Anyone read any good books lately?

Next up on my wish list is a book called "The Clothes On Their Backs" by Linda Grant and a book called "The Secret Scripture" by Sebastian Barry. Can't wait to have the time to read them!

Anything by Sophie Kinsella - "Can You Keep a Secret?" - I laughed out loud....the Shopaholic books are brilliant too! Fun, sit on the porch on a humid afternoon kind of thing!

I wish I could read for fun right now. I started back to college after being out for almost 10 years and now I'm reading all these school books. I got a notice in the mail about coming up on the wait list for Fabulous Fourteen by Janet Evanovich and Story Telling by Tori Spelling and had to tell the librarian to take me off the list since I have only time to read school books. I guess I'll have to wait until summer to read for pleasure again!!!

1. "Mommy Wars: Stay at Home Moms and Career Moms face off on their choices, their lives, their families."

It's a compilation of women talking about their choices to either stay home, have a career, work part-time, and work at home. It was an easy read and I couldn't put it down. Also, the best part, it was HILARIOUS. I laughed out loud many, many times. ;)

2. Sundays at Tiffany's

By James Patterson. Easy read. Not my favorite book by him, but I found it enjoyable.

3. The Best Life Diet by Bob Greene

Again, I found it enjoyable. I didn't read it to follow the diet, just wanted to get more info on nutrition and his thoughts (seen him on Oprah, liked him). His diet isn't "clean" 100%, per say, but it does have those qualities. I also liked how he talked about emotional eating and his idea that changes you make need to be small. It was an easy read as well.

... those are my suggestions! :p

Lisa- Not to get OT, but I love your avitar!! My boys 12 and 8 and I LOVE Tintin!!!!! we have been reading and re-reading the series for years!!!!!

I read every day!!!

Angels and Demons was great

Love Janet Evanovich, James Patterson, John Grisham, Catherine Coulter

Right now I am reading "Perfect Madness"- Motherhood in the Age of Anxiety.
It's about how moms today make themselves crazy over soooo many things that we are not actually helping our kids but hurting them. Like soccer practice and swimmming and planning the perfect 3 year old party etc. Instead of just letting them be kids. (I have a 7 and 4 yr old so it really relates to my life right now)

elliemom :):):)

I just finished a great book called Black Swan Green by David Mitchell. Fantastic read. Also good, Jhumpa Lahiri's new short story collection, Unaccustomed Earth.

I'm about to start The Third Angel by Alice Hoffman.

Deanie;

Thanks! I've always liked those comics, too. I guess it *kinda* fits in on the "good book" topic...sorry if I'm being an evil threadjacker.

Did you know that Peter Jackson (Lord of the Rings director) and Steven Spielberg are supposedly working on a Tintin movie? I don't know whether to feel excited or doomed. But I'm definitely curious!

The Boleyn Inheritance by Philippa Gregory.

I'm not-so-patiently waiting for The Other Boleyn Girl to become available at our library.

Has anyone read the Ladies #1 Detective Agency series? It's lovely.
Female detetive in Botswana - uses her instinct, grit humor and female savvy to solve mysteries.

She's wise and funny, it's a great look into Botswana heritage and life and being an entrepreneur. Very different type of book. Really good.

Feel good and interesting...

Thanks for starting this thread. Honestly, all the books I have read lately have been a waste of time. I just finished Rise and Shine by Anna Quindlen and it was not that great. Maybe I just need a break from reading for a little bit.

I'm reading "Promise Not to Tell" by Jennifer McMahon. It's part mystery part ghost story and it's hard to put down.

I will have to put this book on hold at my library...I love ghost stories
