this story ends ten years in the future) so I don't expect we'll be left hanging.

I love Dollhouse! I must admit when it started, I didn't think too much of it, then the plot started to develop! Of course, right at that time they started talking about cancelation. Joss Whedon's been getting that a lot lately - read, Firefly, another incredible series!

So what does everyone (well, the few of us who are fessing up to watching, LOL!) think about the last couple of weeks of shows?

To me, it's like reading a book with some chapters missing! I know Joss Whedon wanted to have some kind of satisfactory conclusion before the show went off the air, but I feel like some pieces are missing (planned shows that were scrapped?), like jumping from Echo going out into the world to her being with the ex-FBI guy (sorry, I forget his name, I'm too busy looking at him, ;)) for 3 months.

We still have two episodes to catch up on! We watch on hulu and my DH was in SF this past week, so we're spending the weekend updating ourselves on all our favorite tv shows and watching a few Christmas dvds as well!

I might have to end up getting this on DVD, because I missed the last 2-hour episode, and I am assuming they're not going to rerun these episodes again. I wonder if it'll be on syndication like Buffy & Angel.

Check it out on hulu.com! You can probably get the whole season if not at least the last few episodes!

I watched it from the beginning, but stopped mid-season because the plots were getting screwy AND because I'd heard rumors of cancellation.

I had no idea that Summer Glau is on the later episodes! I may have to see this on DVD when it ends!

And, I do have a girl crush on Eliza Dushku and Summer was the best thing about "Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles" or whatevertheheck it was called.

Another huge Joss fan here. I will watch anything Joss does, although this series hasn't quite hit the spot for me. Buffy and Angel are my all-time favorite series ever. I own them both and watch them in chronological order while I run on the treadmill! I just finished Angel, so it's time to watch Buffy again. It'll take me a year or so, and then I'll watch Angel again. I know, I'm kooky. Did you all know that season 8 of Buffy is being published in comic book form? It's so much fun!

Kathryn, I agree that the show seems to have gone into hyper speed now that they know it's ending. Things are happening really fast and once you barely get used to a new development, they move on to something else! The sexual tension with Ballard and Echo went from almost zero to off the charts in one episode! And then you know what happened after that.......

Another Josh fan here. I liked Buffy and Angel, but absolutely loved Firefly. I do like Dollhouse, but I thought it started off a bit weak. I feel like it was just starting to get it's feet under it and now of course it's canceled and gone into hyperspeed as already mentioned. Oh and those of you who may not have seen Firefly, you HAVE to see it.. :D

I'm like you! Firefly is No. 1 on my list of Joss Whedon shows, then Buffy! I don't think you're kooky! If I had them on dvd/digital, I'd do the same thing!

Yeah, that seemed almost gratuitous (because the development of their relationship seems to have been left on some cutting-room floor! I wonder if the DVD will have some 'missing' episodes?)

And I thought Summer Glau was going to be in more than just 2 episodes (I wasn't impressed).

I also was going WTF with the somewhat gratuitous "taking their shirts off" scene between Eliza and (the dude who played Wesley Windham-Price on Buffy and Angel) when they were taking the tracking devices out of each other's necks. (maybe they wanted to avoid blood stains on their clothes? but it didn't seem like a terribly bloody 'operation').

I think I've seen a couple of episodes (or parts of episodes), but I never got into it. I'll have to check it out, though, if it's anywhere near as good as Angel and Buffy.

Kelly: I've watched my Buffy and Angel DVD's twice already (as well as watching the shows AND reruns of the shows!). But the second time (last Christmas break), I watched them with the French audio track, which makes them all new again!

ETA: I just checked out Firefly on Amazon. If this was so good (and the reviews are numerous, and all 4 and--mostly---5 stars), why did it last only one season?

I'm going to guess poor promotion. I didn't even know it existed until well after it was canceled and off the air. I would have never seen it had someone not convinced me to watch the movie (Serenity) that came after it. For me I saw the movie before I actually watched the series. I suggest watching the series first.

Oh I forgot to mention the series wasn't even aired in order. If you look at the episode list on the DVD and the air dates you can see the network screwed with the order of episodes so that probably didn't help any either...

Kathryn, you should check out "Serenity", which is a movie based on Firefly. I had never heard of Firefly, saw Serenity and loved it, and subsequently got the Firefly episodes on DVD. Serenity wrapped everything up that were left hanging from the TV series.

Geesh, from this one thread, I now have "Firefly" (Serenity to follow!) and the 8th season of Buffy, volumes 2-4 in comic form (I had already picked up volume 1 a while ago, but forgot about it) coming to me from Amazon, LOL!

I have found that good quality programs that make you think always end up canceled. Don't know if any of you ever saw it, but I loved Space: Above and Beyond. The whole premise of the show was outstanding and intelligent - that's why that one got canceled.

Yes, I remember that one.
There were also (two years ago?) several sci-fi/thriller type shows that didn't make it through the season. It was diving me batty that almost every new show I started to watch and get interested in got the ax and never had a satisfactory conclusion.

I'm watching the series too, but I'm behind 2 episodes. I LOVE Joss Whedon stuff too!

I agree w/ you Kathryn on Eliza Dushku's acting range..slim to none. I would have liked to have seen another one of Joss's favorites, Charisma Carpenter ( aka Cordelia) play that role.

Victor is my favorite on the show... he does have a good range.
