Anyone looking for a good deal on dumbbells?

Thanks Liann. The reason I asked is because when I was ordering I wanted to see what the shipping would be before I completed the order, but they must not be able to do that. So I got an email from them for my order, but the whole thing was for 0.00?!? Then a few minutes ago I got an email from CS that they would ship on Monday. Shipping ended up being about $7.00 for me. Which is fine, thankfully, but I really wanted to know that ahead of time. Still a good price all together, so I'm happy!!:7

Liann,

Too bad I wanted such heavy weights. Thank you so much though. I'm sure if you don't go over a certain amount of weight that you could get a great deal on them. Just make sure when you do order that you look at the shipping/freight charges before you press the last button.

Thanks again Liann,

Janie

Janie - I bought 200 lbs worth of weights and had no shipping charges at all??? Yours wouldn't have even been that heavy. I wonder why shipping isn't coming out on some people's orders? I would contact them directly and order over the phone. Tax on mine was about $8 and shipping was $0.

Melissa - When you check-out with FW, one of the payment methods is BID. When you select that, they send you a quote that you have to approve before they will charge you. It's a good way to avoid a high shipping charge surprise. ;)

Liann,

I called the 1-800. The gal on the other end says, yes I would have been charged the $130.00 because it was so heavy. Instead of a shipping charge they would have charged me a freight charge. I hope you didn't get charged freight. Did you? If you didn't then I'm confused, since the 1-800 gal said I would have been charged that.

Janie - How heavy was your order? There was no freight charges on mine. I'm wondering if it was because your individual dumbbells were heavier than what I ordered even though my entire order may have weighed more?

I ordered 2 of each of these weights: 10, 15, 20, 25, & 30. I double checked the confirmation and it has "Freight: $0.00". I bet it is the 50 lb dumbbells that are the problem. She should have explained that better on the phone though.

I just looked at the free shipping terms online and it says that you get free shipping on anything that ships UPS. Anything else that has to go via truck etc... is not eligible. The dumbbells and barbell sets must be too heavy for UPS. Mine can be broken down into smaller weights, but those can't unfortunately.

Would any of the local sporting good stores Price Match?

Just thought I'd ask.

My only experience in trying to get a local store (not sporting goods, but sur la table) to price match amazon was that they said they would normally not be able to, but, in the end, they did. ??? So, it's worth a try......

Walmart is a little cheaper. I believe the twenty-five pound dumbbells are around 16 dollars each and the thirty-five pound dumbbells are 20 dollars each. (In-store).

I am also planning on purchasing platemates or pace weights. I just haven't decided which one to go with yet.

Catherine - I'm pretty sure it's that 50 lb dumbbell. I think 50 lbs may be too heavy for UPS. Even though my order was 200 lbs total, none of the individual weights weighed 50 lbs, so the order could be broken up into individual boxes and not be over 50 lbs each. That's my guess at least. I bet if you just order the pair of 35's, you will have no shipping issues.

My Wal-mart has those, but they are a little different I think. I don't think the Wal-mart ones have the ergo grip on the handles like these do and that's one of the things I liked. If I ever need a 50 lb dumbbell (my hats off to those of you who wanted to order one!) then I will probably try to get it at Wal-mart to save on shipping though.

Yeah, I think I caused a major run on dumbbells today! When I first started looking at them, everything said in stock. By the time I place my order, everything was delayed until the end of April! Luckily, I do not need any of them now anyways. I'm just hoping to work up to them with STS.

On a side note - You girls and your 50 lb dumbbells!!! I do not know if I could even pick one of those up! :) You go girl! I thought 30 lbs was impressive, lol. I'm a wimp!

It will definitely be a while before I use 2 50 pound dumbbells! I need to get some 30 and 35 pounders for STS, which I find extremely heavy (LOL)! My upper body is definitely smaller and weaker than my lower body. I usually match, if not exceed Cathe, in terms of lower body weights. Then again, I haven't had the opportunity to see what she is using for STS. I am sure that she will blow me away.

I just look forward to the challenge... maybe not the DOMS.

Have a great night and happy shopping for the dumbbells!

Thanks so much for posting this! I ordered a set of 25lbs and 30lbs (the 25lbs are on backorder until 4-30 so I have to wait for this order until then but that's fine since STS shouldn't be ready by then). I already purchased 2 sets of plate weights to go up in 2 1/2 lbs increments so now I will have 5, 8, 10, 12, 14 1/2 (I put these on my 12lb weights and it seemed to fit/work fine),15, 17 1/2, 20, 22 1/2, 25, 27 1/2, 30, 32 1/2 I may want a set of 35's and 40's, decisions, decisions......

Anyone know how long the free shipping is running? I don't recall the website saying. (please correct me if I just didn't see it)

Thanks again for helping me spend my $$$$!

Denise

Couldn't hold out! Just ordered a set of 35lbs. (may be back to order 40lbs and maybe 45lbs) Hubby said the ergo handle will make it much more comfortable to hold. :)

So looking forward to using these with STS!

BRING IT ON!

Denise

I'm glad I got these when I did. The sale is off now and the price has gone up .10 a lb. Now I just have to sit and wait for delivery which is going to take quite a while according to their estimate. Oh well... ;)
